Kylian Mbappe | PSG

Outstanding? Really? France barely did anything in attack from what I remember.

Mbappe also was non existent in the final until the ref screwed Croatia over.

He's a terrific young player but people do overhype his influence/performances.

Then you don't remember the game very well, he set up Giroud a bunch of times. Created six chances, three more than second highest who was Hazard with 3. He was non-existent in the first half of the final, the refs had nothing to do with his goal or the impact he had in the second half. This isn't overhype, it's just facts. Now those saying he is just as good as Neymar, that's definitely overhype. Neymar is still recovering to this day, so maybe Mbappe is doing as well as he is right now but I expect Neymar to show he is the second/third best player in the world this season once he's fully recovered.

This is insane. Cannot imagine how good he's going to be.

Just got sent off as well?

First of his career, even if Nimes was hacking at him a lot, he can't react like that. It's only going to get worse for him as he ascends in world football....gotta get used to the bruises and knocks and keep your cool, young man.

It's his second red for Paris as he was already sent off for a nasty stamp in a cup last season after VAR.

Of course he shouldn't have reacted like that but on the other hand I can understand his frustration as the same guy litterally punched him in the face during first half out of nowhere and nothing happened except Mbappé getting a yellow for protesting despite VAR being available.

Oh yeah, completely forgot about that, thanks. I get it, I know he was very frustrated but the thing is, that sort of treatment is only going to get worse for him because he's becoming a real danger for any team so they're going to try all kinds of provocation to get him off the field and if he responds like that, it's only going to encourage other teams to do the same. He looks up to CR7, he needs to learn to respond to the provocation and hard fouls the way the Portuguese has his whole career.

The instantaneous transition from mortally injured death roll to pseudo hard man handbags is the most annoying thing about that clip.

It's not like he milked it a la Neymar, you get hit like that on the side of the leg at full speed, you're going down.

On another note, I loved the Neymar celebration for his goal, anyone got a clip of that?

His talent is clear as day, I absolutely love that he’s got an aggressive streak in him too. That bit of fire in the belly is what takes a player to another stratosphere.

Cristiano spent his whole career having petulant outbursts, elbowing and kicking opponents several times a season, so does Neymar, so did Zidane, that didn't prevent them from having great careers but obviously you should try to keep reds to a minimum.

I still blame the referee who completely lost the plot, to his defense the game was a bit tricky but he should display more interest in the protection of the physical integrity of players or they will want to do justice themselves.

CR7 is definitely petulant, but when he was at Manchester United, I don't think I've seen too many player get treated more roughly than he was and he managed to keep his cool for the most part. Of course, every one is going to react at some point but all I'm saying is that this sort of reaction is only going to breed more of the same treatment for him from opposing teams. The referee definitely botched that up, completely agree with you there but then again, I can't stand Ligue 1 referees for the most part.

That's a great way to get back at them, cheers!

Meh, i get that he goes too far with his reaction but come on, it was just a push. Should have been yellow, not straight red

Agree but It doesn't change much since he was already on a yellow. Anyway no French ref would miss an opportunity to show a soft red card to a PSG star and earn easy popularity points.

He should be like Hazard and take getting kicked as an achievement.

Apparently that Savanier person hit Mbappe in the first half and nothing was done. Needs to keep calm - was only a minute left of the game.

Kylam!! He tried to right him off. I don't blame him.

Mbappé on his red card:
"It's just an accumulation of things, it's football you have to learn when you play in this kind of club to pass over because it's every weekend like that so if I get mad every weekend, I'm going to take several reds so you have to go over that... It's the last hit... I don't think it has anything to do on a football field but, well, it's not serious, the referee made a choice and as I said you have to go above that, the Paris Saint-Germain is above that, we're above that."

He then went back to his goal, which allowed PSG to regain the lead.
"It's a nice sequence, we tried to work on this kind of situation in training where I arrive at full speed and then move quickly, that's what I realized today and I'm happy. It's a good start to the season from the team, even the staff. I think that last year I always had to be good to score, this year it's a bit better, there I didn't have to be good to score so it means that I passed a cape on that point. As I said, we want to be a great team and a great team must learn never to doubt, even if there are difficulties and we have had some, but we come out with victory and that is the most important."

Mbappé then explained that he did not regret his gesture. "No, no, no. And if I had to do it again, then I would do it again. And I'll apologize to the fans and everyone, but I can't tolerate that kind of gesture."

He finally returned to the game and did not take off on the gesture of the Nimes player. "The atmosphere? It was only today, there were many fouls, many tackles. It was new this season. We have to have several systems, that's to the coach's credit, we'll try to put all the means in place to make his tactics work. But this kind of thing, I can not tolerate, the same foul if he plays the ball, there is no problem, there is no intention to play the ball. But it's okay, I'll go to the commission and defend myself."

Very good first half from him, love watching this guy play!

Can we buy him please?

If you have 300M laying around, that can be sorted out. He's still dwelling a bit on the ball sometimes but this has to be a huge season for him, PSG has to get one step further in Europe.

I think he is going to absolutely going to destroy Liverpool’s back line. Looking forward to watching that :D

Giving the ball to him was the entirety of France's plan tonight. Once or twice it looked like it could work.

He can probably be even better in the future, yes, but he was still one of the best players on the pitch tonight.

300m would be worth it.

Took his goal well tonight. It was incredible how isolated he was, though. PSG players would rather find an uninterested player on the other side of the pitch than pass to him.

Very difficult game to look great in but he was still decent. PSG players failed to find his runs on the counter.

Stupid mistake for the 3-2 but good game for him nevertheless, his CL record is fantastic

Was handled very well by Robertson/ Milner tonight, but even then managed to produce some flashes of brilliance. He'll learn from his mistake. Still think PSG is the wrong club for him.

Neymar on the other hand...

Gave away the ball terribly for Liverpools winning goal as well though.
Had that been Martial he would have been castigated on the Caf.
He is going to be a great player one day if he doesnt take to many lessons from that uninterested player across the pitch, you have a point there....

He got the goal but was poor otherwise. Only 33 touches. 64% pass completion, 3 unsuccessful touches and 3 dispossessions adds up to a lot of giving the ball back to the opposition, not least when he cost PSG the game at the end.

True, Martial would have been castigated but if Martial was playing like Mbappe for the past two years I'm sure United fans would have given him a pass for this game.

Now, Neymar really pissed me off and I don't even like PSG. How can you lose the ball then just chill there while your mates ahead of you pass you running to chase it etc?

He was like I'm gonna chill here let me know when you get it back.

It is amazing that people simply don't care. He's really good but he has much more flaws to his game than the players he gets compared to. Not completely sure about Cristiano, but Ronaldo Lima, Messi and Neymar were much better in tight spaces and ball retention than him. He has these occasional flashes of technical brillance, usually in form of skill moves, but far too often his technique is not on point and he loses balls and easy passes way too easy.

I get that he's a completely likeable guy and still really youngbut it is astonishing how people get blinded by their sympathy. If Neymar had played like that he would've received so much gloating.

Got PSG level, and then lost them the game...but in reality, the team never deserved to get away with a point there. He'll learn from his mistake, I don't buy that he's learning bad habits from Neymar, it's just his youth showing up. What I did like is that he really only had one semi-real chance and he took it ruthlessly. However, PSG are at least one season away from even being competitive right now in Europe. Tuschel's system is flawed in its personnel and without some defending from the wings he's never going to get his team playing worthy football against the big dogs of Europe.

His style reminds me of Ronaldo Nazario, but his dribbling at times can be a bit loose.
