Leon Goretzka | Bayern player in the summer

Why would Bayern sign him when they already have Tolisso? Has he flopped?

He's German and we will look to get rid of Vidal. Also, he's German.

You have to be naive to think Bayern don’t have ways of contacting him though. I’m virtually positive all clubs are tapping up these days, you even have media outlets reporting that players have agreements with clubs before a bid has been been made, and this for players that sometimes have years left on their contacts. Technically that shouldn’t be allowed but it doesn’t even be given a second though.

We signed Lewandowski a year before his contract ran out. Why is this naive thinking to prevelant around tis forum, do people really think clubs give two shits about that rule?

We would essentially play a 4-3-3 with Goretzka
---- Martial ----- Lukaku ----- Ozil ----
------ Pogba -------------- Goretzka ---
---------------- Matic -------------------
And with them being free, if we can use the money on getting in good quality fullbacks/wingbacks then we'd have the flexibility for a good quality 352 in certain games with Pogba and Goretzka providing creativity and offensive drive from midfield, wingbacks providing the width and Martial & Lukaku providing the threat up top.

Sounds too good to be true though.

Oh yeah I think we'd play 433 with Goretzka but wouldn't see the need for Ozil in that set up.

Think we will miss out on this one. I would like us to sign a player like him though to play a 3 man midfield.

Probably that Soler guy or Savic.

To be honest, your question regarding 'why Goretzka when Tolisso' (or rather, why did we spend 40+m on Tolisso if Goretzka for next summer is already agreed) is a very good one, and one that leads me to question the validity of the notion that it's certain Goretzka is joining us.

I have no idea of which role they are supposed to play and at whose expense, as we frankly have no idea who will be our coach and what formation he will use.
So I'd say, good question to which there's no answer.
Maybe there is a masterplan at Bayern, but maybe there isn't.
Exactly. I don't think it's as obvious a transfer as some are making it out to be.

There's a good chance he ends up at Bayern, it's far from being certain though. I think Juventus, Barca and some english clubs are definitely still an option. If he joins Bayern, Vidal will leave and Sanches won't come back anyway.

would give us options. against defensive teams we could drop one of Matic or Goretzka and play Ozil instead as a 10.

we still need a proper RW either way.

I think this time there might be some substance to the link. This is exactly the kind of great signing Ribalta would have made for Juve. Young, talented and free. once he gets signed up for a big club he's instantly worth a lot of money again. It's a win win for us really even if he somehow doesn't set the world alight here because whatever we sell him for would cover the money we spent on his wages and signing fee.

Perfect summer
Sanchez (free)
Ozil (free)
Goretzka (free)
Rose (40m)

How about replacing Rose with a left-back that isn’t actually coming back from a long-term injury (you know, like Luke Shaw is) and a left-back that’s free?

Fawzi Ghoulam.

You might want to read up on Ghoulam's current injury situation.

Would be a brilliant signing, especially if we manage to get him ahead of some like Barcelona on a free. Or probably for 20m or so in January to make sure we get him? Either way, bring him in. Would make that midfield 3 next to Pogba, in front of Matic so strong but also quality on the ball.

To be fair to Ozil, he plays like that for Arsenal a lot in a 3 with Sanchez where Martial is and then Giroud/Lacazette up top. Though that front 3 is better then our equivalent but you know. Could work with our midfield.

He won't leave in january, Schalke want to reach top 4 and he's their most important player.

They seem happier(?) in general to let players go on a free than to take the money in January. Kolasinac and Matip in recent years seems to suggest so.

Must suck when your best players are winding their contracts down after you put them in the shop window season after season. Many clubs would pay good money for this player.

Edit- he's also been great in FM over the last few years. Top scouting : p

Ribalta is becoming Buffett here  he was a top cog in the SouthAmerica scouts hierarchy, that's the under 20s, which might incidentally come even more interesting for you because of the less eyes and competition you face. As for Goretzka, I think more eggs are on Emre Can to replace Khedira as a like-for-like

Yeah that's the only way I see it working really.

Doesn't he take a more central role with Sanchez playing the free role in and around Giroud. Sort of what we play like when we put Lingard and Martial in.

No, it’s just mismanagement. The contracts the former DoF Horst Heldt gave out were horrible. Schalke pay incredibly high wages for average players which makes it hard to sell them. They also pay high wages to young players, which makes it kind of pointless for them to extend early after they received their first big contract. When a player breaks out, they just sit out the contract and leave for free.

Is he actually any good?
Yes. He’s very good, still has a lot of potential, and a great character. As safe a bet as it gets in my opinion. For me he’s a potential candidate to captain the German team in the future.

What @Maradona10 is writing is just not true. Not only are we allowed to officially speak to him fron January 1st, he's also allowed to sign a contract with us on the same day.
IF indeed it's already agreed that he'll join us (which I doubt), then we'll likely see him signing for us in the first few days of January.
You are right my friend.

Out of all the games that Pogba has played against the top 5 (City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs), Pogba has missed games against all except for Arsenal and he didn't even play the entire game. Pogba is such a crucial player for us and we don't have a quality backup for him. We are most likely to park the bus against City which was supposed to be a must win game. Goretzka needs to be brought in at all cost. The guy can actually help run our midfield when Pogba isn't around. He can also play with Pogba, so isn't only a Pogba backup. Pleased to beat Arsenal but 3 game suspension for Pogba is gonna hurt us.

Will just need to wait and see if there is any truth in this as Sky have been pretty false in recent times with our transfer speculation i.e. Benatia & Gudongan
Just because we didn't sign them doesn't necessarily mean we were never interested.

I'd still consider SSN to be one of the most reliable transfer sources. Not BBC level but relatively close.

Well, yeah, they will tend to be somewhat reliable when they're nicking all of their stories from better sourced journos on Twitter and elsewhere.

They definitely get a lot of stories off Twitter which they then verify. Unlike with random Twitter dudes though, I still feel that when SSN put their name behind a transfer rumour, you can generally trust that it's not pulled out of thin air. Which doesn't necessarily mean it will always come to fruition.

He'd be a great addition but this seems like a non starter, Bayern will hoover him up as they do with most of the top Bundesliga talents.

If he really is as good as people are saying, then we should offer him a very lucrative contract to make it difficult for clubs like Munich.

No newspapers have carried this. Its sky alone who have, sounds like bullshit to me.
