Because, they need to replace him and the sooner they do, the more options are on the table. The more you wait, the least Monaco will be inclined to sell.

Teams usually replace them before they sell them, especially when clubs know you're about to come into a world record fee. Look at how Juve got fleeced for Higuain once Napoli knew they had money for once.

Two sources from Spain(Cope) and Italy(Di Marzio) have said we've made a bid. So it's probably us.
I still don't think he's leaving this summer.

No, they don't. Teams buy replacement when they know that a player is leaving and when they know for how much. They don't buy a replacement and wait for offers, at least not the clubs with limited amount of money.

Monaco will also have other decisions to take and won't sell everyone, so if good offers come for other players while nothing interesting come for Mbappé, they will accept the former and close the shop for the latter.

Both clubs could have made a bid, he's the most talented footballer in Europe so it wouldn't be unexpected that everyone's interested.

We'll see. I bet he doesn't leave before July though.

Do not want, unless we buy and loan back to Monaco. We need GOALS. Thus a proven goalscorer with experience at the highest level.

He has made 27 goals in his entire professional career. One good season. How is that experienced? Zlatan is at 420 goals

To already have 27 goals shows he is a proven goal scorer and he does have experience at the highest level he already has a bunch of goals in the CL.

I'm not totally convinced we're the ones who have made the bids. Don't get me wrong, I'd live it to be us but it's so easy to put our name to the bids, as everyone knows we're after a goal scorer and we have LOTS of money to spend.

I hear he possesses the ability to score goals in football matches, so I doubt he'd fit in well with us, to be honest. Steer well clear of this kid. It could disrupt the squad to bring in such a different type of player.

I'm not doubting his potential. But does scoring 27 goals really make you 'proven'? Because then the likes of Janssen would be proven too. He has played 536 minutes in the CL which is very good considering his age, but in my opinion playing 9 CL games doesn't make you an experienced striker.

Who knows, he might be able to score 20+ goals in the PL right now but i don't think it's worth the risk. We need a guarantee or at least as close as possible to one as you can get.

Anyway, last post of the day.

I'm in the lets wait and see how he does in year two camp.

It would be the best thing to do in my opinion, particularly during a World cup year he could be naturally more tense.

If he doesn't want to come here then breaking the bank on him would be completely silly imo. We need players who want to play for us, not ones who dream of Madrid.

No one knows what he wants, not even some of the generally trustworthy journos. The hint is that they use his visit to Madrid as a proof of his desire which is a bit nonsensical since he didn't signed for them at the time.

Fair enough. I don't think its wise for us to get into a bidding war with Madrid if he indeed wants to play there.

If Mourinho really is convinced in him, I am fairly confident Supreme Leader Woodward can beat anyone to his signature.

It's definitely best to wait and give the player time to develop but you just don't get that luxury these days, do you? If you don't want to risk it there's a bunch of oil clubs who will, like City & PSG, who just scatter gun like feck until they get it right. It even happened in the Rooney deal, didn't it? IIRC we weren't planning on buying him that summer, but he had a great euros so Newcastle started bidding and the rest is history.

Hope he joins madrid in the summer so his fans on here can do a ''feelsbadman'' circlehug.

Cute of Liverpool to make a (rumoured) bid for Mbappe at £64m.

Look at them trying to mix it with the big boys. :)

That's fine. We're not going to panic buy.
Since when has buying the best young talent in world football been seen as a panic buy?

Yes the fee is pretty crazy but Monaco can demand what they want, I can't see us or Madrid paying it though. More than likely he will stay there 1/2 more years, tear it up and then be sold for a similar record fee.

By all accounts though Jose really likes him, he seems like a perfect professional with the right mentality already. I would rather spend big money on a potential world class player like him.
