Leighton Baines

Wasn't Fellaini questioned about his contract and said there were clauses by nothing on actual price?

Don't have alink, but a chap PMd me that...

He gave a few Everton fans a lift to the friendly vs Blackburn, they asked him was he going to us and he basically said he didn't know.

Around 1:10, you can just about decipher the question

That looks like one of them "upskirt cams" I see on those websites I'm not supposed to visit.

In between "Leyton, la" and "summat...summat...new playin' style" I think we can conclude he says he can't comment on a possible move. Nice of him to give the lads a lift.

So let me get this straight, he's nice enough to pick these random fans up and give them a lift to the game and they thank him by secretly filming their conversation. Bunch of cnuts.

Would have been funny if he'd of said "yep, I'm outta here faster than than you can say feckton of money and medals".

A former colleague of mine once interviewed a player in the Hungarian league; he asked him if a certain incident was a penalty or not. The player replied "yeah, I kicked the shit out of the guy... but phrase that a bit differently please".

He's more than a player(more than a player)
He's an icon for feck's sake, can't you see?(and he's got sideburns)
So keep on dreaming(price tag increasing)
Till you see Martinez walk away.
I see that Martinez walking away..

Martinez has now actually confirmed that there was a bid from an English club a while ago, but it was basically way off valuation and nothing has been bid since.

Makes you wonder, providing we were the club that made the bid, why we are dicking about with low bids if we genuinely want to sign the player.

Back then, it was rumoured that Evra wanted out. I wouldn't be surprised if he did - with Fergie leaving, I was always expecting a couple of players to leave (strangely it hasn't happened..yet). Evra started out the preseason as if he really didn't care - but I'd say he's back on board now. I'd love Baines if Evra was leaving, but it doesn't seem to be the case now.

I think that's due to SAF himself. I think SAF would've asked the players to stay if they want to 'pay him back' if I can put it that way.

Confirmed by who?

Was flickering between writing "yes" and "sort of". Really it's "sort of". It's as confirmed as it is going to be until there's a direct quote/statement from either club, which will either be at the next press conference either manager has, or, with the way our club has been lately there could be some sort of statement sooner. Who knows.

ok. There seems to be no mention on the BBC website about the source.

The BBC and Liverpool echo articles stink of a leak from Everton.
They must have leaked it to get more bids in if other clubs are interested. They probably are feeling a little hard done by the bid we made and realize that they can't get too much more by selling those two. So trying to bring more potential bidders into the picture

I'd imagine Everton are only too keen to sell secretly.

There won't be a better time to cash in on Baines really.

Ashley Cole must be bricking it too. Once Baines starts doing exactly what he does for Everton, for United, he will be England's first choice left-back.

In terms of Baines age, that is true. In terms of where Everton are, it isn't. It's not exactly ideal to be selling one of your most important players shortly after losing your manager.

It's also not ideal to have no pot to piss in and no window to throw it out off.

30-40 million (which, realistically is where the fee would probably go) would be a major injection for Everton and one they'd be a bit foolish to turn down IMO.

I doubt it. The whole team is designed around Baines. If they had been prepared to sell then it would surely have been early in the window so Martinez could figure out how the team could function without Baines and what he'd need to bring in to replace his assists.

Has there ever been a point that turning down around £40m for the two of them wouldn't have been foolish?

I guess it's more of casing of United getting the players themselves to hand in a transfer request. I would imagine both Baines & Fellani want to make the move to United.

Who knows, I don't really get the point you're trying to make, and I said 30-40.

Of course it's not as if Everton have a history of accepting bids for important players close to the end of the window is it? Hence not selling Arteta to Arsenal for 10million on the last day. :Wenger:

Why wait so late?..... Hmmm maybe when your Balance Sheet looks like theirs, having a lump of cash hanging round when it can be, and supports will want it to be spent, isn't the best option.

Looking at the matches against Wigan and Swansea, there seems to be even more emphasis on Evra attacking as we're not playing with someone regularly as a left winger. It's possible that Moyes sees that position and attacking from that position as so vital, and also taking account Evra's age, and the extra demands on him physically running up and down all the time, that he really feels the need for two quality, proven players.

Cant remember anytime in my life when I have been dead against signing a player until this summer

Now its happened twice. Garay (That’s if we really were ever interested) and Baines.

I like Baines but I simply don’t see the point.

The point I'm making is, whilst I agree they'd be foolish to turn down that amount, I don't think it's a good time for them to sell. I just think that's too much money for Everton to turn down, at any time.

I doubt Everton will sell their two best players in one window, so far that reason, I don't think we have much of a chance of getting Baines.
