If you could combine him with Tevez, then maybe he could become as good as Maradona. Nah, not even then. Anyway, he's not at Fat Ronaldo's level pre 98, yet. Nevermind talk of the greatest player to grace this earth.

Why? What does Tevez have that Messi doesn't?

Messi from 2004-2008...Goofy Ronaldo 95-97..goal for goal or the style they can dominate over an opposition effortlessly both are comparable to a large extent, except Messi being nowhere a great finisher like Goofy and many a time some great dribbling run ending up crashing on the crossbar, but overall he can influence a match more than Ronaldo.

Ronaldo had already won the world player of the year twice and a Ballon D'or then, whilst Messi missed them out both after running close twice mainly because of his injuries. Nevertheless, in his current and his only injury free season so far of his career, his scoring rate is on par with Goofy's 96-97 at Barca, but whether he would sustain it at the end of this season, remains to be seen. Right now Messi comes closer to Goofy Ronaldo at Inter still not there yet and may be one more injury free season followed by a great world cup should eventually take him there.

I don't understand the arguments against Messi's talent. I wasn't around to see Pele or Maradona regularly. And neither highlight films nor the random recorded match here or there will ever give me a grasp of how great they were or weren't. But as Brad mentioned earlier, Messi skates through defenses for fun. Scores spectacular individual goals for fun. Creates goals for teammates for fun. What more does he need to do other than keep doing it? His right foot is by no means a weakness. And considering the ease with which he can manipulate defenders even in tight spaces in the box, what does it matter?

Well I didn't mean that his right foot is a weakness or a pb (if you were talking about me anyway)

Wasn't aimed at you. Was basically the only part of his game I could think of which could possibly significantly improve. Was basically addressing all those who would call me or anyone else fanboys or presumptious for our perceptions of Messi's talent/potential.

If a poster is eligible to comment about a player only after following them live for every other season, then hardly any of us can talk about former footballers or footballers who havent played for us.

As for either Pele or Maradona, the stats and the footages, interviews from players who have played with them is always there for taking, its easy to guage how good they really were. Ten seconds in that clip, it was apparent Messi was nowhere a player like Maradona at the same age, it was almost similar to comparing Fat Ronaldo before 98 with our Ronaldo.

Messi's right foot is a weakness, not because it appears blatant at times he as tied down for his inability to make use of it. Like against Getafe last season, Laudrup organized a defensive line that made Messi not able to cut inside but drag him to the byeline everytime he moved upfield. With Henry lurking near the far post Messi was unable to pump in his crosses as they forced him to cross with his right foot and its gets clearcut in matches when his team mates dosent play well. Young Maradona has consistently blown away similar and more rougher tactics effortlessly that was used again even in highly physical matches albeit he hardly used his right foot.

Only a sample here though. Freekicks, crossing, beating players, gliding with the ball, creative passing, arrogance to endure punishments, Maradona was at some level at the same age, except the media werent big those days to glorify his every other movement. Messi at the moment no where near that level, although the media and Messi fanboys would prattle out a comparison every other week.Talent aside Messi to me appears more like a busy little player compared to the genius and arrogance of Maradona.

Messi is ridiculously strong on the ball; it doesn't make sense. I remember watching that Brazil-Argentina game during the Olympics, only to be amazed at the fact that not even Anderson could push him off the ball.
Being strong on the ball isn't really connected with being physically strong. Maradona for example was strong on the ball, but he was capable of physically blowing away most people. Messi in comparison is a feather weight. If he had Rooney or Tevez's physical prowess he'd be twice as devastating.

Spot on.

You can compare, what messi is doing right now in this season is comparable to anything really. You can deride him for his apparent lack of physical strengh or weak right foot but the beauty of football is that you can have flaws and weakness and it wont take anything away from you. Baggio was a light weight but it didn't stop his influence. Maradona had a right foot for standing on and nothing more yet when you have a left as good as his, or even a left as good as Messi has then you don't need a right foot for more than standing. Obviously it would improve a player to work on his weaker side but i'd take a special left or right over a good left and right any day.

Like the legend maradona he is physically small, he wont be winning many headers but in football the most important thing for an attacking player is what you do when you have the ball at your feat. When Messi has the ball at his feet he is simply brilliant.

His understanding with Daniel Alves is out of this world, I have in mind the first goal he scored against Athletico (of his hat trick) in the Copa Del Rey or maybe that fantastic pass in the CL.
