Lionel Messi

I reckon it must eat at Messi though, to be remembered like Maradona he simply must do something special with his national team. Best player in the World for sure but I feel he'll have regrets regarding his international career so far.

cal it's obviously not just a thread for praise, but I think the fact you only ever criticize and nit pick a 4 time ballon d'or winner and all time great is why you get slagged rotten.

This thread is not called "Worship Lionel Messi" or "Messi - Praise Only" or words to that effect. Are we not allow to criticize him ever? Are we only allowed to say nice things about him in this thread?

You're getting this totally wrong.. People don't want you to stop posting here.. As a matter of fact people are enjoying it, and they keep calling for you when you stop posting..

On the other hand, you can't tell (very) funny jokes and then ask the people not to laugh..

Feel free to disagree, as if I care what you lot think...

I just hate getting blamed for you lot dragging you-know-who into this thread time and again.

The title of that article is so inherently stupid that I can't be bothered to read it.

Messi will win the World Cup next year, almost single handedly, then everyone will just have to accept that he is the greatest ever.

We'll see about that... :smirk:

I don't think he'll win it to be honest.. I don't feel Argentina have it in them as a team to do it..

But Cal? he actually really is the 'bestest' player in the world. It's not all a big lie.

I've always found Messi irritating and liked Ronaldo (I know, it doesn't exactly add up as one is supposedly humble and the other an egomaniac) but I think it's clear as day that Messi is the better player. The statistics speak for themselves.

If Messi lost a leg now, he's already done enough to be regarded as the most talented player to play the game.

McNulty's not the most incisive blogger around. Lowe's piece in the Guardian was a lot better.

I think he's gonna need the likes of Aguero and Tevez contributing as well. And the back three/four/five (whatever formation they utilize) cannot leak goals. I see them exiting at the QFs in all likelihood, whether justly or not. It really depends on the group draw and how the format is setup for the knockout stage. They could luck out i.e. Italy in 2006 and get a very favorable road to the semis.

I'm fully expecting Brazil to suddenly show up on home soil, along with Spain and perhaps Germany or darkhorse Belgium perhaps. And perhaps an African nation finally makes the semis.

I cant see Argentina winning the WC, overall the team isn't good enough IMO.

If they want to win anything they need to get him as far away from the squad as possible. His history at both Manchester clubs gives plenty of evidence as to how cancerous that odious twat is. What's more, his importance to Argentina is far far lower when compared to City for them to give a shit about him, to the point that you can even argue Argentina have 3 better players than him in his position.

I know you cannot see this post but I will respond to it this way. I think the way Messi is playing at the moment, anything is possible, and he has done relatively well over the last 12 months for Argentina. However, their goalkeeper and defensive unit leaves a great deal to be desired. For Argentina to win the World Cup, they will definitely have to score more goals than ever, because they will be going up against some decent teams and they will be found out at one moment or another.

I think Tevez' tenure with the current Los Albicelestes is over. No one to blame but himself

He's been extremely successful throughout his career, he might be a twat but it doesn't seem to do much harm to his teams.

Shouldn't Messi learn to speak English to even better promote himself ?

Does he play in an anglo-saxon environment? Do his parents live in an anglo-saxon environment? Does he ply his trade in Spain? Unless he is going to to play in an anglo-saxon environment later on, or work as a business man when he retires, I see no reason as to why he should learn English. He is happy with Spanish so, if it isn't broken then there is no need to fix it.

A nice gesture from Ronaldo last night too, after such an injury. Both nice guys off the pitch it seems and it is great to see, after what is going on in the footballing world of wags, alcohol and parties. Well done guys!!

Yeah to be honest they both seem really humble of the pitch, in documentaries etc you see them helping out charities, their families and what not. You would expect them to be the most stuck up people ever but they don't act in that manner. It is nice to see.

That is a really nice vid, the ending is great with him getting the award it feels like hes an old man and we are looking back on his career. I wonder what his highlights will be like when he does actually turn into an old man and we are looking back on his career.

Same type of video as that Sun one of Rooney.
