this is a thread about messi, every time he beats a record we say "wow" he did this or that", and every time comes a non fanboi, a perfectly normal fan, to say "yes, but he did it on hormones" "pele did it in a mine field" or "maradona did it with his unborn and unrecogniced kids" or "ronaldo didnt do it because he can't be arsed"

yet we are the fanbois

Pretty much what fanbois do. I don't think any United player has that kind of response here and it's a United forum.

You get a pass though because you are Argentinian.

because i'm a fanboy, obviously

i'm laughing at the ones that argue that messi will never be as good as maradona and pele because they played in a different era, then, if that's right, why argue?
I don't think there's anyone on here that thinks that. Maybe a couple of newbies and a couple of weirdos like Cal?, but the majority of people are just making simple points so that people aren't misled. It is important to point out that in Maradona's first four seasons at Napoli the title winners scored 42, 41, 43 and 41 respectively. In his first season Maradona scored just 14 league goals which is something Messi has bettered for the last 6 seasons in a row but that was 44% of Napoli's total. Messi last season scored 50 league goals which was 44% of Barcelona's total. Worth noting Maradona did this after scoring 5 goals in 7 games in the World Cup.

Pointing that out doesn't mean I think Maradona's an equally good goalscorer, it just means that the difference of 36 goals isn't as huge as it seems. Yet if someone points this out you take it as an attack on Messi or an attempt to downgrade him but everyone here recognises him as a sensational footballer and one of the greats of the game.

It isn't, it's someone who gets on the defensive about him when there's hardly anything to get defensive about.

The other day I said RM should be commended for winning La Liga last year, breaking so many records in the process. The response? 'Well Barcelona and Messi are going to break even more records this year'. It's almost like 'my dads bigger than your dad' argument, every single time.

Thanks, I forgot about that post...;)

well, to be fair, that was a pretty stupid response

even though we all know that my dad is bigger that yours

That actual post was from me marcos. I was simply pointing out a fact that the way Barcelona are playing, they could break the record that was it.

as i said, i must be a fanboi

if someone says that maradonas acomplishments were better than messi, don't reply, don't be a fanboi, just take it as it comes

because, last time i check, this wasnt a football forun to argue about football

my mistake

That actual post was from me marcos. I was simply pointing out a fact that the way Barcelona are playing, they could break the record that was it.

And also pointing out 'excuses' for Barcelona not winning it, despite them never reaching a 100 point total before.

Like I said, you can't praise or even discuss RM and Ronaldo without the usual suspects wading in with some facts about how Barelona and Messi are so superior to them. It's tiresome.

from what? all i'm doing is defending myself from posters that when they run out of arguments, call me a "fanboy"

I think it is best if we all take a break to be honest. If you get on the defensive, then you are seen to be a fanboy, but if you don't get on the defensive, then it gives you the impression that you don't care. You cannot win in this situation. Yes, I am guilty of being a fan of Messi, and I have all of his stats ever since he was playing for the juveniles. Having good solid facts and statistics tell the story of a young player who was simply destined to be a great footballer. As I mentioned earlier, great players try to dig their team out of the mire and Messi did just that all on his own with a support cast that were only just out of La Masia most of the time. Villa was injured for half the season, Xavi and Iniesta were not playing at their best. Someone had to take up that responsibility and he did.

At the end of last season, I was the first to question as to whether he has the hunger and the ability to try and beat last seasons total. To be honest, why should he try to beat it, he did everything and more and they still came second so, what is the point. The way he started this season was sluggish to say the least and I thought there was no way he is even going to attempt last seasons total. How wrong I was, and to see that he still has the desire and the ability to want to score, to help the team, which is another positive about him. So far, he has 25 goals in 16 league games, and is halfway to beating his record with another 22 games to go. He has scored 34 goals this season so far, which puts him 39 behind his record of 73 for the season. At most, there are about 30+ games left in la liga and the Champions League. He has a great chance of pushing the bar even higher.

I have never liked Real Madrid and I am not going to like them because Ronaldo started playing for them. Not to please you or other fans of Ronaldo. If you need a friend by the way, you can give Cal a call if you wish...;)

Did I ask you to like them? Just admit that you can't have a rational and objective conversation about RM/Ronaldo/Messi/Mourinho/Barcelona and my point will be made.

Genuinely wasn't aimed at you, genuinely. The only thing I cam say about you is that you often entertain silly posts by posting silly things yourself. In general you are more tha capable of having a good discussion with regarding Messi Rm etc.

Don't think I need to point out some of the more obvious culprits!

Did I ask you to like them?

I have said it once before and I'll say it again, they did really well last season getting the 100 point mark etc. It was truly an exceptional feat, and we must applaud that. You didn't, but if you want me to type about Real Madrid in a positive light, then you'll find that I cannot do that because I don't like them.

the fact is, this is a thread about messi, were posters come to tell other posters that are messi's fanbois

how stupid that sounds?

How nice, you have a new friend!

Since it isn't relevant to the thread, I also invite you to pm me if you have a problem. Don't forget to wind your neck in, you have already been banned from the mains once 2 weeks after promotion. So, you need to cool it.

Back on-topic. Can you give me any negatives about both Messi. It would be great, then perhaps we can have a discussion about his negatives i.e. his lack of height and aerial ability.

Well that's all I said, that it was exceptional. Yet you thought some facts and figures about Barcelona was needed in response to me saying that, for some reason.

That illustrates my point.

Well, you will very rarely find me in the Ronaldo thread. I have nothing to say. He is a great player, he was a great player for us, but the moment he wanted to leave for either Barcelona or Real Madrid, was the day I completely forgot.

Wind my neck in? Please point in the direction of any insulting post or whatever you're referring to?

I don't think I want to carry on any discussion with you as you are very keen to bait me into getting banned again. First you accuse me of having no courtesy when there was no evidence of it and now you tell me to wind my neck in when the conversation is perfectly civilised.

indeed, we never go there to insult the posters that support him

it's all part of the argument, what it's never part of the argument is insulting the other poster

There are ways and means of having an argument. I can have an argument with my colleagues at work and we still laugh during the argument. However, I get the impression that I am in a pub, having an argument and any moment there is going to be a glass in my face...

A Messi thread isn't solely for praise for Messi is it? Just like the Ronaldo thread isn't solely for praise either?

Maybe you should make a 'praise for Messi' thread.

a messi thread is to discuss messi, not to insult the ones that think he is good

That's all I see happening to be fair, people discussing Messi, bar the odd lunatic.

Is fanboi much of an insult? I'm not sure. I'm a fanboi of Man Utd.

We are of dying breed, mate. You can't be Man Utd fanboi as long as they aren't the greatest team of all, don't have a player who scores 234 goals a season etc.

I am a Manchester United fan boy to be honest. Born and bred red though raised in the blue-half of Manchester but fought hard to resist my dads insistance of supporting the blues.

Edit:

Ok, I am a Manchester United, Lionel Messi, Yuen Biao, Yuen Wah, Anita Mui, Iron Maiden and Higuain fanboi...now that I got that off my chest, back to normal I guess.

Now you're just raising your tail end towards Marcos like a naughty kitty cat.
