I wouldn't really say him being a huge Ronaldo fan goes against us that much.
Maybe he still blames us for treating his hero like a slave instead of letting him playing for the blessed club in Madrid? :nono:

This is tripping me out. The pic looks like it's from early 2000s, that's a kid with posters of Ronaldo on his wall at Madrid...Ronaldo is still going and not that old. This is proof of time travelling and not just once.

Owen Hargreaves had David Beckham posters on his wall. Think about that for a second.

We already have a lot of raw potential in our squad which needs to be nurtured and given time to develop. Martial, Rashford, Shaw, Pereira. Buying one more, albeit of superior quality, is not going to help our chances of challenging for honours next season. And on top of that, we also need reinforcements all across the pitch, since the LVG signings are being slowly shown the door. A top-notch replacement for Zlatan, for Rooney, a CM or two to repace Basti, Schneiderlin and Carrick, new centre backs, and a GK, if DDG leaves. Does it really make sense to spunk all of your budget on a kid with potential when your squad is so imbalanced? I don't think so.

We have the money to go after him the next summer, if Monaco hold on through this one. I'd rather we strengthened our squad with sensible and necessary signings rather than weaken it with flashy galactico ones.

I think along similar lines but then if Jose thinks the kid is going to be a great then I'm all for it. Regardless of signing Mbappe we would still sign atleast two more players imo. A central midfielder will be the priority along with and attacker or two to solve our goal scoring issues.

If he is good enough then age doesnt matter to me. However I think we have more other pressing areas to strengthen namely at CB, CM and an experienced striker before we can indulge ourselves.

I'd never heard of him until the QF of the champions League.

Just sayin.

Why would you play for us at the moment? Sorry even from a fans point of view, I'm going to Real....

That's easy to say though, in reality how many games will he get for Real with their current attaching options? He's competing with Ronaldo, Morata and Benzena for a striker spot, if the 90m fee is true I just don't see Madrid spending that on a 18 year old kid.

With a team like United at least you could argue he'd start every week, be paid the same as Real would offer and we're still a massive club with one of the best managers around.

No doubt Madrid is a great club but the worst thing in the world is for a young talented player to be sat on the bench in my opinion. Odegaard is a great example, he could be at Ajax now on the verge of playing a Europa final and picking up a Dutch title while getting 30-40 games under his belt, instead he chose Madrid to play in their B team and to be loaned out, daft imo.

The question isn't "why should he want to play for us" but "why should we even be interested"? I don't mean that in a cocky way, like, we're the best and everyone should want to play for us type of nonsense. No.

But we need a mixture of youth and experience. We have Rashford upfront who's 19. Our other striker needs to be a mature experienced player that will help offer something else to the team in the way Ibra has done. In the way Falcao does for Mbappe. Playing Rashford and Mbappe together, until the both get another 3-4 years of experience, would be sub-optimal for the club.

Rashford might not (or he might, who knows how things will turn out) have as high a ceiling as Mbappe, but very importantly he's ours. A lad from Wythenshawe that was wearing the United shirt since he was a toddler and who came through our academy. A player with a high chance, if all goes well, that he might play his entire footballing career with us.

So I say let's bring in a mature 29-30yo striker who'll help mentor Rashers and take the heat off him then leave in 3-4 years to let the young lad take centre stage. Instead of spunking a world record fee on a teenage striker when we have our own.

Matter of opinion I guess but no guarantees in football and I'm sure Depay might have thought the same thing when he moved from Dutch football to here. I think the mentality of a young player is also the opportunity to have played with world stars for what you can learn.... and look at his wall as a young lad in bedroom!!! I love Utd and supported them for 40 years but the opportunity to play with CR for a couple of years, in that stadium against Messi et al is something that cannot be matched in this country. Turning up for training, you'd be pinching yourself....

I've got the feeling than in the last minute some team that haven't been showing apparent interest like Bayern will swoop in the last minute for Mbappe. Whenever Marca makes too much of fuss about someone it ends up falling through for Madrid. As for us, we need to qualify for the CL to even have a chance.

Rather go for a more experienced striker like Aubameyang.

He has been great this season, but we already have a young striker doing well for us.

According to L'Equipe, he has no interest in joining, and does not like the style of play

Who can blame him. Our forwards have to play as defenders when we go ultra defensive against any decent opposition.

Either Morata or Benzema are out, we could even think both can be out and Mbappe/Mariano are their options for the next year.

In that situation, if they play their pieces right, they can sign Mbappe and then sell both Benzema and Morata for almost the same amount they will have to pay for Mbappe, that leaves them with a great upgrade over Benzema in the 9 and maybe even making bank after all those operations

Man when he goes to Madrid, they're going to be filthy in a 4-4-2 setup. That way Zidane can accommodate BBC and Mbappe.

RMC are most reliable arent they?
So looks like one expensive teenager from monaco out for real madrid and another one in. Surely woody will match it?

No one can out spend up, simple as. It'll come down to his preference, which sadly will be Real Madrid.

That 80m offer refused is from us for sure according to Di Marzio's story days ago.

We can't afford him and Griezmann in summer with such an insane salary required to bring Mbappe. Griezmann price is justified but not in hell a 18 years old player should be sold for such a price, +80m is too much and seems a complete gamble.

And Madrid is willing to pay 100m for him ? Insane.

Why can't we afford both? We're getting £100m+ in prize money this season alone, plus sponsors, player sales and other revenue. It's easily affordable. We won't get him though, I think he would choose Madrid.

You're talking about 200m spent on 2 players. Goodbye to any signings we want in midfield or defense then, unless we're willing to pay 400m in one summer.

Didn't think you were allowed to bid for players outside the transfer window?

You can bid whenever you want, registration's transfers can only be done during transfer windows though.

Not sure if we would be willing to but I believe we could spend that, yes.

With an offer that size, it has to be Woody first in line. Real will come in later and sign him up.

I think that bids from Real or Chelsea. I think if we bid it'll be something mental they can't refuse.

Don't see it. More a case of putting Uniteds name out there to drive the price up.
Hoping we go after someone a bit more experienced and spend the rest on a quality right-sided winger and commanding centre- half.
