Lionel Messi

In advance of Wednesday's match versus Seattle Sounders, the Barcelona striker had a good look at the city.

To commemorate Barcelona’s 2009 U.S. Tour, Argentine striker Lionel Messi, considered by many to be the world’s greatest player, made the trek to the roof of Seattle’s historic Space Needle where he showcased a commemorative scarf featuring the team marks of both Barcelona and Seattle Sounders.

He then visited the famed observation deck, where he juggled the ball to the delight of the tourists visiting the landmark.

The Space Needle was built in 1962 in time for Seattle’s World Fair, and has remained the city’s main attraction. The image of the Needle is incorporated into the logo of Seattle Sounders, the successful MLS expansion club which faces Barcelona on Wednesday at a sold-out Quest Field.

Barça defeated the LA Galaxy 2-1 in a memorable match at the Rose Bowl, where more than 93,000 watched the game, the most fans to attend a soccer game in the United States since the 1994 World Cup.

Barcelona continues on to San Francisco, to face CD Guadalajara on Saturday, August 8 at Candlestick Park.

Afterwards, Barcelona's players head back to Spain to defend three major titles - the La Liga trophy, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.

For Lio only sky is the limit.

Poor Ronaldo...

:lol::lol::lol:

Sick.

Good highlights, it is Messis ability to dominate a match that makes him the stand out player in world football. In 45 mins he created countless chances for himself and team mates, rarely gave it away, was everywhere on the pitch and bagged 2 goals.

Meaningless friendly but vintage Messi nontheless. BPITW.

He was playing against Seattle, Frankly. Playing well against Seattle doesn't deserve any praise.

You love to justify your view using meaningless friendlies don't you?

in the messi thread you cant praise him for his performances?

i watched the highlights you posted boss...

if they mean nothing why even bring them up or mention them?

I commented on the most recent outing by the best player in the world, i'm sure Messi was pleased with his showing as were all the fans who turned out to see him and the fans watching at home.

hang on though, we can no longer talk about Messi unless he is playing the very very best...

I insulted him by saying he had a great performance

I brought up the highlights because that lad Dumbo asked for them, he played a great game but using it for the BPITW tag is slightly patronizing, you don't think?

C'mon Frank everybody except a few dumbclucks like cal agrees that Messi is god. You need to do a bit more work on Ibrahimovic though.

he has that tag already and for most he's had it for quite a while.

i dont really understand the bitterness towards calling him the best, for whatever reason after what ever game. It's plain as day the truth.

Well whilst Messi is undesputed best in the world the same cant be said for Ibra, under-rated by most on here (typically) but should go on and prove a few points with Barca where people will be very likely to watch him week in week out and finally see what the fuss is about.

Well, they might just stick to watching madrid and ignore barca, cal etc will for sure... :wenger:

yeah because Messi is the best and i appreciate that and will post at will about the best player of his generation due to that appreciation.

Cal has many posts based on his dislike for spain, messi and most importantly the fact that SAF thinks Ronaldo is the best, which means it's obviously true

a good majority of your posts seem to be about Ronaldo....

You two are no different.
Cal's hatred for Spain is nothing compared to some of the nonsense you come out with regarding England and the players there.

Naturally, other posters constantly bring Ronaldo into it because they couldnt face the fact that people rated the little Argentine better than CR7 (CR9 now) so they would cry and moan about it, i responded by telling them exactly why Messi is the better player but you cannot stop the CR7/9 fans from invading any thread about a player who isnt CR7/9...

What nonsense? the fact i dont think it is the best league in the world by a distance or the fact i think some players are over-rated...

The prem is one of the best, possibly the best but that doesnt mean that it and the players in the league are free from any objective criticism.

So what you are saying saying is throughout this thread you never mention Ronaldo without any provocation? Only as a response to others

Valencia destroyed Valencia. BPITW for next year. Fixed.

What are the odds that Valencia will set up 1000 goals this season and this thread turns into Messi Vs Valencia thread?

Cal is pretty obsessed but I get the feeling cares less about this debate than FV. I think Frankly gets angry everytime he sees a kid with a Ronaldo shirt on.

i know, i said it was meaningless but it still showed what he is about and why he is the best.

The fact he can do that to any team in the world vindicates that.

1 goals in 11 games against Premier League teams suggests otherwise.

But still its a goal higher than what Ronaldo scored against all Spanish teams through out his career. :wenger:

Messi whenever he had played 90 minutes was arguably the MOTM against English teams.

Who mentioned Ronaldo?;)

By the way Vijay when Liverpool beat Barcelona in 2006/07 was Messi man of the match in both legs?

Cal's clutching at straws over an argument that doesnt carry much sense.

He used to be a great fan of Spanish football but his opinions changed after his all time favoruite player got transferred to Barcelona, Also Henry winning the CL medal is something Cal's finding it hard to accept as reality

Young lio was returning from a midseason hamstring injury not really matchfit.
Whenever Messi was matchfit and played for 90 minutes he has always been the MOTM against English teams.

Injuries were the only reason he wasnt able to surpass Fat Ronaldo else he would've already wont two FIFA and Ballondors by now.

In the post Maradona era, only Zidane, Ronaldo, Romario and Laudrup look better than Messi at the moment and its only a matter of two seasons he could surpass them all.

Ronaldo needs at least one more great season in Spain to be rated on par with Henry and Ronaldinho.

Ah, got ya, so add 'match fit' to your original post as well. By the way, Just curious, was Messi Man of the match in both legs against Chelsea last season? Also when Chelsea played Barca in the group stages of the Cl, home and away in 2006/07 was Messi man of the match?

You know, where Drogba ran riot at Stamford Bridge and scored that brilliant goal or at the Camp Nou where Lampard scored that audacious chip, I remember it slightly different

 Only Zidane has looked better than Cristiano Ronaldo in the post-Maradona era, he's at least on par with Romario & Ronaldinho and clearly ahead of Henry and Luiz Ronaldo.

If Ronaldo can sustain his level of excellence for another couple of years, you can rate him in that kind of bracket, but at the moment, Its Zidane > everybody else.

What I find humorous is that people are touting Messi as the messiah, but he's failed to sustain his form for a long period of time. It was really only last year 'and shades in 05/06' that he was one of the most promising in the world. Not as influential in 06/07-07/08 as people would like to think, but still enough to keep the punters guessing.

For me its Iniesta > Messi. Just look at the CL final. Iniesta & Xabi ran that game, not Messi.
