Let's all laugh at England

Great decision by the ref and very much in line with the generally good refereeing throughout the tournament. This includes the yellow on Jorginho yesterday and Shaw's foul on the Danish player leading up their goal, in case you're wondering.

Have you read past the headline?

Yes. Hitmen, fireworks & car crashes. It’s wild!!… but the “15 people were hurt, three seriously, in rowdy, post-match partying. One of them lost three fingers when a firework exploded in his hand.” seemed particularly relevant to the England fan discussion, considering arse man from yesterday…

I’ve also seen stuff from the semis my Italian cousins have sent me of people being drunkenly knocked off their scooters by cars and fireworks and general drunken tomfoolery… none of which means the Italians as particularly or uniquely awful, but d’you guys want a bit of back and forth, or d’you want a safe space?

51 pages. Holy smokes. Though still less than 55 years since they won their last major trophy.

First time in a very long time I've read every page of such a long thread  thread of the year.

Chelsea and City fans will love this thread if they stumble across it. 50 + pages of people hating England but supporting an English club - it’s essentially evidence of is being just as plastic as they are.

I don’t want to get into an argument about wider global fandom, but Home Nations fans in particular have absolutely no obligation to support us Internationally, nor should they, and also have had more than enough players historically represented here to justify their club support as anything but plastic…

We’ve still been singing “Scotland get battered everywhere they go” at every game (despite the irony of us being the only team to categorically NOT batter them) and No Surrender still gets an airing by some in 2021 (though thankfully largely confined to pubs these days) so imagining they should be respectful is entirely fanciful.

Who cares what they think? They are going to take swipes at us no matter what. This whole nonsense of having to support England needs to stop. No one is obligated to do that, it's as silly argument as having to support English club sides when they play in the CL.

Do you think all City and Chelsea fans support England?

I agree - we’re a global fanbase and no-one has to support England just because they support Utd. But there’s a big difference between not supporting and spewing hatred. Of course those who are spewing hatred are still free to support Utd - it’s just it’s a bit weird. Surely you see that?

Aww you mad

I guess it depends on what you consider 'spewing hatred', in my eyes most of the things posted here are banter level but can be considered to step into the wum territory. But one thing is for sure is that some of the England fans have been overly sensitive and unreasonable to the point its just making things worse. This thread is clearly made to have laugh, if you can't take that just don't venture into it?

Yeah, you’re right - I’ll leave it now. I think I’ve made my point and do think it’s a bit sad but I’ll stay clear and let them have their fun now.

England lost because their level of intensity wasn't there. Kane and Sterling were strolling about while the Italians were running hard so that the English players have no chance to rest when they have the ball.

They were simply too entitled, knowing they won't be subbed out early so they conserve their energy not running much. Truth is the 5+1 subs probably hurt England a lot more than Italy.

Now that my annoyance over the penalties has settled somewhat, I'm proud of how England have done.

It's been easily the best England team in my life-time. To go through a tournament, get to a final, only concede 2 goals, and lose on penalties is about as close as you can get to winning it without actually doing it. 3 semi-finals/finals in the past 3 tournaments is great news, and we're only getting better.

Lots of positives to take into the world cup (eurgh, Qatar...). If only someone teaches Southgate how to attack, then the future's looking bright.

Oh definitely.

The worst thing is, it should have played in our favour, with out strength in depth. Shame Southgate is allergic to subs.

I just think it’s a poor line of argument…

This is cringeworthy bants tbf… they were doing so well with the Braveheart shit.

This thread would have probably been already dead if nobody would pour gasoline on the fire like that genius a few posts above calling people who don't support England NT as plastic. This thread is surprisingly decent otherwise, barely anyone here is "spewing hatred", it's mostly just banter, same thing we do when our rivals fail.

Anyway, maybe there is a reason most of supporters from other countries don't like England national team, don't you think? Or you think the entire world just randomly decided to root against England. Personally I have absolutely nothing against England, I fully support our players who were selected and want them to win trophies. But at the same time England national team just happens to be extremely unlikeable for multiple reasons and many people seem to share the same opinion.

It’s just clear that England fans can’t take banter. I had the same scenario at work, the English lads gave it all tournament but today were willing to lose their jobs over receiving some back. The other nationals took their losses on the chin.

And don’t forget practice penalties

And don’t forget practice penalties

To be fair, I think we have a 66% penalty win record under Southgate.

But maybe if he learned how to make a substitution before that point, we wouldn't need to get to them....
