Yeah, mind boggling how one particular name in attack hasn't been picked up yet

there are two strikers that are top class and yet to be picked....thats why we waited so long with Kluivert, lots of backup choices.

Hugely influential in Werder Bremen's understated team of the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s, libero Bratseth was three-times Norwegian Player of the Year and was named the country's greatest ever player by the Norwegian FA. Duelled with Jurgen Kohler for the Bundesliga's best defender in Kicker magazine's ratings, ranking first in 1988/89 and 1992/93, and second (behind Kohler) in 1987/88. One of his biggest fans was the Kaiser who, as West German manager in 1990, told the sweeper that had he been German, he'd have been starting for the XI that won Italia '90.

FIFA World Cup 1994 Technical Report said:
Rune Bratseth showed that he was the clear leader of the team. He plans to retire from the international scene and take up the position of manager of the Norwegian club side Rosenberg Trondheim . It was he who held the team together and was instrumental in seeing that the coach's tactics were carried out on the field.

He said similar things about Ásgeir Sigurvinsson that had he been German he would have been their captain.

Heh, quite the compliment, that.

But I have no doubt he meant it. Very interesting - and excellent, IMO - pick.

From what I remember he was an unusual player in the sense that he was both more agile and considerably faster than you'd expect given his size (he was a big bastard). He was brilliant in the air too, IIRC. And a highly intelligent player to boot.

Nice. Looks a lot like my Blankenburg pick

am I the only one that doesn't rate Riquelme that high? :nervous:(and probably LvG :D)

He striked me as always someone to wane under pressure(that arse missed penalty in the CL, games against Brazil and in the national side). He was Villareal best player and made them tick but was always a bit underwhelming at the biggest stage and a little lazy on top of that. But I saw it's tuppet that he picked him, so we'll save it for the game.

Get the feck out.

He absolutely carried little Villareal to the semi final of the CL, and in the same year was the undoubted star of the World Cup with the Argies walking it until one of the most retarded substitutions i've ever seen.

If you play him in the right setup and build a team around him he is the dogs bollocks. The most elegant player i've ever seen, and the best at seeing and executing a through pass i've seen. A legend of the game.

That's the thing you need to set up the stage for him to shine. You need a lot hardworking players around him, because as his fame grew he was even less bothered. I think he hit his peak at Boca when they won the Copa Libertadores, he grew into his game with age as he didn't have much speed to begin with anyway?

If you don't have the right setup he'd be kind of a luxury player. Not saying he lacked the ability, none like that, IMO he lacked the mentality to establish himself on the highest level.

I can see that he's your favorite player, but to me he lacked consistency mentally in the big games and when the pressure was on him and the chips were down he usually faded away.

Otherwise on his day he was a great player, very elegant and great range of passing, but he didn't have that in him to raise the level of those around him what truly great players had.

But since Tuppet has picked him we will have plenty of time to discuss it in the match thread.

Bastard. I've had my eye on him since the start of the draft. Very interesting player and largely forgotten, which is why drafts like this make such a nice change of pace from the usual all-time pools. Ah well, you'll do him justice and you may have stopped me from foisting some suicidal game plan on @Skizzo
