Lionel Messi - Performances

Unreal this guy, the guy is making other world class players just look normal. Guy is the best striker and best creative player in world, won't see another like him for a while.

What makes it more scary is he is just 27 years old, guy is in his peak now for at least another 2-3 years. Feels like he has been around forever!
Who is Guy?

Who is Guy?

Guy Fawkes, some say currently he's so good he's on fire.

With Messi though I've watched him since his emergence into the first team as have most knowing he's a special player and we probably won't see another like him in our life time not that good and that dominant.

I actually don't like him getting older 28 in less than a month, wish he could be 23-4 again, even if this Messi is more "complete" I just don't want him to age because it's a joy watching him every game.

I think it will still be funny to see an old Messi taking the piss, just like in his younger years.
He is so intelligent that now we're seeing a slightly different Messi in terms of football, a more intelligent player than ever. When he attempts a true pass, it rarely is mistimed.
He is the king in terms of possession and play in close space whether it's dribbling or passing.

Here's something interesting..
Giuliano Poser, a nutritionist based in Sacile, near Venice, has provided the ingredients to get Messi back to his best. Since the pair have been working together, the superstar has looked noticeably slimmer, losing between four and five kilos.

Conscious that injuries and not taking good enough care of himself had stunted him in 2014, Messi has paid more attention than ever to his physical condition this season. The forward has become a different beast, gaining a yard of pace compared to last year and, almost as importantly, extra strength that enables him to withstand defenders' attentions like never before.

I think UEFA should make him spend 1 half of every season in a new team till he retires, first up Manchester United

I think only 2 other players have reached Messi level before - Maradona and Ronaldinho......but the latter 2 only did it for a season or two...Messi has dominated the game in a way never seen before for many seasons. He was poor last season but he has been sensational again....Luis Enrique and Luis Suarez have revitalized him

For me it's not even an argument that Messi is the greatest there has ever been so far.....but I respect other peoples opinions....Zidane, Cryuff, Pele etc were all the kings of their time and all raised the bar but I think Messi has raised the bar to a level that might not be matched for a long time if ever

He wasn't poor last season.

Ronaldinho would have left a similar legacy (doesn't mean it's not steller already) had he taken care of his body properly. He had the magic, but sadly lost it in terms of fitness. Should have played 3/4 years more in peak form.

For his standards he was IMO.

Considering his injury problems and the fact that he was playing in the worst Barca team in years, not to mention scoring only 10 goals less than Ronaldo, i think "Poor" is quite harsh, he did silence the Bernabeu with a hatrick after all.

The disgusting thing is that he's scored a goal that was arguably just as impressive against the same opposition.

 I love this post. GUY.

Here's something interesting..

Interesting.

Looking at the picture of him celebrating (clapping to the cloud) after his goal on the weekend I thought to myself that he, well his face really, looks slimmer than usual.

I can't fathom another player being close to him nevermind better than him. He's is by a distance the best player I've ever seen. His level of domination and making things look easy is unparalleled. The only other sports person in any field I can think of that is close to his level of absurd brilliance is probably Henry Shefflin and even then there are current/recent players who could have a case to make as being as good as him.

To put it into perspective it would literally be lunacy to compare an amazing player like Zidane to Messi. A player of that level is nowhere near him.

Tony Kelly (Co.Clare).

Tony Kelly (Co.Clare).

Yep, he's got a huge future ahead of him (and present). I was also thinking Tommy Walsh! It's funny when it comes to Messi, Maradona is the very last player who played the game who could possibly be compared with him and come out on top or even close. Is there any other sportsperson who is hands down the best at their field to that extent currently? Maybe Mayweather and Katie Taylor, can't think of any others who are so far ahead of their fields.

I don't even think I've seen a guy as dominant as him (relatively speaking) in our amateur football levels. It's like most of the decisions he makes on a pitch are spot on. His footballing intelligence is ridiculous, no one comes close.

He wasn't poor last season.

He absolutely was. This season (and 2010/11) is the standard by which he should be judged. I think he was phoning it in near the crunch time of last season, allowing Atletico Madrid to win La Liga and knock them out of the CL. This season he has upped his game.

Injury problems, worst Barca team in years, still managed to score 10 goals less than Ronaldo in his best season (arguably), started toning it down a little bit in order to get fit just in time for the World Cup still managed to silence the Bernabeu with a Hatrick in the process (there were other great performances did is just the most popular one), he carried Argentina out of the group stage by averaging a goal a game, was integral for them in the knockout phase along with Mascherano.

You can't set the bar that high because of one colossal season, he wasn't that great, but calling it a poor season is kind of harsh imo, World Cup final (best player),Copa del rey final, finished 2nd in the league on the final day of the season,QF of the CL.

Very extremely harsh way of looking at things. Every player has a dream season in his career and not being able to repeat doesn't make that player having a poor season.

I think his passing and creativity has been better this season compared to 2010/11. He scored more goals then, but this season he has created so many chances for Neymar/Suarez - it's incredible actually.

Was he playing better than this in 2011-12? Scored 73 goals that season (how?!).

Fan video of the goal from the stand. This is incredible

Incredible. I want to watch this man live. Some people who have need to realise how lucky they are to watch him play. Not to fussed about watching Ronaldo. I have played against many wannabes.
