Thought he would wait for a season before making the jump.

Hope he doesn't get treated like Renato though..

Implying what exactly?

Sanches got minutes, he just turned out to be shit.

If this is true, I hope the kid will be fine. Imagine the pressure?!

He does look amazing and if he succeeds they have a world class player for the next 15 years, but this fee is just bonkers.

A bigger surprise in this transfer window would be hearing of a fee that isn't bonkers!

160 fecking million:lol: Jesus wept.

You've got to be fecking kidding me. The transfer market has gone bonkers
I'm sitting on top of a beautiful mountain and all I can think is get the feck out of here. It's bat shit crazy.

Indeed. It's obscene.

With all the money the clubs clearly now have, couldn't they have done something better like slashing ticket price etc? Instead it all goes into the transfer merry-go-round and into making a handful of agents obscenely wealthy.

£143-160m.

Real fans can never again say United simply overpaid to bring Pogba in.

The market is really insane. I think it is a fair value for him in this market given the insane sums us, City and other Premier league teams have payed for players. He has insane talent, but maybe it is a bit early to know he will be a world star already.

That's a lot of pressure for a kid.

Real Madrid would be hard to turn down though - for any player, at any age.

If it was true, Monaco should ask for the entire fee upfront and book him a flight ticket.

There is no way this is a fair value for a kid who has had half a good season under his belt, even in the current market. He has shown promise but the figures touted are not just over the top, they are stupid and unfortunately is further evidence of just how mental football is getting.

Mbappe is worth over 2 X Lukakus? Mental.

I don't really see why this is that mental.

M'bappe is 6 years younger and has the potential to be a Balon D'or winner. I say potential because I can only see a move at this stage in his career being catastrophic to his development though.

Lukaku is a good player and he does a great job but he is a little bit one dimensional. M'bappe has pace, power, finishing, passing and good vision and is a child.

People keep saying £196m for Neymar is crazy. He is a top 5 player in the world and is 25. He is also probably the most marketable player in world football right now. If Ronaldo was £80m when he went why isn't Neymar £196 now? Granted, Ronaldo was better but the market has exploded.

If Kyle Walker sells for £50m, John Stones £50m. Higuain £88m. Pogba £89m (siggy £45m!!!) why isn't Neymar or M'bappe worth what is being quoted.

In the same way I would say Kane should be valued at about £130m right now.

Jesus! What a ridiculous fee and yes...the market has gone mad.

But the silly side of me is so very envious...
Yep.. I always moan about transfer fees but if United Spent 160 Million on Mbappe I'd be so excited and happy  ohwell maybe we'll spend 180 million on Dembele next summer :wenger:

Morata+Danilo+65=Mbappé, It doesn't look so bad seeing it in this way.
The best thing is that he'd have agreed 7m€net, reasonable for someone new in the dressing room.
The bad part...as someone wrote in Marca "imagine that he becomes Robinho"

At his age. I cannot see a situation in which M'bappe doesn't flop.
He looks a great player and possible Balon D'or winner but he does not have the innate talent of someone like Messi, Maradona, Zidane etc and so I think he can only go so far. This transfer fee would absolutely SMASH the record and there would be so much pressure.

He has a few bad games and would be out of the team. He would be booed by the Real fans etc.

with that kind of fee and with the fans at Real he cannot afford to have a bad period.

Even Ronaldo, their key player in the last 4 years. The man who has scored the most unbelievable amount of goals for them gets booed. Imagine what they would do to this kid.

Mbappe is the most sought after striker in the world. If players like Sigurdsson are being chased by mid-table clubs for £45m, and full backs are going for £50m a pop, then Mbappe's (supposed) fee is totally in line with that.

I guess it's the state of the transfer market right now.

By the time Lukaku was 18 (Mbappe's age), he already had two full seasons under his belt and had scored 44 goals (albeit in a weaker league). He then moved to Chelsea for roughly £10 million.

In comparison Mbappe has had one and a bit seasons, scoring 27 goals - which is mighty impressive considering he was scoring in the CL as well.

He might be showing all these traits but I just cannot see how buying Mbappe for £160 million and putting the weight of expectation on him of scoring 20+ goals every season can be healthy for a player of his age.

We talk like Lukaku is an OAP but he would still be classed as a youngster. He's only 24, a baby in striking terms yet to approach his peak.

As good as Mbappe is/ could be, the fees being quoted and the circus following him is only going to do more harm than good to his career. Let the boy flourish and develop a couple more years in Monaco without any pressure. This is unlikely though.

Agree it's the transfer market that's spiralled out of control, but I think it isn't healthy for footballers in general.

He does looks a young player with best talent of this world, and just had a great season. But still 160m for a 18 year old kid with only 1 full season playing in France, who is relatively "unproven" is insane.

Too soon to compare his talent with Zidane and others.
Bernabéu will treat him well. For his age and especially for his attitude, that looks great

Well he's 6 years younger with the potential to be twice as good, so its not that mental when you break it down like that...

Potential means nothing. The kid has had half a good season in his career. He could become a world beater or he could just as easily buckle under the pressure. Maybe last season was his purple patch that he will never be able to replicate again. People go on and on about 'potential'. Yes he COULD be the best thing since sliced bread but he COULD also be a total duff signing. If Real are willing to spend that amount of cash on what is perhaps the biggest gamble ever made in football then fair play to them, but I think they are incredibly stupid.

The bad part...as someone wrote in Marca "imagine that he becomes Robinho"

After Bale was singed too early, Florentino thinks Mbappe can be the player to take over from Ronaldo on and of the pitch.

People will say it's too much money but if it works out, 5 years from now we will be reading the same comments we're reading now about Ronaldo moving from United to Madrid.

If it doesn't work out, people will laugh, he'll be sold for peanuts and life will go on. This is not some third level club putting all of it's eggs in one basket hoping for a miracle. It's Real Madrid. We'll take a hit financially and move on to next targets.

This seems like Flo breaking the record after winning the election. Cristiano in 2009, Bale in 2013, and Mbappe in 2017. I wouldn't worry about price, I bet some, probably more, is coming from Flo's pocket. He'll probably have a good laugh while he signs Mbappe and Barca lose Neymar.
