Totally agree but it takes these overly productive periods for people to take proper notice. It's far easier for people to read 19 games, 15 goals and 10 assists or whatever than to watch a player play 90 or 180mins a week and form an opinion based on what they see with their own two eyes.

Anyone who agrees that Messi was better than Ronaldo last season clearly suffer from delusion or just the most ridiculous ABU-ism.

I've always been of the opinion that Messi is a better footballer than Ronaldo. Last season Ronaldo had a better season.

Sums it up nicely.

Ronaldo had a freak season last year and whilst he'll put goals away for us, I think in terms of pure footballing ability, Messi is a class above.

Messi isn't and will never be the impact player Maradona was though, not perhaps because of "less" talent, but because football has changed since Maradona's day and Messi will forever be surrounded by a far stronger supporting cast than Maradona ever had, at least at club level. Let's see how Messi's international career pans out and then make the comparison though.

You're entitled to your opinion, just don't go around stating it as if it's a fact.

The FACT is Ronaldo was lightyears better than Messi last season.

It's my opinion that Ronaldo is the better footballer and Messi is just having a better season.

Likewise you are entitled to your opinion no matter how banal it is.

You talk about not stating facts, then you bring in the "FACT" that Ronaldo was "lightyears" better than Messi last season.

So you are of the opinion that Ronaldo is gunuinely a better footballer and is a bigger talent than Messi is?

Now, considering what Ronaldo won last season, all those goals he scored, all the personal accolades he won and how little Messi managed last season.

I think most of the World agree that Ronaldo was "lightyears" ahead of Messi last season.

I am of the opinion that Ronaldo is a BETTER FOOTBALLER, I never said he's more talented.

The best players are not always the most talented, need some examples?

The best player in the world, in terms of ability and consistency, is obviously Clinton Morrison. It's never even up for discussion frankly.

I think you're wrong Cal,Ronaldo did deservedly won all his trophies but he wasn't lightyears ahead of Messi. It's really about interpretation and it differs from a lot of people but if it wasn't for the trophies ,Messi would have won all the personnal awards. It's being part of United that helped Ronaldo

In only 2/3 months most people have realized that Messi is the real deal and have recognized what i've been saying all along.

You're right...

Thanks to you I have now seen the error in my ways and realise what a great player Messi is.

Feck off you egocentric little prick.

Let's see, Ronaldo scored 42 goals and won the 2 biggest trophies.

Messi scored 16 and takes Barca to 3rd place in a 2 horse La Liga race, finishing 10pts behind the giants of Villarreal and 18pts behind Real Madrid.

To compare them last season is just pointless.

Likewise I'm not going to argue Ronaldo's case this season unless he improves a lot.

Not at all Cal and that is true, the point about talent that is.

However your point about light years is way off. Were Manchester United lightyears ahead of any other team last year? I wouldn't say light years, they were ran close in the league and won the CL on pens. Now United picked up all the trophies and were/are the best team in europe based on these results. However to say they were light years ahead of their oposition is disrespectful and just rediculous.

Ronaldo had a great season, he was quite rightly awarded all the awards and acolades but he wasn't light years ahead of any other player in the world. He was arguably (or absolutely if that is your opinion) the best player in the best team in Europe. Which is a pretty good way to be regarded as the best player in the world. Messi when fit was not lightyears behind Ronaldo, unfortunately for him his team were going through transition and he suffered badly with injury.

Other players had exellent seasons and even Ronaldo himself wouldn't show such disrespect to fellow players like you do talking about him being "lightyears" better than any other player on the planet.

Did I say United was lightyears ahead of Chelsea last season? That would have been silly, we edged them out by the smallest of margins.

However, when comparing Ronaldo to Messi in 07-08:

Ronaldo scored 42 goals and won the Champions League (knocking out Messi/Barca on the way) and the Premiership.

Messi scored 16 and takes Barca to 3rd place in a 2 horse La Liga race, finishing 10pts behind the giants of Villarreal and 18pts behind Real Madrid.

What more justification do you need?

Just pointing out the truths, if i'm wrong i'll admit it, i don't really care that much.

You can call me a "egocentric little prick", others can call me "retarded", keep the insults coming if the fact i am right is so hard to take.

Indirectly you just agreed with me,if it wasn't for the trophies he won with the team (PL+CL) Ronaldo wouldn't have won any Ballon d'Or nor Fifa player of the year (yes despite being the top goalscorer in both competition). The difference was the trophies and the way Messi finished 2nd in both Ballon d'Or and FIFA award shows that the margin was not as big as you wanna believe it was.

You make it out like Ronaldo is the only reason United had a successful season and Messi is the reason Barca didn't. You make no sense, everyone knows how productive Ronaldo was. Messi played in an underperforming side an struggled for fitness yet still managed 16 goals and about as many assists.

Ronaldo couldn't stop scoring and United couldn't stop winning and ended the season with a double. Barca ended with nothing, sold Ronaldinho and sacked Frank Rijkaard. It's quite evident who had the better season.

No, the fact that Messi finished 2nd is just another indication of that big La Liga, Serie A bias Ronaldo had to overcome to win those awards.

The likes of Torres had a much better case.

Messi did little more last season than Ronaldo is doing this season, difference is, United are still top, Barca were useless last season.

To put the cat further among the pigeons, perhaps remember that Messi was injured for quite a time last season and the game against United was his first back if I remember correctly. I don't think we can deny that worked in our favour when we beat them by 1 goal over 2 legs.

Of course Ronaldo wasn't the "only" reason United had a great season, the likes of Rio played a very big role. But only an idiot will argue the fact that Ronaldo played a starring role for United last season.

Messi was poor (compared to Ronaldo) last season, he didn't score that many and his team finished 3rd in a 2 horse race.

As for the bolded part, thank you for finally agreeing with what I've been saying all along.

Frankly, if you had a choice between boning Messi or a really fit woman, would you go for Messi?

I am worried about you!

If you can be bothered to read posts from a few months back then you'll see what i'm talking about.

I don't mind having the same roundabouts arguments over and over, clearly.

Look, I've never denied the fact Messi is better (I've never endorsed it either), but what I take exception to is the high and mighty attitude of people like you.

What you also don't realize is that these award take into consideration( to a far lesser extent) the start of the 2008-2009 campaign.
I did try my best 4 months to be that biased towards Ronaldo but the truth is there to see.I can no longer deny Messi's superiority to Ronaldo

Ronaldo played 49 times last season, Messi played 40 times, hardly such a big difference.

WHat are you getting at?

I agree that Messi has been better than Ronaldo this season.

However, I do NOT agree he's a better player overall.

I apologize for the attitude, I have a bad habit of rising to peoples bate and acting like a bit of cnut. I just find it annoying when people berate people and then a few months down the line when opinions change or points have been made it bears no relevance. I guess that is the cafe, everyday you have to say the same things or argue the same points.

I don't mean to act high and mighty and honestly I’ll be the first person to admit I’m wrong.

The point was that he missed many games leading up to the game with us. Had he been fit, I believe the game could quite easily have had a different outcome - he's that much of a difference maker, a guy who can make something out of nothing. Ronaldo isn't that type of player.

Regarding this argument you and the other dude are having - he has a point. Messi is the more talented in my opinion - he reminds me of Maradona, the greatest footballer who ever lived. Ronaldo has his attributes and was as efficient as he could be last season, but he's not quite the player Messi is in my book.

Messi played 28 times in a league season where Barca managed to finish 3rd in a 2 horse race, 10 points behind those giants of Villarreal, I doubt he'd have made that much difference if he had a few more games before hand.

Anyway, no way we'd know...

Barca were a mess last year - that's well known. But you're right, we will never know. I seem to recall that losing him certainly had a negative effect though. I also seem to remember that at around that time Madrid found some form and took the initiative. It certainly wasn't a classic La Liga season, that's for sure.

Look at him this season though.

Messi looks like a rat, and is the size of a rodent, which clearly counts against him. No one likes a rodent.

Saying that, Ronaldo wears pink, is greasy and clearly a bender, which is just as bad.

That's why Rio Ferdinand is the best footballer in the world. But, then again, he's a wannabe gangsta....

Madrid walked it last season winning it with 4 or 5 games to spare.

Anyway, I've already said many times that Messi is having a great season, yet some people just want to jump to the conclusion that he's on par with Maradona or whatever...
