Look at it however you want it Cal?(trophies won, penalties missed), Messi is a better player than Ronaldo as he has been for the last 4 years. It's the undeniable truth

I read somewhere Messi this season alone has scored more goals than Heskey "An England International Striker" in his whole career.

Is this true?:lol::wenger:

Messi is the only reason Barcelona went past Milan in the first place.

Nesta said:
With respect to the other great Barcelona players, I think Messi did at least 70% of the work tonight," said the former Italian international. "Whenever they struggled to make their possession tell, he made one of his runs, making it so difficult for us because he does it so many times during a game."

4 years, how convenient is that? Pick the start of the Barca domination as the start...

Anyway, before I get blamed again for dragging you-know-who into this thread, I'll leave you guys to your Messi wank*est.

One penalty miss directly resulted in elimination, the other one played a part but Madrid would probably have lost anyway with Kaka & Ramos missing too. Spot the difference.

Anyway, I just want to point out how ludicrous some of the people on this very thread sound creaming themselves over Messi's scoring record this season.

Exactly 12 months ago, I was repeatedly told scoring multiple goals against the lesser lights of La Liga meant feck all once the title has gone, funny how 12 months changes everything? Now scoring 7 goals after Madrid has sealed the title is some kind of miracle?

yes, messi missing the penalty that would have put them in the final game is worse than ronaldo missing the penalty that would have put them in the final game

you should know that when mourinho decides who will shoot -as most coaches- he puts his best shooters first and last, so the other shooters wont feel that much preasure

but there goes ronaldo and misses

and messi is scoring shitloads of goals after real madrid won la liga? real madrid won it this wednesday, so i don't know what you are talking about

and of the 72 goals messi scored this season, 16 (all time record) were in the champions league

Start of Barca domination? Messi will be 25 this June, he was 21 at the beginning of the past four years, obviously we're going to pick that era.

This thread has gone completely retarded again. The third goal from last night:

Edit: I see you've already done the honours, Homeomorphic. :D Cracking goal.

Mess is part of Barca :wenger:, it's not as if he should feel lucky to play for them. He's a key component of their last success in these last few years.
I can stoop to your stupid level of logic if you want, R.Madrid will have accomplished a better general season than Barca and yet Messi still manages to outclass and out perform you-know-who

:nono: Messi missed one that would put them in the final. Ronaldo had his saved that would have put them ahead in a shootout, but based on the fact that Kaka & Ramos missed soon after, they'd likely have gone out anyway.

If he scored, maybe the rest of the players would have been more confident with their own penaltys. Considering he was the first taker and all, always good to get off to the best possible start but no, he missed.

that's not true, you conveniently forget that bayern missed two penalties too

so even if we disregard the fact that ronaldo missing the first penalty had a huge impact in torres and kaka mental state, they would have been tied in penalties scored

it's not the first time you "conveniently" forget things :smirk:

Insane first touch.

And that praise coming from someone like Nesta means a lot more than anything we humble posters could ever say about the matter.

I really enjoyed their battle over the 4 games, it was great to watch. I'd say they were pretty even most of the time, but some of Messi's runs and assists in those games were unreal. Still remember that karate kick from Nesta and how he just accepted the yellow  Class both of them.

Good god, that penalty miss was what cost them a place in the final? So it wasnt the glaring chances missed at Stamford Bridge? The abysmal defending at both Chelsea goals? The lack of any cutting edge from his team mates? It was just his penalty that put them out?

As someone else said, the first penalty in a shootout is a big one. Ronaldo blew it, but you wont criticise him? I'm sure he missed against Bilbao the other night too.

Please do explain why Messi scoring a load after Madrid have won the title this season is somehow so impressive compared to Ronaldo doing the same after Barca have won the title last season, which apparently "means feck-all".

You do know he had 63 goals before the first Chelsea game?

Scoring wise, and creatively, he's been the seasons stand out player again.

Insane acceleration.

I think the touch is even more impressive, personally...He fooled Victor Sanchez, who happens to be another La Masia product, with that touch instead of trying to settle first and then make his run...I love that disguised run of his, has to really deflate a defender

Well, it'd have been tied after five penalties if Ronaldo hadn't bottled it and perhaps even better seeing as it'd have put less pressure on Real players and more on Bayern's. Also, Barcelona had thirty more minutes to make up for it, they didn't and take blame as a team. It wasn't a stoppage time penalty.

You expect your best player to score a penalty in the shoot-out, Ronaldo hasn't done that in two of the most important games he's played in. Also, Barcelona penalty in 2008 which he missed under pressure. He really isn't good at it.

58 appearances 72 goals 28 assists

100 goals he's played a part in. Minimum.

I think brosstan is laughing at the guys suggestion above, basically saying abidal and villa were the reasons chelsea beat barcelona.

I dont think Abidal would of done much to stop chelsea, but villa certainly would of.

Abidal is a big miss to them, he was their best defender.

Aye, helped to balance the defence given Alves' propensity to operate as a winger. No doubt part of the reason why Guardiola experimented with a back three, to mixed results.

I don't think they would've conceded that Ramires goal right before HT, came from Abidal's side.

 this Cal? chap is funny. The killer is that its not even like Cristina is reciprocating this unconditional love and support through these tough Messi years. Or is he?

Weirdly while Messi's stats are amazing this season I still don't think this has been his best season.
