Sneaky bum time - Vaccination status: dozed off
Guardiola hasn't been underwhelming, people expecting such things are being silly. It's not an absolute bye, but we have threads saying Guardiola has been underwhelming since his tenure at Bayern, and that Madrid have massively underachieved since Ronaldo joined them. On the other hand I recall APOEL Nicosia getting plaudits from all corners for making it to the last 8 of the Champions League. So there is some sort of expectation for the big clubs of the day to make it to the latter stages, beyond which it can be a crapshoot.
Madrid have underachieved given the amount they've spent.
And Apoel making it that far is excellent.
The big clubs should make it to the latter stages, just like Germany and Brazil should make it to the latter stages in the World Cup. The only reason it's seeming like such an easy ride to you is because it takes place very year so when bayern have a great team they'll make it pretty far every year whereas Germany or Spain don't get to go as far as they naturally would if the tournament was held every year.
