I'm disappointed Mata was dropped ahead of RVP, but I still think he can hit solid form again so maybe it's not such a bad thing.

However, if he is as poor this week as he has been and he still starts again next week then I will start to ask questions.

I'm delighted Blackett is still in the team, really thought he was going to be dropped this week. He really deserves it with the way he has been playing. But I still can't understand why Shaw isn't starting. I know that contradicts my being happy with Blackett starting as it's hard to fit both of them in the one team, but I still want to see Shaw get a run out so hopefully he comes on at some stage. Maybe Van Gaal still isn't happy with his fitness in training?

Like most on here I'm disappointed that Mata is the one who's had to be benched. I think he's a fantastic player and I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Rvp needs a good game here.

Fancy us to win today though.

Neville couldnt wait to rip in mata.he's boring.

Sad to see mata dropped but people are exaggerating.. its one game,it doesnt mean his days at united are over or sthing..
I thought he actually said the arrival of Di Maria would make Mata a better player. Yes, he didn't want Mata because we already had Rooney, Januzaj, Kagawa in his position, I don't see much wrong with that.

I'd fear that we've guaranteed Mendes and Monaco that Falcao will get a certain number of starts to keep his value up. You don't change a winning team and Mata was on top form last weekend.

3 strikers away from home, none of whom have great work rate leaving no strikers on the bench to bring on. Serious question marks over that imo.

Will the media finally accept that we do actually have a Manchester born player in the senior squad now that Blackett has started his fifth PL match in a row?

Interesting shout. My guess is that most people would have expected RvP to get the chop rather than Mata, who I thought was decent last game. Personally I'm not keen for Rooney to play as number 10.

However the reality is that there's not enough room for everyone up front to play at once, so someone's always going to get the chop. Assuming Rooney always plays, one of Mata, RvP or Falcao will normally be on the bench, and its going to be odd whichever it is.

Rooney hate will be in full swing again :( ,there is 2 things whats issue for Mata, defensive part of his game and 2 up front in current formation.

Front 3 just seems too static and we are even more reliant on Di Maria for creativity now.

It's a system reshuffle, it's not a 'dropping' of Mata? Away from home against a good hustling outfit, I think it's a good tactical decision.

Spot on. We don't even know if Mata is injured. I also like the fact we have more pace in attack adding Falcao for Mata and Rooney moving behind the striker as we might need it today.

I disagree I like mata but rooney can play that role

Can play, but it's hardly ideal. He scores goals, but he still congests the attacks. We're essentially playing with 3 center forwards today. Di Maria and Herrera will have to take care of the playmaking. We'll have to sacrifice even more width than normal with the diamond, but I see no other choice.

I'd much rather have started Mata, with RVP on the bench.

Missed the team prediction to day. Must admit I would have gone with an unchanged team. It will be good seeing what Falcao can do with a full 90 mins. Not a big fan of Rooney at 10, hope he proves me wrong.

Looking forward this. It will be more of a test than last week.

Quite concerned with LVG's faith in Blackett.

    Why?

Considering how he was just thrown into the first team at the deep end he has come out of it with his head held high. He is a little raw still but he Deserves to retain his place.

Based on last week game Mata shouldn't have been dropped. Dunno if I'm a big fan of playing all three of Rooney, Falcao and RVP. If those LVG quotes are true I don't really understand what game he watched because the moment Mata (and Rafa) came off and Rooney switched to Mata's position we played worse.

Get over it .Mata fan boys . Looking forward to this attacking lineup.

Rooney hate will be in full swing again :( ,there is 2 things whats issue for Mata, defensive part of his game and 2 up front in current formation.

When Rooney starts his usual miscontrolling of the ball, people will be crying out for Mata.

People need to relax on Mata front. Just because he is not starting this game and was subbed last time, it doesn't signal his end here. If RvP doesn't show form soon, Mata can easily come in for him. Plus the 2 forwards for us this game are injury prone. One of the 4 is always going to miss out and onus is on those who start to show they deserve that place. All in all, it is great to have the front 3 we have this game AND have likes of Mata and Januzaj on the bench!

How so? Mata is creating and scoring consistently for the team. Van Persie hasn't been doing that lately and should be dropped instead of Mata, it's simple as that.
Mata suffered badly in our last away match against a physical side. He doesn't offer enough when we don't have the ball, which is probably why Rooney's playing in that position today.

Disappointed Mata's not playing. Defense is still a worry but we shall see.

Seems like everyone is having a moan that Mata is not in the starting 11. And if he was playing at the expense of RVP, Rooney or Falcao the same people would still have a moan. Just enjoy the game you miserable souls

Not great that Mata was dropped with the awful form RVP is in. Send bad signals about whether good play is rewarded, or bad play punished.

Front 3 just seems too static and we are even more reliant on Di Maria for creativity now.

You do realise this front three has played a total of 20 minutes together so far?

It's hardly any basis to make any judgements on them is there?

I look at that midfield and attack and see nothing but goals and invention aside from Blind who is there to give us some balance.

Yes Mata has been dropped but we will have to rotate all players to keep them happy.

Jesus, the state of some of you lot here! Mata gets dropped and its as if the world has ended! Just calm the feck down and enjoy the game!
Someone who goes mental at VG staying seated during games wants others to stay calm.

    Bloody hell

Interesting that LvG really has gone for all 3 strikers and actually made the comments on Mata.
