Quite the opposite, Messi v Ronaldo is still a favorite debate on the caf
Performance wise about the same, but comparing the quality of team-mates, Ronaldo has done better so far.
Messi was motm in two games already. Ronaldo was rotten in his first and out shone by the little left back in his second.
Messi doesnt need to score to be motm, Ronaldo does.
It's not even a debate anymore cal, you should just retire.
To be fair, this thread should just retire .
He doesn't need goals to be doing his job. For my money he has done his job superbly. He is the decoy for other attacking talents in the team to shine. No one can honestly say it hasn't worked superbly for the Argies.
I dont get this 'vintage Messi' talk. Even on top form he sometimes loses the ball needlessly. Like most top players. Overall though he did his job once again. I had no complaints. I expect him to be more focused against Germany. The German side will be very lucky to surive the Argies this time. He's been amazing apart from yesterday where he lost the ball cheaply on quite a few occasions and generally looked disinterested at times. It wasn't vintage Messi, alot of his dribbles weren't coming off too.
He's been average this World Cup. Messi seems to get a lot of style points when it comes to judging how good he's been. He keeps trying too hard to score and ends up struggling to make a real impact. Maybe he'll shine in the latter stages.
That way Rooney did his job too this WC. Just that his team mates didn't capitalize. That's rubbish really. Messi is trying to walk in the footsteps of Maradona, not be a tactical tool. Zidane at 35 plus (I think) was destroying teams in the last world cup. He was too good to just be playing a certain way to benefit others. He doesn't need goals to be doing his job. yes, average, we've seen a lot of players doing what he does like emmm ... wait, don't despair, i know i'll remember one or two ...
Who cares if he does what others don't do? We already know that about him. There are others doing much more than he does and doing more than matters. Oezil for example whose been twice as good as Messi.yes, average, we've seen a lot of players doing what he does like emmm ... wait, don't despair, i know i'll remember one or two ...
I think yesterday he was average by his standards, he lost the ball way more than usual, I went to cry to my Messi shrine in my bedroom after the match, asking "Why!"

It's like Ronaldo hitting a free kick like noone else can, but not managing to actually succeed with one, YET being hailed as being brilliant with free kicks in the tournament.
He's been average by the standards of top players. Last night he was just plain average.so you don't know what the word "average" means
Of course it is. I never said anything close to that. It's not my fault you decided to think such crap up. I can't account for your lack of tactical nous. That way Rooney did his job too this WC. Just that his team mates didn't capitalize. That's rubbish really.
Maradona was a tactical tool in 1986. His pass to Burchaga in the final was classic proof. Same as the run he helped the Argies make to the final 4 years later. The difference is he was so much better than Messi that he could still do that and be better than anyone else in the tournament by some distance. Anyone who expected the same from a kid like Messi this time around is mad. It's in 2014 when he might be capable of that.. Messi is trying to walk in the footsteps of Maradona, not be a tactical tool.
He was 35 and a national and international icon. Messi is a kid, finally beginning to shine in a national shirt aged about 22. To attempt to equate the two is beyond dumb.Zidane at 35 plus (I think) was destroying teams in the last world cup. He was too good to just be playing a certain way to benefit others.
Messi is not doing anything remotely close to what Rooney did for us. Messi is attracting all the attention of opposing teams whilst conducting play, allowing Argentina to capitalize on the attacking talents of other players ignored by the attention on Messi. He is clearly enjoying it too because he is naturally a central play maker. It has feck all to do with sacrifice. It's a deliberate tactical ploy and Messi is going to get better in the role as the tournament progresses. Just like his coach did in 1986.Rooney did that for us because he wasn't as good as Ronaldo. If he was better than the latter, there was no need for 'the sacrifice'.

Goes without saying Marcos.

i think he's been playing brillantly, a lot better than he did for argentina during the qualifying games
don't forget that most teams defensive tactic is to stop him

Nah, he's been pretty good and especially so in the group stage matches.

Peculiar
I'm guessing you've not seen a single game of Argentina's.
He wasn't. Lionel is a natural old school playmaker. Playing out on the wing has made people think otherwise. He's a proper attacking player, it was crazy to see Maradona trying to make a playmaker out of him.
More like we need to steal all the info on their training methods...We need to find out what theyre putting in the waters, at barcas youth academy.
