I thought i'd get bored watching that vid, but his goals are of such high quality.. his chipping is unreal, some good headed goals in there and the set pieces are top notch too. Only thing missing is a fair amount of right footers, if he fine tunes that.. 100+ for 2013.

His next chase. Dixie Dean holds the record for 60 league goals.

Give him the Ballon D'Or already.

At the beginning of the season, I thought Ronaldo deserved it, due to his goals/assist + big game performances in La Liga. But he's just been good this season, while Messi has been dazzling. With little support from the rest of his attacking cast. Great player. Best I've ever seen, definitely.

Messi signs an autograph for a fan during a friendly

Messi shakes hands with a pitch invader during the Germany game, then laughs about it

And this, because it can never be seen too many times.

Hold on, annual clean-up of Cal's inability to keep his Ronaldo warped obsession from threads with the word 'Messi' in them.

That's why Barcelona don't shoot very often outside the box.

That's more an issue of lower percentage, lower yield although the team has scored a higher percentage (And number) of goals outside the box so far this season: This season, 17 of their 80 goals (21.25%) and last season, 15/190 (7.9%)

It does, however, illustrate his preference to score from the left half. I suppose that's one possible defensive tactic, shepherd him to his right - if you can

Speaking of frequent posters in this thread. The biggest Messi talker has been missing from the caf for 5 months now. Anyone got a clue?

Can't see this mentioned anywhere, and to be fair I have my doubts over whether it's true or not, but apparently a Russian club made a £205m offer for him.

Like I say, I think it's probably bullshit (there's a few other sources with the story if you do a Google search for it), but thought it worth mentioning.

It originally came from a Spanish source, AS I think. Not only that, they offered a staggering 30 million net per year. Glad to see there is sense that success means more than money. Good man for turning it down.

Edit: A Salopian red...

thats bullshit, why the feck would anyone give that much for anyone? even if it is messi who, come on, isnt worth anywhere near that much because no one ever should be worth that much.

I heard that today is sort of April Fools day for the Spanish press. There will be loads of rubbish stories in football today.

You make me sound like a wine.

Who is talking about today when it was reported yesterday? All they have done is trigger the 250 million clause. The fact that he decided to stay with Barcelona on less money speaks volumes about the man himself.

A quick google search revealed that for some its the 27th and others 28th although usually pranks are on the 28th. Nothing else in the news from Spain so why wait? They print bull shit anyways.

Not really!! Seems a pretty sensible decision to me.

Stay in Barclona where I'm settled and will challenge for 3-4 trophies a year and continue to earn an outrageous amount of money or sign for some rich, Russian club where the amount of money I earn will be even more ridiculous but won't make a difference to my lifestyle. However, the standard of football will be much lower and I won't be challenging for any trophies besides a domestic title and cup that no one gives a shit about.

And that only applies if it is actually true

This was my Messi moment of 2012.

5 minutes to go against his countries most bitter rivals, the score is 3-3 and Messi is on a hat trick.............

Yeah the thing about that goal is the context, which you've highlighted, makes it the goal it is.

Otherwise, it's a fairly typical Messi dribble and finish into the corner of the net - I mean, he scores that kind of goal on a monthly basis doesn't he?
