The only thing that might stop him of winning it over the next 4-6 years is a serious injury IMO.

Remind we when this was??

I believe he won it in that same year, did he not. It will take a really, really serious injury to stop him. As far as Fergus'son goes, I am not so sure at 8 Ballon D'Ors. He is a great player, but people will get bored sooner or later and this has been reflected in the percentages. If he does win 8, then great, if not, he will have done enough to earn a status of some kind.

Does he play in an anglo-saxon environment? Do his parents live in an anglo-saxon environment? Does he ply his trade in Spain? Unless he is going to to play in an anglo-saxon environment later on, or work as a business man when he retires, I see no reason as to why he should learn English. He is happy with Spanish so, if it isn't broken then there is no need to fix it.

It could only improve his marketing power is all I'm saying. It's not that there is something broken, it's about improving things even more.

what the heck happened there? What year was that?

Why should he want to improve things though? Over the last few years, he has proved that he doesn't need the money. He has all the money in the world, he has the success, and he is a humble person so, why would he want to be greedy? It makes a change to see a humble footballer in the Scholes mould.

It's not necessarily about getting greedy.Learning another has other benefits than just money.Think of possible international charity (UN ambassador or something honorable like that). He has a great image worldwide, improving it wouldn't a bad thing

Well a serious injury would be a broken leg or a cruciate rupture, essentially something that puts him out for at least half a season.

Messi though has shown that he is extremely resilient when it comes to injuries.

It's true we'll never know and the same would have applied had Messi suffered debilitating injuries before he reached his prime. Ronaldo was better at age 20/21 than Messi was at the same age. But they are nowhere near the same type of player and near impossible to directly compare for various reasons.

At age 20 Ronaldo dominated Spain then at age 21 he scored 25 goals in the uber-defensive Serie A when it was by far the best league in the world. He also was quite good in setting up teammates especially for an out-and-out striker. Then it went downhill with the injuries. Had Ronaldo remained in Spain there's no doubt he would have went on top his 34 goal haul over the following seasons without injury interrupting. He would have been a routine 30+ goal scorer in Serie A setting records galore.

"...Sir Alex Ferguson made a formal enquiry for the Brazilian in the summer of 1996, as a back-up option for the proposed purchase of Alan Shearer from Blackburn Rovers. Ferguson, though, was put off by Ronaldo’s proposed £50,000 wages..."

I can't begin to imagine what he would have achieved playing for United in the late 90s into the mid-2000s. What could have been.

As much as you claim to know him like a best mate, using your Chales Xavier powers, he probably would be better off learning English given how much exposure he gets. Like many foreign players and managers, he probably is aware of that and will do it soon or maybe is already. He's only young.

Look at Pep for example, avb or Pele. And hasn't Ronaldo just taken up a job in England with some top marketing company. He could well do with sorting his English too!

He's just incredible. It's an honour to watch him play.

...and, as a British person, I have no money. That should be obvious, Mr marcos. :D

I agree, this is my favourite ever clip of the boy.

ho ho ho, there's something sick in me that absolutely adores seeing the best footballer in the World for once being made a fool of, some of his own medicine if you will. We're a sick race us human beings, well I am!

What a pass! Like Anderson's, but even tighter and perfectly weighted. Too bad it was wasted by Alexis.

Yeah, that's a peach of a pass...who is that missing the chance? It kind of looks like Sanchez, but its tough to tell

It reminds me of some of those clips in the Laudrup pass comp that was posted on here a few days ago. I actually got frustrated watching the number of chances that were created with beautiful passes by Laudrup and then subsequently spoiled by horrible finishes

it was sanchez

Easy to say, especially when you overlook the fact that he loves to cut to his left for the majority of his goals and the defender runs the risk having him skip past him if he overcommits to his right

He doesn't need to overcommit to his right though. Just don't stand back and say "right, shoot. I dare you...".

Everyone stood still, including Kameni, which is what happens when Leo runs at you in space with pace. You commit to one side or another and he will glide the other way so you play the percentages if you have no help and are on your back foot - 99/100, Leo glides left.

I know it doesn't seem like it but there were teammates to pass to, as well. Even goal shy Sanchez

The comical part of that defending was also before he was in the box, the dope seems to trip over his own legs with Messi right behind him!

The defender right outside the box has the ball but then randomly decides to just give it to Messi?! Very strange behaviour for a footballer, he could be on the take.

?? He had a miscontrol and Messi stole the ball away, like he does often.
