Let’s sign Gareth Bale

I can't see Real letting him go for £70 million. They'll be looking to recoup their original investment, or something close to it. He's 28 and a global superstar so, if he stays fit, we'll get 3 or 4 good seasons out of him with all the income from shirt sales and what-have-you too.
Which he won't.

Rooney was 1 of the most famous players in the world and he was hardly a good looker, it's not about how you look, it's how you play.
 I wasn't referring to his simian visage as a reason not to sign him. Countless people have brought up other reasons in this thread.

If he gets his will about the playing time, it would surely upset Isco and the other spaniards Vasquez and Asensio? Then a move for one of those might be ideal.

Not sure what Mourinho wants to do, but you'd think he'd ignore the cost and lure of Bale, subject to the squad as-is, although it would be different if Martial, Fellani, Mata all leave this summer.

Mourinho might, but Woodward won't.

Why would Real sell him especially when they have no one to replace him with?

Even though he's been injured he's their second highest goal scorer behind Ronaldo. Who will make up that deficit if Bale leaves? Isco ? Asensio? I don't think so.

Real would want to replace him with a world class signing like Neymar but that won't happen this summer. I think Bale will stay for another season.

Now here's a man who is thinking (unless you're a woman. In that case, woman who is thinking)

Can't help but think both of those look so overrated from the game I've watched this season. Don't see what the hype is about at all.

Asensio and Isco has looked decent when I've watched, but I'd think they're more suited to a club like City though.

Seems like Zidane doesn't want him, even though he's brilliant for them.

It's the good old Galacticos recycling scheme though. Not sure what they're even doing with that Odegaard.

Not as good but if we have £90m lying around,I'd rather we go for Dembele.

Which Dembele? The same Dembele Barcelona spent 100m on last season, or the cnut from Spurs? You won't get Ousmane for any less than Barca payed, if at all. If the cnut from Spurs, no thanks.

Tbf Zidane hasn’t played him when he’s been fit too - hence why bale wants out. This is a point people are ignoring.

It's a convenient point to ignore if your reasoning for not signing him is that he's injury prone, personally, even a semi-fit Bale would transform us, so I don't mind one bit.

Same here. It could mean the difference between winning a trophy and not

Prediction - he'll sign a new contract.

I know I'm not putting my neck on the line, but still.

All the closest journalists to Florentino Pérez, which are the only ones someone can believe as they ONLY say whatever his master wants them to say, say the same: Zizou does not want him anymore, and Florentino wants a galactico signing, and the two only desires for him are Neymar or Mbappe.

I paste what I said in the transfers thread:

"The Meatball has as good information about Real Madrid as I have about the malaysian stock markets. He knows nothing. Every journalist close to Florentino Pérez or his executives keep saying if an offer of at least 160 million € is received Florentino will put a ribbon over him sending him anywhere. Those 366 million pounds numbers were defined as nonsense by them. And they are Florentino doggies, working basically as Mouths of Sauron."

This can change eventually? Sure. And one has not to be a fricking mastermind to know what could change that: not being available any of those options both Florentino and Zidane like. The ideal signing would be Mbappe, not Neymar, as it's been repeated that's the signing Zidane really wanted. But the only chance for Neymar or Mbappe to leave is UEFA crushing PSG due to FFP. If that doesn't happen, it's impossible. Right now those journalists I talk about repeat the same: Neymar is impossible right now, and about Mbappe, they don't even talk about him as it's even more impossible. I also talked in another thread about how Zidane always rated Hazard and wanted him in Madrid, since the times Eden was in Lille and Zidane was a football director or whatever in Real Madrid before becoming the Castilla -Real Madrid B- coach, but that Hazard option has been dismissed right now by those Florentino "friends", as it's not the breaking-the-summer move Florentino would really want in a World Cup year.

What I'm 100% sure is there will be a big move implying another big move in Madrid. Which one? I don't know, and hearing those journalists, I think even Florentino doesn't know yet. Ronaldo has to talk publicly yet and he has said he will, once he's with Portugal national team, and Bale has also said he will talk with the president in a few days.

Remember Florentino is a specialist in August 31 signings -if the fax works, lol-, so the Madrid saga will be long, long, looooong.

Bale is in a really good position now. He can move clubs and earn shitloads or he can stay, still earn shitloads. Next year, who knows.

I think Ronaldinho put that myth to bed. If you're good enough people will throw money, sponsorships and women at you.

When Bale is in form he's easily top 5 in the world. I wouldn't want him to leave unless someone like Neymar or Salah signs instead, and I still rate Bale above Salah.

Huh, why? I've seen a few posts like this. Why are people seemingly wanting to see De Gea go to Madrid? I wouldn't want him part of any deal whatsoever. So strange.

Nobody wants to see DDG go, that's just bonkers, but we're realistic enough to know that like the Mounties Real Madrid nearly always get their man eventually(if not this year it'll be next year, or the year after), so instead of spending all Summer arguing the toss with them over the price/installments etc etc just offer them a straight swap(a deal that would be beneficial to both parties), take it or leave it, if they refuse hide the fax-machine, and move on.

No thank you! Rather we keep De Gea, at least he is guaranteed to play majority of the games every season unless he is rested. He is so consistent and can probably easily play at a high level for another 7-8 years. Hopefully that is at United!

Just pay up the cash for Bale without involving De Gea!

This is a big Summer, probably the most important since SAF left, and you're suggesting we negotiate, with no guarantee of success with Real Madrid for Bale and possibly miss out on other targets, no thanks.

Straight swap, or move on.

can we set up a crowd funding event to raise the money to buy him? Well, pay for his flight over to sign for us.

And then we waste time scouting and negotiating for a goalkeeper we suddenly need.

I was against signing Bale at first due to his injuries

But the last player we signed with a history of injuries, Hargreaves still won the PL & CL with us
and right now we would all love that to happen again

Commercially his value to Man Utd and Adidas would be huge and this could help
take care of the big gamble to sign him, but there is no doubt Bale is they type of player
we need to take us to the next level

Sure, we would recuperate the money in no time on shirt sales alone.:) I'd get two just to help pay for him.

For £70m he'll be an absolute bargain. Mahrez is rumoured to go for £75m. I agree £200m is waaaay to much, but £70m is totally unrealistic. How exactly is your valuation of him £70m? I have no idea how to calculate player value, but he will be a lot more expensive than Mahrez, that's for sure.

I would base it on age. Mbappe and Neymar are going for those kinds of numbers but they're both younger than Bale is.

You have a point about Mahrez though. If he's worth £75m then Bale is certainly worth £100m+.

That would be Van Persie.

According to my Instagram timeline, Bale reportedly told his teammates that he’s off to United for regular football, it’s done dealio folks.

Erickson would be a good buy.

Id prefer this over Bale, but will go for stupid money given how much Coutinho moved for and I feel Eriksen is at the same level. Prices atm are beyond stupid.

He did well in the CL final, but I still don't want him. We need to move on. The transfer fee and his ridiculous wages are not worth it imho. Let's get younger with great technique and a good fitness record, and just move forward with our team building. Cutting corners with so called experienced 'star' players has not been a winning formula for us so far, and has cost a crazy amount of money.

Plus we'd have two 'untouchable' players (Sanchez and Bale) on ridiculous wages who must play irrespective of how crap they might be at any particular moment. They are also closer to 30. That's just wasting money imo.

In the meantime, Pool and City seem to be investing wisely, whilst we fanny about.

Also, bear in mind if Madrid wanted him forever, he wouldn't have given us a second thought - that's how much he wants to be here:rolleyes: We're also the only dumb rich club who can afford his ridiculous wages. Really do not want.

This transfer if it ever happens is divisive to our fan base because of the following ;

  • Age 29 in July.... max 3 good years
  • Injury Record
  • Transfer Fee probably £120M
  • Wages probably 4 year contract on 500k per week
  • He's turned us down at least 3 times previously!
  • Will he flourish under Jose's methods
When you take all the above into consideration, this looks like a incredible risky transfer, something Woodward would therefore love to do. Currently there are no more than 6 World class outfield players in the premier League; K De Bruyne, D Silva, E Hazard, H Kane, M Salah, C Ericsson and there lies the problem on current form, none are from United now add Bale to Sanchez and Pogba and the latter 2 may finally raise their game because of Bale who on his day is very much one of the top 3 players in the Premier League!

I'm gonna stick my neck out on this one. Bale to Bayern, lewandowski to Real, Benzema to - ah who cares?
