Best player in the world at this moment in time, and Barca are definately one to avoid before the final if of course we get that far, or even have 11 fit players to play in the final !!
 
The defending today was much better. And more teams should adopt Numancia's approach, they made a fight of it but after an hour the class showed which is fair enough. Better than conceding 5 within the first hour.
But Barca are class, almost all their players seem to be on the top of their game.
 
His goalscoring is phenomenal this season I think the game that reflects this is where it was him and Eto'o vs the defence and he could've played it through to Eto'o but instead went all the way and scored. Seems like he's hungry for more goals and that he probably feels he'll get even more recognition with the goals which would put stats etc in his favour if anyone mentioned them but even goalscoring hasn't taken away from his overall play. At times you can't really ask for a player to play any better.
 
He's been something else this season. My schoolmate is Barcelona's fans and he randomly describes most of their goals to me after weekends, it's been indeed a very busy year for him.

The only word to describe it is 'impudent'. But brilliantly so. Alves heads the ball across the box, most players would give it a good whack on the volley. Many would have missed given how quickly the keeper managed to close the ball down. But no such pissing about for Messi, he gives it the slightest of touches to redirect it in the opposite corner, keeper no chance. Brilliant

He wasn't even particularly at it tonight, and he still scored and ran the show

If we play em in the Champions League, I reckon Vidic might have to do a job on him early!

Exactly; unfortunately, there are still spackers that consider goals to be determining factor of any footballer's talent. Regardless of his goals, he is far and away the best player around at the moment.
 
We could use him on the left then?

If we all put a fiver in the kitty we could launch atleast a 15quid bid.
 
Messi this season could be even more impressive than Ronaldo of last season.

Perhaps. But lets be honest, we faced a completely different Barcelona side last season - one with low confidence and no cutting edge.

They are the opposite this season. The absolute opposite.

And while we were a freescoring side with great interchange in our front players, we arent this season. We still have a mighty defence though.

But despite that, if we play Barcelona this season it'll be a completely different game to last season as the sides are two different animals.

Barcelona are nailed on for a double already with a big lead in the league and no other side putting up any kind of decent challenge, and they are bound to win the kings cup too even with their backup players rotated in. So that leaves the champions league.

Its a bold statement obviously and thats why I want to get it out there before anyone else :lol:

But in my opinion they are certs for the two domestic competitions already. The champions league will be a lot tougher for them but they have been the most irresistable side in europe this season so theres no good reason why they cant win that too. Especially as they can concentrate on that competition without much chance of messing up in the other two - such is their superiority over anyone and everyone in their league,.

that's the logical response.

but football, esp. CL football, is a different beast.

in the CL latter stages, the top teams can beat any other top team on its day, and the more experienced the team is at winning the CL, the more dangerous they are. we were absolutely flying in 06/07, while Milan were not, yet they gave their all in two games against us, and that's all she wrote.

in 94, Barca were absolute favourites against Milan, yet we know what happened.

unlike a league campaign, all you have to be in the CL is good over two nights, or at least just the one night.
