He's not talking about winning trophies, he's talking about developing and giving playing time to young players. He's always done that way past 2004. The thing with Mbappe is that he wants to play most of the games, to be in the Champion's League, and he wants to win every competition. Arsenal are not the club that springs to mind for those goals. I thought PSG would have a chance, given he's from Paris and his family had been there all their lives, including his little brother, but they all already made the move to Monaco now, and I don't see Monaco selling him to PSG given how they were willing to overpay on Fabinho and they refused to give a rival a player like him, so Mbappe definitely seems set to stay in Monaco one more season, with a bumper deal, and then it'll be another summer of madness but he won't go for a world-record fee next year IMO (unless he tears the world cup apart).

I do find it funny that in response to a joke about a time machine, every player you listed is now around 30 years of age minimum.
I do get the point though that a couple of years playing for arsenal is not the end of the world for younger players and Wenger is a part of that appeal. Trick is knowing when to move on and not wasting away like some of their current lot.

You know there's been a lot of talk about me blablabla I've thought a lot with my family blablabla and I've decided next year to... play with the Mercurial Vapors!
I just don't see Monaco having the same kind of season coming up. Especially if Mendy, Lemar, and Fabinho follow Silva out the door. They've made solid recruitments, but it took those other guys 2-3 years and PSG having an awful start to become champions and go this far in the CL. I'm 99% certain Monaco will not win the league again, or even get past 1/4 finals in the CL. I hope I'm proven wrong, but it takes time to replace half or 3/4 of your key players. Also, Mbappe is now a known name, defenders will be looking out for him. I don't think they'll be able to really stop him regardless, but a striker without a coherent team is going to be affected and unless he takes the world-cup by storm, I'm certain Monaco will not get the kind of offers they're getting this summer.
City could well get him if they are deetermined. I could see them offering mega money to him.
