As an argentine I remember the brazilian attack with Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka and ADriano on their prime. Everytime they got close to the area I would shet in my pants.

Messi is just so much better than any other player I've seen, so I can pretty confidently say he's the best player ever. Obviously I never saw Maradona and Pele and it's probably impossible to compare. I'm not even exaggerating when I say no one comes close. Fat Ronaldo is the closest I've seen until he got injured, and that injury happened when he was very young. So while he might have had potential to be on Messi's level, even wasn't close.

I had the game on last night but my Mrs was going nuts as I'd just watched the fa cup fina so we're on the laptop looking on Netflix for a movie to watch. Now I've got the tv on mute but keep glancing over at the match. I see Messi pick up the ball so keep my eyes on him...beats 1 ....2 others join the original defender, Messi brings them all to a halt then out of nowhere he's beaten all 3! I sit up a little....he beats another...hands on head time now...he shoots GOAL! I was on my feet I couldn't believe it.

I think this season he is playing the best football he's ever played. I'd say he's lost maybe a tiny bit of explosiveness but he's making up for it with dramatically improved maturity. Don't know if that's the right word considering he's always been a team player who passed the ball but it's different now. In previous years he primarily played the final pass (trade mark throughball between centerback and fullback) whereas Xavi and Iniesta advanced the play in midfield. This season Messi is doing pretty much both consistently at a world class level (see last 2 gifs, pickicking up the ball in his own half to advance the play). More like an attacking midfielder than a false 9. He's also doing defensive work again. The best Messi for me.

Please stop the fat Ronaldo comparisons, he was absolutely brilliant and arguably the best striker of the past 20 years. But he could do nothing that Messi can't, absolutely nothing.

He scared me even in the semi final in which we beat them.
I keep saying it. At times it just feels a bit unfair, and even sometimes you're just as baffled as the oppositions by his goals, passing, and skills. We're just lucky and also grateful to Carlos Rexach for having faith in a young kid with hormonal growth dysfunction. The amount of joy he brings us and even other football fans is just amazing.
