Two years in a row, it has been an amazing match. Aguero is the new 'Barca slayer.' He took the throne from Fernando Torres, every time he plays them is looks possessed.

That game you mentioned had 3 outstanding goals. Henry's' traditional curler which he is known for, Forlans left footer wonder strike but the best had to be Messi's. He pretended he was going on way, then the space opened up and he just attacked it ghosting pass everyone in the process and slotting it cooly. He did the same move after but I think he missed on that occasion.

Barca was going through a dip in form then I think and questions were being raised about their mentality.

Yeah that was their little sticky period. I think Messi hit the post, he was unplayable in the first half but faded in the 2nd as Atletico really bombarded Barca with Aguero as you said possessed. Fantastic entertainment.

Was it the season before he scored 2 or was it a hat-trick? i remember him just banging them in and tormenting the defenders to no end. It was around that time i really started paying attention to Aguero, smashing talent.

the game where Atletico beat Barca 4-3 was unreal...

i mean you have Atletico who have been hit for 4-5-6 or whatever the last couple of games they have played against Barca yet they come out to attack and get a magnificent 4-3 victory. Unreal...
Exactly. Gone are the days such bravery existed in the prem. Only the Bundesliga still possess that outside Spain.

On another note, Arsenal drive me up the wall with their constant desire to not shoot. I find it highly un entertaining. I'm sure glad Wenger signed Arshavin, Narsi and that Rosicky is back. At least they break that mould.....

Yeah they give them the cutting edge to actually go on and score.

I think if Arshavin stays fit he could be the catalyst for something special, a potential player of the year. I really love the way he plays, his boundless confidence. He's a cheeky little fecker really but he has such ability.

Honestly man, in the prem these days everybody seems to go 4-5-1 when facing the bigger teams. I still remember 2006/07 where Madrid got beaten 3 nil by some lowly team at their own stadium who outplayed them completely. It seems more teams are willing to really give it a go.

Messi vs the Galaxy the other day:

:lol:Now I love Messi as much as the next guy but if any performance didn't deserve to be made into a highlights reel then it was that one.

Some may say they are pointlessly reductive but I love these vids of a great players whole 90 minute performance condensed into a 10 minute video. Shame youtube cappers weren't around when F. Ronaldo or even Maradona were in their prime.

Aye i love the elmagicomessi guy on you tube, he does a cracking job. He makes a vid for every game even when Messi doesnt play great he still puts one together. It's great stuff :D

For real that's not his best performance but there seems to be videos out there for very game he plays along with Ronaldo. Apart from his game vs Real Madrid last season I think this was his best performance:

There actually is game compliations for Fat Ronaldo and Maradona on youtube. Zidane and Henry too

IMO he is the best player in the EPL currently. & with Wenger set to use him behind Van Piersie, he should help Arsenal surprise many this season.

Arshavin is an outstanding player, I had suspicions about him because he played in the Russian league but he has been great since coming over. A fantastic addition to the Prem

An outstanding player alright, but not sure if he's better than the likes of Rooney, Torres, Lampard...

Arshavin? Intriguing view...

I've at least 5 players ahead of him.
That's alright. For me, technichally, only Giggs is as good as he is in all the EPL and he has that infectious wining mentality and match wining ability a Ronaldo or Henry had. A thing he has shown while in Russia, while playing for Russia and in his short spell at Arsenal. The dude is ubber effective Lampard style. That Liverpool 4-4 draw left quite an impression on me. He simple had no mercy. Without breaking a real sweat.

That was a great performance, but I've also seen him looking disinterested and ineffective in many other games.

Personally I think he's definitely one to watch, but I won't jump to the conclusion of calling him the best player around.

Really? Many? I thought he's been very consistent since arriving, maybe against us he had minimal impact.

Ever since he's got here, he's been in excellent form. If he maintains that, then they've got someone fairly special there. A signficiant upgrade on Hleb, which is impressive in itself given how good he was in his last season for Arsenal.

Agreed. IMO I just wish Rooney could develop this fellas ruthlessness and confidence, whilst playing in a United shirt. On top of getting back he's "No worries, I just sort them out" confidence of 2005. I miss the days Rooney had that confidence in our shirt. It saddens me to see Capelo getting it from him in an England shirt:(

Who have England actually played with Capello though? Semi-professionals? It is not the same calibre of the games Rooney plays in a Manchester United Shirt, it has been real easy for him

I wouldn't call Croatia that.

It should be the same in a United shirt. We surround him with better players. But for some reason England of late have been the only ones benefitting from him getting extra confidence and his vastly improved finishing.

Personal I never see the reason why we can't get 30 performance during our season form Rooney, at the level he displayed vs Bolton when he scored a wicked hatrick some eyars back, and the Milan game at OT. I have no doubt's his good enough to do it.

Weren't Croatis down to 10 men for the majority of the game? They also seem to be the only decent team in the group.

Rooney is world class. I'm just saying international form especially with the group Engand have should not be the indicator of his talents. You always get these top scorers in these qualifiers that are not of any real quality.

That hat rick against Bolton was class, it came at a time where people were questioning him because he had not scored in a while. The problem so far in his career is that he's been way too inconsistent, always a good run of goals to a barren spell. This season though I am counting on him to score around 30, it's his time to shine.

Maradona vs England 1980

Maradona video vs Belgium in 86

Nah, that's not true at all.

Every time he's played, bar once or twice at most, he's been a threat. More often than not he's been their best or most threatening player.

He was better than Ronaldo in the second half of the season.

Agreed. For me I just want him to simply start raping on a constant basis the cannon fodder of the football world. It is what breeds confidence. He needs to start hitting two's on the regular versus such sides, Ronaldo style. That way he will be more deadly for us than always being ace in big games and on big occasions, with the exception of the champions league final thus far.

Barcelona's Messi Climbs To New Heights In Seattle

In advance of Wednesday's match versus Seattle Sounders, the Barcelona striker had a good look at the city.

To commemorate Barcelona’s 2009 U.S. Tour, Argentine striker Lionel Messi, considered by many to be the world’s greatest player, made the trek to the roof of Seattle’s historic Space Needle where he showcased a commemorative scarf featuring the team marks of both Barcelona and Seattle Sounders.

He then visited the famed observation deck, where he juggled the ball to the delight of the tourists visiting the landmark.

The Space Needle was built in 1962 in time for Seattle’s World Fair, and has remained the city’s main attraction. The image of the Needle is incorporated into the logo of Seattle Sounders, the successful MLS expansion club which faces Barcelona on Wednesday at a sold-out Quest Field.

Barça defeated the LA Galaxy 2-1 in a memorable match at the Rose Bowl, where more than 93,000 watched the game, the most fans to attend a soccer game in the United States since the 1994 World Cup.

Barcelona continues on to San Francisco, to face CD Guadalajara on Saturday, August 8 at Candlestick Park.

Afterwards, Barcelona's players head back to Spain to defend three major titles - the La Liga trophy, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey.

For Lio only sky is the limit.

Poor Ronaldo...

:confused:What does Ronaldo got to do with this?

Watched Messi score 2 in his 45 minute appearance in a friendly last night at Seattle. He really is a pleasure to watch - so quick, precise and visionary. You just come to expect a Barca goal whenever he has the ball. He's definitely the star of their team.

:confused:What does Ronaldo got to do with this?

Vijay would rather listen to some stupid journalist saying Messi is considered to be the World's finest than believe Sir Alex saying Ronaldo is streets ahead of Messi.

Vijay should have been watching United instead of Barcelona for the last 6 years.

Messi would not be happy with him, mentioning Ronaldo all the time when he is supposed to be talking about the Argentine. Messi may start to think he is obsessed wit somebody else!

Quite... it's almost as if he thinks talking down Ronaldo justifies Messi's greatness.
