I think Rooney will look a much better no10 with Di Maria/Herrera behind him. Whenever he has played there in the past, he's had pretty poor service and typically Welbeck/Chico upfront. Things are very different now, lets see how he performs in this team before we all jump off a bridge yeah?

Blackett has been overrated here, that's definitely.. Per game 3 awful mistakes, imagine him against stronger clubs. There is plenty time for him to be a decent player but now, he can't be near the first 18 in the squad.

Not great that Mata was dropped with the awful form RVP is in. Send bad signals about whether good play is rewarded, or bad play punished.

RvP has definitely not been in good form, but he hasn't been fully fit and it's difficult to expect a striker to just be in great form right off the button. The best way to get a striker back to their best ways is to keep playing them. It may not be ideal because Mata probably doesn't deserve to get dropped in order to let RvP get back to those ways, but we're talking about one of the world's greatest strikers here.

I don't think it's the sin/travesty everyone else does that Mata's being dropped. LvG wants to try to get RvP back to his best. If he succeeds in doing that, we'll be flying. If he doesn't, he won't keep playing him forever.

Called it. Gonna be all smarmy about it now. This is the normal rotation every team must do. You can't sit players of the quality of Januzaj or Falcao on the bench for extended periods. One out of Rooney and Mata had to be dropped. Casualties of an abundance of attacking talent.

Being benched for a one-off game isn't particularly significant. Being benched because our only undroppable player and captain, a man who LvG describes as having 'special privileges' is now more fancied at #10 than he is at #9, is pretty bad news for Mata.

Disappointed to see Mata dropped, not only has he been producing I think he is simply out best role in that position and I think we won't see the same fluidity without him. Rooney can produce there but I've always said that I don't think he can bring people in as well. In fairness though I think Mata has been dropped for RVP who is lucky to still be in.

Still will be interesting to see how the 3 of them play together. No doubt we can still play very well with this line up.
