Kylian Mbappe | PSG

I said a few times here the only 5 players with 17 or 18 years I can remember who were much better than the others with the same age were Fat Ronaldo, Cristiano, Messi and maybe Henry. It was clear from watching him with France under 19's in 2016 he was playing a different game than the others. He will be better than Henry, probably Cristiano and who knows how he will compare with R9 and Leo when he has finished his carrer. Oh and having Tuchel managing him is great too. Forgot to mention Neymar with the same age of course.

Henry?

He was a late bloomer compared to Mbappe. Mbappe scored more in his debut season than Henry did in 4 1/2 seasons at Monaco from the age of 17 to 21.

Henry struggled to get going in Serie A for Juve and was shifted on to Arsenal where he obviously kicked on massively.

Mbappe hit the ground running and has barely stopped for breath.

Henry wasn't a late bloomer. He was very well known with 17 or 18 years for those who watch youth football. He only had a problem when he left Monaco for Juventus. He was quite good with Trezeguet under Tigana. Of course his explosion was under Wenger at Arsenal, but the potential was already there. Only gave a few examples.

Just on that, Henry played 6 months for Juve. He didn't struggle to get going, he was played as a wingback and then quickly sold. This was 200% on Juventus.

135 games. 67 goals. 37 assists. Unreal player. What struck me was his selflessness for the fourth goal he tried to give it to Neymar. Unreal quality and intelligence along side being a team player. We have a young talent the same age who is praised for taking random shots and not squaring the ball, missing sitters and trying to be the man. We need more quality and less of this try hard nonsense with players who lack ability.

And Ancelotti.

You're right.

At the age of 17, he was already an outstanding talent, playing as left-winger, SF of the Champions League against Juve in 97 IIRC

He played for Juve only 6 months and I thought he was deployed as left-wing back in a 3-5-2 system IIRC.

Same bracket in terms of talent for me: Henry more brilliant/creative but M'bappé more powerful/killer

Yup I watched him in 97 at the old Alvalade stadium for a Champions League game we won 3:0 where their front 3 was Trezeguet/Ikpeba and Henry. A few months earlier Portugal lost a Toulon tournament final where their front 3 was Henry Trezeguet and Anelka and ours was Edgar Carlitos and Boa Morte. Fair to say the other 3 were slightly better.

For the record, Welbeck has scored 80 career goals to date so Mbappe's still got some catching up to do

Don’t put too much on his young shoulders now. Being compared to R9 is one thing, but Welbeck? He’s about as clinical as they come

You really have Henry as more creative than Mbappe? I don't remember Henry well enough prior to his 20 years old appearances with France in the WC but Mbappe is pretty damn creative for his age already and has the technical ability to tee up his teammates with chips and crosses consistently.

One thing I hope for is that he stays as relatively healthy as Henry did for most of his career. Being such quick players, going full speed, and getting roughed up is a recipe for disaster but Henry managed and so far Mbappe as well but it's still very early. I can only see injuries stopping him from challenging for the top individual awards soon.

Henry was more. But Mbappé decision making is not far from Neymar or Messi level.

Henry was obviously brilliant, but he wasn't as good at his age. I'd rather name Rooney in that list of outstanding teenagers.

True also forgot Rooney. It was a different type of player to watch, but he looked he could create chaos on his own at Euro 2004.

He's different Gravy, another 4 in the bank tonight, he's got something like 30 goals in 50 games for PSG already..

Tbh Henry probably never played in a team as good as this current PSG when he was 19.

That PSG forward line is like Henry playing with Figo (Neymar) and Vieri (Cavani) back in 1999 and in a league they are clearly the best team.

He was playing with Trezeguet up front though, there are worse players to play with.

And they went into the Champions League semifinal in 98 with Tigana and with Trezeguet he won the WC that Summer. Not bad. I would dispute Rooney was more talented than him, but these changes regarding our own football tastes.

Henry scored 7 goals in 9 games with Monaco in the CL ( season 97-98 ). Few months later he won the WC...

He wasn't a late blomer even if Anelka or Ronaldo where better than him at that time.

The best part is Neymar will be in his shadow as well

They've both scored eight goals in the league this season but with Mbappe being suspended for three games, he's scored his in nearly half the time.

Kylian Mbappe 2018/19
League: 8 goals, 3 assists in 404 minutes
Champions League: 2 goals, 1 assist in 166 minutes
Total: 10 goals, 4 assists in 570 minutes

Neymar 2018/19
League: 8 goals, 3 assists in 712 minutes
Champions League: 3 goals, 1 assist in 172 minutes
Total: 11 goals, 4 assists in 884 minutes

and three of Neymar's goals were penalties. Neymar's record is very good but Mbappe is already starting to overshadow him.

Here's a Bulgarian rap on Mbappe (from r/soccer).

It's too soon to say that given that Mbappe scored 4 goals yesterday after Lyon went down to 10 men.

If you look at their Champions League record this season then Neymar is doing better, although its a very small sample.

True but PSG were also down to 10 men, so wasn't like they had a man advantage. Either way, what a front three they have. Neymar's Instagram has a few pics of him and Mbappe so I'm sure they get on well.

PSG also had only 10 men, so that point is moot, however still too soon to call as you say.

Is Mbappe really starting to overshadow him? Neymar is still comfortably the better footballer IMO in terms of overall game, i although i haven't watched the last few PSG matches.

I cannot even say that it will be exciting to see him when playing and hopefully compete for the WC  PSG invested well in him.
One of the most intelligent (during interviews) players I have seen too

He was very good but Neymar was a level above everyone yesterday.

Yeah, Neymar was just on point with pretty much anything he attempted yesterday. Before scoring his first goal, Neymar gave Mbappé 3 amazing assists (that Mbappé kinda ruined).

I really don't think Neymar is overshadowing Mbappé because it allows Neymar to show that on top of being a great scorer, he also has one of the best passing quality in the world (in my opinion, he's top 3 with Kroos and Messi).
On top of that, they both seem to get along very, very well.

It's a little more complicated with Cavani though.

I don't watch an awful lot of mbappe except for highlights -

How is he on the left? I ask that because we obviously went through a period where right footed wide players play on the left to get them to use their stronger foot.

Would he become better at doing that or is it better that he is on the RW playing as a player that is truly rare in that position?
