Barcelona as a whole and Messi as well looked better when he was on the right and Suarez centrally. Messi saw loads of chances by cutting in - playing someone in the box who laid it off for Messi to shoot/continue.

When Messi's spark has gone and he loses that yard to take it past players or create space, Tonaldo will still be in the box shouldering someone off the ball or leaping above them to head it in.

When both of them eventually lose their pace and spark, its easier to see Leo playing the deep playmaker or a central midfielder role with his exceptional passing. Ronaldo will need his athleticism more to adjust forward and beat defenders.

Ronaldo is 6'2" and built like a shit house, he's not getting fat any time soon. He'll still be lithe and svelt hanging around a pool somewhere in speedos at the age of 60.

That's might make a nice visual in your head but it has nothing to do with what I said.

As for the rest of it, football isn't a high jump contest or a wrestling match. Messi is better at the footballing bits and hence, he doesn't need his "extra yard" as much. Heck he's as good a creative passed as you'll find in the game. He'd be top player if he just used that asPact of his game.

Messi is not only a goalscorer for Barcelona, but their most important playmaker as well. He's starting most of Barcelona's attacks, including most of the ones he himself end up finishing. Ronaldo on the other hand is another type of player, he's a ruthless finisher but he's not a playmaker.

It's much harder to keep up your goalscoring record (especially when you're getting older) when you're also the most important playmaker in the team.
Very true. Barca's midfield needs to step up really. Or messi needs to become a full time proper midifelder, which would be a waste of his abilities right now.

What happened to this chronic injury Ronaldo had that was supposed to have derailed his World Cup?

ok, i see your point
but i also think that if you find him an appropiate partner, he can score a lot more goals

how devastating a team with ronaldo and messi would be?
For Messi to score more goals, the partner he needs would be a quality midfielder. Messi and Ronaldo on the same team is definitely something to drool at, but Ronaldo will end up scoring more goals on that team, if they really want to score a lot of goals and win.

He comes across as a bit high maintenance with all this "love me bollocks" it's a shame because he doesn't need to do that. He's such a class player and the goal for his hat trick was fantastic.

What does this mean? Just curious as I have no idea.

There seems to be some story going round that he needs to feel loved. Seems like every time something occurs at Barcelona he's at the forefront of it and reports leak into the media that he wants to leave.

Got a good chance of hitting 100. Will be interesting to see if Ronaldo keeps up with him, or if Messi breaks away and gets a bit of distance.

I think Messi will end up streets ahead. Ronaldo only got close to him due to Messi's injury troubles and a freakish scoring season, he won't be scoring 17 a season in the competition.

To be fair, Ronaldo's showing no signs of slowing down right now. But even if he catches up, Messi's younger so will finish his career with more I expect.

Won me a feck ton of money tonight. Bet on him to score and to score a hat trick.

If he were to leave i'd sell half our squad to get him. Not very often the best player in the world becomes available to buy, and especially during what should be his peak years.

Mourinho and Messi together - a match made in heaven. Make it happen Roman.
He won't leave Madrid just yet, don't worry. ;)

Most hat-tricks in Champions League history:

Messi 5
Inzaghi 3
Luiz Adriano 3
Mario Gomez 3
