Let’s sign Gareth Bale

Would love him here, but I don’t think he actually wants to leave Madrid. He’s watched that little princess threaten to leave every summer and get his way, so why not do the same?

But he is not the multiple Ballon D'Or winner. There is only that much he could demand.

I'd take him in a straight swap deal with David De Gea going the other way. Otherwise not interested.

Really?! I'd rather we spent 250 million on him. Any deal including De Gea should be totally out of the question. He's our best player by some distance, and the best GK in the world. We would be seomthing like 5th or 6th this season without him.

I feel demanding to play football is reasonable, though.
Yes, it is. If he wants to play too often, he would need to leave
But he would probably need to settle to a more acceptable levels of salary if the rumours of high salary are true. He is 29 and is had only 1 relatively better season in last 4.

He’s not asking for more money, he’s asking for regular football which every player seems to demand now. He picked the best time to do it. His name was at an all time high after he and Karius won Madrid the champions league.

Just read the update from Guillem Balague on the situation: http://www.skysports.com/football/n...important-at-real-madrid-says-guillem-balague

He's quoting the £200m fee as a possibility. I think we should definitely not go for him if that's the price. For £70m or something similar he'll be a worthwhile investment IMO, but certainly not for £200m.

Having said that, the gist I get from what Balague is saying is that Bale still prefers to stay in Real, he just wants some assurances from them.

But your post compared him with CR7 threatening to leave the club. Bale doesn't have that kind of clout.

Let's get shafted by real for a guy who has one of the worst injury records in football. Instead of going for someone young and upcoming like Leon Bailey.

For 50m, with 350k a week wage - sure! But reality is that Madrid will fleece us and i don’t think Bale is worth it considering his injury record. If he was fit, he would play all the time as he is a class player, but Zidane has found out he can’t rely on him.

There is more sensible solutions in the transfer market, like Bailey or Pulisic. They are not at the same level at all, but they are just at the beginning of their career and with a lot of hunger to make it.

Tbf Zidane hasn’t played him when he’s been fit too - hence why bale wants out. This is a point people are ignoring.

For £70m he'll be an absolute bargain. Mahrez is rumoured to go for £75m. I agree £200m is waaaay to much, but £70m is totally unrealistic. How exactly is your valuation of him £70m? I have no idea how to calculate player value, but he will be a lot more expensive than Mahrez, that's for sure.

Has that changed recently or something? Surely they can't expect to get much more for him since he want out and they probably want to get rid too. Who's going to buy bale for any more money?

I think that's why he has actively come out and said something as well. This is much more vocal than I recall Bale ever being. I can't help connecting it to Jose's "you never speak" from last summer .

It makes sense too - he has just won everything with them including 4 Champions Leagues and is now in the utmost prime of his career. I can easily see how playing week in week out becomes a prioroty as does a fresh challenge

We have two up and coming guys in Rashford and Martial right now. We can't build a team entirey made up of youngsters, and still expect to win anything at all. I'm not saying "you can't win anything with kids", but you'll need a few adults on the pitch as well. Also, Bailey is primarily a LW.

Yeah the use of that smiley is not at all ironic coming from a guy who is happy to ignore very good reasons not to sign him.
Rooney was 1 of the most famous players in the world and he was hardly a good looker, it's not about how you look, it's how you play.

Madridista's don't deserve to have a player of Bale's quality. They have never stood behind him. They will have you believe that Isco and Assensio are better players even though Bale has scored more goals than both of them combined. They are a fickle bunch. If you're not Spanish they will jeer you at the drop of a hat. Bale would be loved and adored at United. We should have signed him years ago...

The Mahrez price tag is being quoted all over the place. I'll provide you with a tweet from the transfer tweets thread.

And I'll imagine at least Chelsea to be interested in paying more than £70m for Bale. Maybe even Spurs if they sell Eriksen, if not for his wages. I have no idea about other clubs economies, but even Juve could be tempted to pay more than £70m imho (keep in mind they payed even more for Higuaìn).

that’s not strictly true though is it?

Just look at his injury record, every season it's something, wether it's a long or short term injury he always gets one. For someone who is a winger and especially with the playstyle Bale has relying on solely power and pace, he has picked up a dreadful amount of muscle injuries. PL is also a lot more physical than La Liga.

Bottom line is signing this guy is nothing but a highly expensive risk, you know with Real they will take any opportunity they can to shaft us. Do we really want to take that risk? I mean sure if he stays fit its a no brainer put him on that RW and we would become serious title contenders, but the problem is theres a 90% chance he won't stay fit and thats a big risk to take for someone who will cost 100m+ and 29

It was reported months ago that Madrid want to sell him and him spending half the season on the bench backs that up, they can feck off demanding crazy money we shouldn’t go above £80m.

Would rather take Neymar if we're talking £200 million.

Sod off RM.

I think everyone would. Problem is, does Neymar want to join us? And would PSG want to sell him?

You don't just need to have the money, the player has to be available as well.

My guess is that whenever he gets a few games, he breaks down again. That's not good for the team - rather have players playing who are fit more than 5 games at the time.

This is his injury history:

Not the worst, but would be very annoying if he was out for 30+ days, then 17+, especially when it's such a huge investment signing who you rely on to reach success.

It'll be somewhere between 90-140 million. People are living in a fantasy world hoping it'll be under 80m. We'll go big for Bale if the deal is actually a goer.

The transfer fee being mentioned in the recent transfer:
Neymar - £200m
Mbappe - £166m
Coutinho - £142m
Dembele - £135.5m
Virgil van Dijk - £75m

even
Sigurðsson - £45m
Davinson Sánchez - £42m
Drinkwater - £35m
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - £35m

I don't know what people are smoking when they think Bale will be available for £40/60/70/85m, or Mahrez for £40m. It must be really strong.

I believe we will bid upto a 100 million foŕ him . He has always been Woodward 's first choice since he started his job as CEO and entered the transfer market . Probably every season he enquires about Bale's situation at Real so I can definitely see him making a bid this time around . Also Mourinho is a big Bale fan too and he needs a proven player on the right side so Woodward has Mourinho's blessings for this deal . Considering his high wages I don't think we will go over 100 million for him .

Another factor is Perez's new obsession with signing Neymar so its possible he will be willing to trade in Bale if he makes a profit on his original deal . But he is also very interested in De Gea and since De Gea hasn't signed a new contract so that will factor in any negotiations for Bale . All in all it will be a very interesting summer ahead .

I don't buy it. If Bale genuinely wants to leave a club like RM, 4+ years older than when he arrived there, he needs to help grease the wheels. Madrid will always demand ridiculous numbers, and he is a risk. I think we should offer him terms roughly equivalent to those we gave Alexis, who has recently proven himself able to handle the rigours of EPL every week. RM paid £86M for potential, I say no more than £100M. If he really wants to play every week, he'll tell his agent to get it done - otherwise the circus at PSG can have him.

1. He’s a backup player for them
2. He’s injury prone
3. He’s 29 in July

All these are important factors that massively affect his value.

Why not for 80 Million? Bale is on massive wages and if Madrid don't think he is first choice player then they will want to offload him from their payroll. Apparently he is on 600K per week, so no team will pay 120-150 Million and then match his wage demands.

Either Bale will take pay cut or Madrid will reduce transfer fee to compensate the wages, also Bale will be 29 in a month, rest all have many years at top level and they all are very injury free players.

No one is paying £200 million for Bale. At least United won't.

No thank you! Rather we keep De Gea, at least he is guaranteed to play majority of the games every season unless he is rested. He is so consistent and can probably easily play at a high level for another 7-8 years. Hopefully that is at United!

Just pay up the cash for Bale without involving De Gea!
