With people saying he needs to do it consistently so we know he's not a one season wonder....didnt a lot say that about kane
The thing is, if he goes on and does have an excellent season again even the most stupid football managers will know what he is worth.
The true mastery is to identify such a talent without having the data of two seasons.

We're already past the point of being a genius now, securing Mbappe is all about the £££ and guaranteed playing time. Even a blind person can see the guy's talent.

some people just see the goals and think it's a flash in the pan, but his game is ALREADY at the top level. He isn't going to lose his movement and anticipation, unless he has a major injury his speed will be there. He isn't just a Walcott who is quick in a straight line, he's agile and has quick feet, minipulates the ball well with ball rolls and step overs etc.

What makes me laugh is people think he needs 1 more season at Monaco, all we have is rashford as a striker? Even if he plays half of our games that's still going to be 30 minimum. Both he and rashford could happily play together, and IMO they could go on to be the new Yorke and Cole, it would be bloody exciting.

I don't mind if we break the world record get him and RashFord with ibrahimovic for 1 more year, goals sorted. Play a 433.

United would be mad to offer a world-record fee for an 18 year-old.

For a start it's a lot easier to score goals in Ligue 1 as compared to the Prem - and even then 15 league goals in 29 appearances is not especially spectacular, although I acknowledge he's also scored 11 other goals in domestic cup and European competitions.

Secondly, it's just one season. If United had their time again with the Martial fee, would they still commit to paying up to £58m for him?

IMO you'd be well advised to exercise a bit more caution and focus either on proven consistent excellent players, or to take some punts on good prospects who will cost a lot, lot less.

Last sentence nailed it.

Eh? No it means he thinks that it's well above Mbappe's value. That's why he's not sure if Arsenal are the ones who are stupid for bidding such a high amount or if Monaco are stupid for rejecting such a high amount.

I know what he thinks it means but think of the logic involved in that statement.

Arsenal would be dumb to pay that much for him (because he is not worth that much) and are therefore dumb. Monaco would be dumb to accept

We blew our load on Rooney in the same way 13 years ago and that worked out ok (for 8/9 years anyway). He's a special talent, if you can't spend your money on exciting talent you might as well go home.

It's difficult though for top teams like United. The reason these talents emerge at clubs like Monaco, Atletico etc is because they are under less pressure to win and win regularly and immediately. Not every talented player fulfils his potential and to try to bed in players who may or may not perform is a risk and also sacrifices immediate results.

Look at Memphis, he was a young talent but got almost no time to develop because he didn't perform immediately. Rashford did however so he is being played but if Rashford didn't immediately score goals would he ever get a run in the team? United just can't afford to drop points in order to develop talent and that's why we pay 100m for Mbappe next summer rather than 1 or 2 seasons ago for much cheaper.

Imagine Pogba pinging one of his passes to KM in full flight. Fecking devastation!!

If KM were to sign for United, the devastation would be in the dressing room as he goes batshit mental unable to believe his luck.

This guy is insanely talented, look what he is doing at 18 on the biggest stage.

He is the exact profile of player we associate with Manchester United. Young, potential, fearless, powerful, rapid and most importantly an expectional player on the rise. We should throw everything we have at securing this guy and make him our number 1 target. We need this kind of player in our armoury.

The martial comparisons are lazy, he has never produced anything similar to this level with his numbers or performances.

To say him and rashford are too similar is madness, they both have similar attributes but what they share would allow us to add a new impetus to our game.

Did you watch Martial last season?

Mbappe is a superb prospect, but he also has the benefit of playing a much better and much more attacking team, and in a weaker league. Stick the Martial of last year in that Monaco team and he'd produce similar numbers.

Amazing how quickly some people forget. Martial was outstanding last season, and carried our attack on his shoulders at times.

We have already seen Martial play for Monaco. He was not as good as Mbappe has been.

I said the Martial of last season. People were talking about him as a future Ballon d'Or winner. And now, because he's had a more difficult season at 20/21 years old (yet still racking up 8 goals and 6 assists), in a defensive team that can't score goals and with close to zero support from his full back, he's suddenly not all that anymore?

If we bought Mbappe I genuinely think that in a year or two people here would be talking about selling him.

This. Probably want to sign the next future ballon d'Or winner from Monaco.

I still rate Martial. And that is just the nature of the beast. People were even against Pogba and Zlatan at points this season.

Nature of the beast in general or specifically for this club? You're in New York...after the season KP had where, by conventional stats, he took a step back are people clamoring for him to be traded? I really feel the shortsightedness is magnified here.

This guy would do well to stay another year in Monaco rather than moving around. Its the market that is making him a player in crazy demand. A few years ago, you would have seen clubs waiting for him a develop a bit more at least. We definetely would'nt have seen rumours of 100 million. He is special, but should wait for his turn of super stardom.

Sadly that has been a topic on sports talk radio.

Developing talent involves the risk - not the certainty - of dropping points. In any case, the notion that United can less afford to drop points than other teams in developing talent is nonsense. A team that is facing a relegation threat can afford to drop points far less than United.

For once I agree. Like with every club you can make a case for us affording to not succeed and a case for needing to. We've come across as a panick stricken club at times over the last 3 years. I see nothing wrong with buying potential. It's not as if we're the single club around that has a gun to it's head and must play established 25 year olds only or perish into the wilderness.

The key is to structure the deal with performance and appearance factors.

100 million quid is absolutely fine if half of it is based on him being successful.

If we blow a huge fee on mbappe and it doesnt work out then we're potentially in long term trouble. How many seasons can we scramble for champions league football and still keep making serious bank?

And if Real splash 40m on a 16 year old and bid another 130m on Mbappe what does that make them?
They just won the champions league again. Theyre in a position to take transfer risks. We on the other hand need to get our transfers bang on, especially massive balls-out ones.

Would love to see us blow real out of the water here. He clearly wants to go there but maybe we can outmatch them financially. They've been getting whatever they want for far too long!

Based on what again? Some media story you've read. The boy hasn't said anything. All he's said is that he wants to go where he will start and not stagnate. With Ibrahimovic not being renewed and Griezmann staying at Atletico, this is something Mourinho can offer him if he's really interested in Mbappe. Madrid just went back-to-back and Benzema is protected by Perez and Zidane. Maybe if Bale comes here, the path opens up but that's a big if.

Make rashford and martial world beaters first. Got enormous potential and has to be freed of defensive duties.
