Lassana Diarra

sell gibson, sign Diarra

Why the feck would you waste your time with such a shit bump numb nuts?

Diarra is a player I would like to see at this club and when I see this thread I assume it will have something relevant.

Yep, everytime I see a thread bumped on a midfielder, I get a tad excited.

Thus why I'm not amused at this.

Done deal for Spurs apparently.

Don't see the point in that one. You're well stocked in central midfield aren't you? Or have you picked up injuries to Sandro/Huddlestone?

Also, why on Earth would that be announced at this time on a Saturday night?

How much did you guys pay for him?

I guess he is a replacement for Palacios because I heard Stoke want Crouch and Palacios for around £18m.

Will they let Crouch go though? He still seems to be their first choice striker.

I personally think Harry needs to find a way of getting Defoe back into the side.

Any mention of fees and that? Not sure he's an altogether necessary signing with Huddlestone growing into a fairly important player for Spurs, I thought, as well as Sandro showing some early promise. And he's obviously going to want guarantees of first team football.

Still, he's certainly got the quality to improve the Spurs team and I can't imagine he'd cost a fortune.

There is so much dead wood in that team. Roman and Jenas are the ones who have to leave first. I am so surprised Spurs have not done any deals for players so far. They have not bought or sold anyone. I mean Woodgate leaving on a free and Khumalo arriving is not really transfer news.

Arry' has really fecked up this transfer window imo. He hasn't addressed any of the major problems Spurs have got (i.e a God awful defence and not one quality striker). Yet he's now gone and brought in a player in a position that actually he's already pretty strong in. They'll do well to finish in the Top 5 this season, and havent got a chance of CL football again for a long long time.

A "God awful defence"? Really? Their back 4 is alright I think.

They conceded and awful amount of goals last season, I think someone posted the exact number for all comps in another thread, and it was shockingly bad.

Not all down to the back 4 though. More down to the way they play. Well, that plus having a clown in goal.

He was quality against Barcelona this season, putting in the best performance against Messi that I've seen in a while. He displayed a very tidy passing game also. If this is the sort of performance that he can put in regularly, then he'd be brilliant with Modric.

Not necessarily. Modric is a playmaker while Diarra is a defensive midfielder. If anything it would mean the end for Palacios.
Exactly so. Modric is staying and Palacios is going ... so Diarra is an upgrade on the latter. It's all quite straightforward, with nothing for Modric-transfer muppets to get excited about.

Roman and Jenas would be considered as proper deadwood if Spurs was a club who aimed to regularly qualify for the Champions league. It's just that these 2 players who are okish, perfectly suit the current Spurs

He would be a good improvement over Palacios, who I presume will be sold by Spurs now. They still want a striker and a center back though.

He'd be a great signing for Spurs. He's definitely an upgrade on Palacios and a good alternative to what they already have. Give him regular games and he'll produce in the Premier League.

That's not hard, seeing as Fergie almost never plays with anyone in the "dm" role

And the reason for that is we don't have anyone, that's why he was so keen to get Hargreaves back. With no dm in the squad we are always going to struggle away from home against the lower teams. Like it or not we need a player who gets the ball back and plays the easy ball to Carrick or Anderson, to retain possession or play a killer ball.

Hargreaves who couldnt get into the team in CM and had to make do with wide roles at right back and right midfield?

A fit Hargreaves would have played most matches away from home in the dm role.

Diarra to Spurs? I think a combination of Diarra and Modric in the centre is better than anything we could offer in midfield. Whilst I prefer Carrick's style of play, I wouldnt argue that Diarra is probably a better player than him.

Diarra a better player than Carrick?
The trend of over-rating La Liga player continues.

CL last 16 and big PL games

Chelsea home: Injured
Arsenal away: CM
Liverpool away: CM
Arsenal FA Cup: Didn't play (available)
Lyon away: CM
Lyon home: Subbed on late
Liverpool home: Didn't play (available)
Roma away: Subbed on late
Roma home: RW
Arsenal home: CM
Barca away: RB
Chelsea away: Subbed on late
Barca home: RB
Chelsea CL Final: RW

So 14 big games, he missed 3, started 8, started 4 in centre mid/defensive mid.

Nah I don't think it's just La Liga, there's probably some people who think Parker's better than Carrick for the same reasons - they actually look like they're doing something, running around like a headless chicken is an admirable quality. Apparently.

Ah ok, so because I rate a player from another league I'm overrating him. Good one. feck off. Michael Carrick's form has been seriously inconsistent over the last 18 months or so. The Carrick of 2007-09 is a better player than Diarra; no arguements there, so maybe you should try and remember that the Carrick we're talking about now struggles to get in the England team ahead of the likes of Parker and Barry and continues to divide opinion among fans. For what its worth, I'm a fan of Carrick, although I wasnt aware that I'm not allowed to say other players are better than him (or in better form). I'll bear than in mind.

Its so fecking annoying when people on here start generalising other posters.

Raises and interesting point - if Fergie "never plays with a defensive midfield player" why did he spend a fortune on Hargreaves?

Most clubs have a player of that type - a destroyer who can put himslef about oin midfield, even Barca with Busquets.

Instead we persist with playing Carrick out of position in a role he's probably not best suited for.

I agree with that.

I personally think that had Hargreaves been fit he'd have been on of the first names on Fergie's team sheet for certain games and would have played most games most seasons.

Its a real shame he's been so unlucky.
