Please people - I beg of you - no more "back the manager"/"get behind the manager" nonsensical dogma in the face of overwhelming evidence.

Please just be a normal fanbase moving forward

Exciting times. Just need to make sure they don't rush it and potentially stick with Ruud until the end of the season if need be. However well Ruud does, he cannot be given the job, and, under no circumstances, should it be given to a plonker named Gareth.

So you're telling me now if we went on a 25 game unbeaten run, qualified comfortably for the top 4. Won the Europa league and FA Cup, we should then move on to someone else?

Why? because we gave ole the job and it didn't work out? If we waited until the end of the season with Ole and assessed things he wouldn't have ever gotten the job as the performance didn't merit it. But if the above happened, of course he should probably get the job longer term as there is a degree of success there, so that's where your UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES falls down.

Well I can tell you that - my excitement for football is back just because this guy who I have given up on last season is gone. Took as a while and Ineos look silly, but here we go.

Nagelsmann is the guy I think most would go for, but I think we'll have to look elsewhere for now.

I wouldn't be against Thomas Frank or Unai Emery if we can actually get them mid season. We're miles away from challenging for the league, so someone that has experience of doing well in the Premier League might be the way to go instead of a more hipster choice.

But either way, it's just nice that it's over

We should cross that bridge once we get to it.

Really needs at this point to be someone who can mould and coach players. Conte is who you go to with an established squad of performers who are less than the sum of their parts. United aren't that at the moment.

True. But honestly, if Xavi is being discussed right now it is surely because he is actually available (as in not in a job). If we have to wait until summer, there are a number of more qualified and/or more promising candidates. Inzaghi, Amorim for starters.
If we believe that there are better names available next summer, then there is no reason to hurt ourselves long term by appointing someone now just because they happen to be available.

Why? Euro just finished and qualifications for next big competition didn't even start yet.
This is right time for him to decide about future.

He's just come off a very good Euros, there's much more optimism around the national team, after three previous poor competitions, with some youngsters coming through as well. There's no chance he'll leave the national team now before the World Cup.

There really isn't a lot about his 'future' at stake. He's still under 40 and incredibly young for a manager, it's not as if he can't get another big job if he doesn't accept this one and stays with Germany for at least another couple of years.

Amorim would be ideal. Young and hungry with charisma. Proven winner in Portugal which is a very difficult and high-quality league.

So its a choice of Xavi, Terzic, Ole, Potter or giving Ruud the season.

Oh and how could I forget Benitez

Really short sighted of the INEOS geniuses to renew him in the summer.
What an exciting list. What about clubs where managers don’t have long in their contracts?

Is it the same thorough process last summer that ended up with Ten Hag staying and even got his contract extended?

We should cross that bridge once we get to it.
Obviously. But his post said he shouldn't be given the job under any circumstance, there are clearly circumstances, no matter how unrealistic they are, where he would be kept on as permanent manager.

I think the renew included a clause to pay out less in case of games lost/league position.

So they've probably saved money to be fair.

I agree. It musn't be a pipe dream though, like Alonso. We need to lay the ground work now.

But he didn't sign that renewed contract, so they just extended his old one. So I am not aware of any source claiming that the extension made it cheaper to fire him, only the opposite.

Whoever it is needs to be aware not to trust the snakes in this squad as tools will inevitably be dropped once the going gets tough.

Once certain players start to perform brilliantly for the next 6 months, they need to be moved on while their value is at its peak immediately.

Why would it have that? it was just the triggering of a pre-agreed year extension from his original agreement, so unless the original agreement had that in, which i'm not sure how any of us would know that, this won't be the case.

Think the issue we’re seeing is, INEOS are now in charge and since taking over they’ve been all about saving money. So they’ve given in by having to pay out like 15m for ETH to be sacked. They’re going to look at the cheapest appointment available even though it will surely save them more money by getting a more promising manager.

Stevie G did well at a sleeping giant. Took them from midtable in the SPL to the title within a few years against a juggernaut who had won the league 9 times in a row. The parallels between where United currently find themselves and where Rangers were prior to his appointment should not be overlooked. He should definitely be on the poll.
