I’ve yet to be impressed by him, hopefully he comes good in his second season after settling in a bit more.
To be fair he has moved to a new country at 18, got a bad injury in his first game and then comes into the team when it’s an absolute shit show. I’ve yet to be impressed but I’d give him a free pass on this season.

Jesus Christ some of the comments on here are really clueless. Thought he was excellent aside from losing the header for the first goal. Second goal is on Maguire for being so deep.

I agree people (including me) have been throwing a strop and unfairly blaming the young lad. But if you stop to think about it who else besides us would have spent 50m on a potential defensive star given the numerous issues we had in scoring goals and in fact all over the pitch. I'm sorry but the only way his fee is justified is if he was a CB version of Rooney, i.e. not a project but a ready made world class player. He's clearly not that nor will be any time soon. Thats the frustration at least for me

I think the if you assume a goal of competing around the top of the league this season and the next, it would make more sense to save the Højlund, Yoro, and even Zirkzee and Dorgu money and spend them on a 26 year old striker and either a midfielder or a CB ready to deliver now, in the vein of De Ligt and Onana.

If your ambition is to be able to compete at that level three years from now, I think it may be a better idea. It seems to me that is what the powers that be are aiming for now.

Maguire is the last man. Yoro shouldn't play offside trap if he was not sure of the line. Last man calls the shot on the pitch.

He showed much more than he's currently showing for Lille last season. I guess he's just getting used to the league and the system isn't really helping him either. I believe he will come good.

If he can slot into Martinez's position we'll it would really help us out, as I think Maz is great in the RCB slot.

Probably an inefficient use of funds to spend huge money on an 18 year old defender who's not quite ready for this level.

But considering the league is a complete write off we may as well give him as many games as possible now to let him gain experience and get comfortable. All we can do at this point is try to make sure he fuifils his potential as quickly as possible so we can start getting benefit out of the money spent.

We did the complete opposite with Amad, we could have had a much more developed version of him right now if we hadn't given him so little game time in his career.

Antony was better in training eh

Man Utd 2:1 Leicester New
He's raw and can make a mistake but he can pass the ball well, he's pretty quick and apart from one or two games I've actually been pretty impressed with him.

He was so much better second half when he was being more aggressive, stepping right up to their attackers rather than dropping off.

Some dodgy passes aside, thought he was better than other recent outings tonight.

Yeah I'd agree with that. Looked really up for it second half. Was moving the ball quickly and doing everything with aggression and on the front foot. Looked decent on a couple of forward runs too

Yeah I think the manager really needs his CBs to make those forward runs. Martinez got the hang of it but he’s the only one so far and his season’s over (of fecking course it is). Without them the whole system doesn’t work.

Yeah we desperately need our centre backs to make forward runs to try and create overloads and draw opposition players out of position. I was furious watching the first half when none of the 3 did this at all and everything ended up so static and turgid

I like that he was blocking runners and just making good choices in the final third tonight.

Won a corner when the was surrounded, blocked a few counter attacks just by placing his body into position. Also blocked the defender from getting to Garnacho a few times.

Nothing to rave about, but nice to see that part of his game.

Think people are understating his performance tonight. That second half was downright dominant defensively. I'm not sure if it's instructions or general team play but the structure in general looks far better when those wide CB's aggressively defend and push up instead of constantly dropping off into some dogshit back 5.

Yeah, a passive back paddling back 5 is killing us. It leaves the midfield with acres to cover.
Leny was class second half, he hides the fact he is the youngest player in the squad extremely well

Poor first half, was way too safe with his passing and even then managed to put us under pressure with a couple of them being poor. Much, much better second half. Showed a hell of a lot of pace during that counter-attack that Leicester had from our corner as well.

I wonder if it was due to him switching sides (he was RCB in the first half, LCB in the second), or whether Amorim had simply drilled it into him that he needed to be more aggressive and progressive.

I'd like to see how Yoro does as the middle CB.

Amorim has tried De Ligt there but seems to prefer Maguire and I think De Ligt looks better as the RCB. Shame we lost Martinez because I'd love to have seen

De Ligt - Yoro - Martinez
Atleast tried out. Now I guess we have to wait for Shaw.

Did well in the 2nd half but just like against Sulemana (Soton) he was too passive and IMO he was a key culprit for the goal we conceded. Gave his opponent way too much space to look up and cross the ball, especially since he wasn't marking any space.

His heading able isn't there yet to be the our main areial defender and his long passing isn't great. Those are the reasons why Maguire is the centre CB.

Did brilliantly for the equaliser and that’s probably what Amorim wants from his back three. 1 should always be looking to press and win the ball back quickly high up.

He’s supremely talented that’s for sure. I think his second half yesterday is getting understated abit. That’s the best he’s looked so far for me. Was dominant in his duels, driving with the ball and passing quickly. I can see him being a top top player in the next few years.

I'd like to see a run of games where the back three is:
Maz - RCB. Think his best performances this season have come from this position.
CB - Maguire / de Ligt. Think it's de Ligt long term but Maguire's form is generally getting better.
LCB - Yoro. Looked brilliant when he switched there for the 2nd half last night.

Gutted Martinez is out but Yoro has a huge opportunity now.

The best compliment I can give is that if he continues to play like that second half, we won’t miss Martinez at all. Pace, power, aggressive and he coupled that up with being really high and joining in with attacks. Sure he’ll never be a master passer like Licha but he’s much more of an all rounder. Hopefully more to come

Yeah his best performance.

And really it's just being more aggressive and pro active.

If he keeps that up it'll be a big boost.

I know Harry and Licha get a lot of love on here but I would really like to see a backline that’s big fast and comfortable enough on the ball.

Not having to work around our shortest defender (Licha) or our slowest defender (Harry) would be a breath of fresh air.

Push higher, take risks, go aggressive man for man during spells to offset the other team

Liking the look of him. Young but improving with game time.

So think he needs a faster partner than Harry, who has been decent too. But think it hinders the likes of Yoro and who ever is on the other side as they can't get as forward as they potentially want to because of the break from the opposition and Harrys lack of pace.
