La Liga 2013-2014

I'm really really worried that we need to score 5 goals on Tuesday :nervous:

Despite being a Barcelona fan, I just can't wait for the game on Tuesday, the first time I am so eagerly awaiting a non-Barcelona fixture. The first match was sheer quality through and through.

I know he'll probably want his hattrick but I'd get him off right now, we can't risk losing him at this stage.

The interesting one for you guys is whether Ancelotti will stick with Ronaldo/Benzema up front or whether he'll revert to their normal Ronaldo/Bale/Benema combination. Tactics Vs galacticos for Ancelotti!

I'm more worried about Pep being a stubborn idiot than about Ancelotti's dilemma. They can hurt us with both formations :(

Bale can easily hurt Bayern on the counter, but in the first leg, he blew two excellent counters for Madrid by being selfish and clumsy at the same time...

Playing Müller would be a good start to make me feel more confident.

Well, that means benching Mandzukic who is superior with aerial play to Muller. There are always tough dilemmas when you have lots of good players. Maybe Mandzukic will start, score a header from a corner kick, and then everyone will be saying what a genius Pep is. Or Muller may start, Madrid score on one of their counters and Muller will be seen as a bad choice. Or the exact opposite may happen, Muller proving a match winner etc...

My point here is that it is always possible to retroactively play this game.

The first goal in the Bayern match will be crucial. They will definitely score, but if we remain calm and get our goal they will be under so much pressure. We can definitely go there and score twice and we have shown that we can limit the amount of chances and goals teams score against us when we want to this year. Damn it I am so nervous, this stage of the cl as well as the final are the most nerve wrecking :nervous:

The match on Tuesday night is the final for my money.

4-0 Carvajal

Great ball by Isco.

This probably sounds extremely cocky and might come back to bite me but I think malapapper is right. The winner of Bayern vs Real is a big favourite for the CL.

I don't see Atletico or Chelsea stopping either of us at the moment.

Those teams aren't under the pressure we are. Their fans and media will celebrate them simply getting to the final. They will both put ten men behind the ball and frustrate us. It will be a hard fought match for whoever gets to the final between us and Bayern. We certainly wouldn't be putting 4 or 5 past them if we get there as they will be defending like animals the entire match. Bayern or us would definitely be favourites though

Certainly the favourites but saying the semi-final is the final is just ignorant. For some reason malappapper has been writing Atlético off all season (well, since I joined the newbs anyway) though, so they'll probably prove him wrong again.

Are you willing to put money on it? Because I am.
I don't like betting, so no. It feels like it's Atletico's year and somehow I wouldn't mind if they'd win it. 40 years after we 'stole' the European Cup from them with that last minute equaliser in extra time after Aragonés scored for them in the 114th minute, now the year Aragonés died, they'll finally win it. No one will defend the title, no manager will win his 3rd CL title, Real have to wait a while for their 10th. It's Atletico's year and they probably deserve it the most.

/edit:
They also kicked Barca out. When was the last time someone won the CL without beating Barca?

I don't think Bayern with Guardiola will win against Simeone, and especially not against Mourinho. Chelsea will park the bus 100 x better than we did. RM however will have a great chance against both, Atleti and Chelsea.

Chelsea and Atletico aren't anything like as terrifying on the counter attack though.

Neither were we under Moyes, but even then we created a couple of good chances at OT while they had all the possession and hardly created anything.

I am not saying it's a 100% certainty, but either Real or Bayern will be hot, hot favourites for me in the final. It's no secret of course that football can always surprise, but that is exactly what it will be, a massive surprise, if Chelsea or Atletico win the final. Chelsea I will also add, have a significant advantage for the upcoming semifinal since they will be fielding a B-side against Liverpool tomorrow.

If we go through to the final, then we survived Real's counterattacks and I'm sure those are on a different level to Atletico's and Chelsea's.

2007 and AC Milan. Liverpool beat us in the Last 16 (on away goals) and subsequently became finalists.

Yes, but Real's bus is not as big as Atletico's and especially not as big as Chelsea's! It could be 2012 final all over again, and this time with Mourinho.

Do you have a hard-on for Mourinho? The inconvenient fact is that Chelsea parked their biggest buses when Mourinho was not their manager. 2009 + 2012.

Edit: Plus the main reason Mourinho has a good chance of making the final is that Atletico chase a league title against all possible odds, while Jose blew his title chase to smithereens...

@ malappaper: Well I know you are a Barca fan and how you defended Bayern's uninspiring display against Real, but Guardiola's team has struggled in the past against Mourinho's stubborn teams. I am the last person who wants to see Chelsea win, therefore I am hoping for Real in the final as I would have much more confidence in them beating Chelsea than in Bayern.

Jeez, if you read my past posts you would find out that I am not a fan of Mourinho, but I just don't see the combination of Chelsea and Mourinho losing against a Guardiola team in a CL final.
