Kylian Mbappé joins PSG on one year loan with option to buy

If it I was a young player looking to develop myself, Arsenal is the last place I'd want to go. Absolutely horrific injury record with the youth over numerous seasons that suggests training methods and/or medical strategies are poor. The best place for him to stay right now is Monaco, provided they don't lose too many players. Coming to the PL would be a gamble because most of the big boys have already constructed a plethora of youth players which they are currently developing. He could come here for example, but then we already have Rashford and Martial. Then again, if he does want to come here I'd want us to get him anyway!

If he wants to become the world's best striker then he needs to come to Arsenal and play under the best developer of young talent in football. I can't think of a young player who hasn't improved in some aspect under Wenger. Even the ones who didn't go on to greatness because of injuries or attitude problems, like Bendnter, became better players during their time here.
*snip*
A decade ago, maybe. Wenger used to be a master of purchasing relatively unknown kids and making them look good under his system. That was in the past though... i think he has failed to evolve with the modern game, and it's passed him by.

I'd love Mbappe but he'd suit playing with Martial more than Rashford.

If we wanted a young French striker to compliment Rashford it'd be Dembele, if not Martial.

Mbappe is better than any of the players I've said though. He'd walk into our team and instantly improve it.

Where and how does Monaco find all these young talents? Do they have a good academy? Seems unlikely in a small casino town.

If we play 60 games they could get 30 starts each and around 45 appearances in total even with no injuries considering Rashford ability to play wide. That would be the perfect balance.

They are un under the radar club, much like Dortmund have been. Not a giant, nor are they expected to compete with them, so while the like of Madrid, Barca, United, Chelsea, City, PSG et al are all duking it out, the likes of Monaco just help themselves to top emerging players, then sell them on after they become very good.

They don't have to find these players in just Monaco. My guess is that they're scouting throughout France and wrap up talents at an early age or they convince players who have shone at Clairefontaine to sign for them.

Something people are missing. People are talking about his age and experience, but forget that Martial and Rashford combined to save our season last year from becoming a total embarresment. Martial seems to be sulking a lot this season, but all 3 of them can work if we have some creativity in midfield behind them. All 3 of them can play wide or go through he middle. They can be a handful for any defense. Who would want to face all 3 of them making runs behind the defense.

Clairefontaine?

I think people may be missing in this just how much Monaco's two striker formation helps him. I'd argue that if we intend to sign him then we may face the same problem we sometimes face with both Martial and Rashford. They can both play wide but are undoubtedly better played central in the long run with a strike partner to complement them. Buying Mbappe and playing him wide or as a lone striker isn't gonna get much better result than we are currently getting from Rashford and Martial IMO. Adopting a two striker formation and occasionally switching to a one striker formation is the key to bringing out the best in all three IMO.

I would also go on record as saying I really don't think he is any better or any worse than Rashford to be honest, both look like really hot prospects who have both partially benefited in their debut seasons from being something of an unknown quantity.

Monaco have a big academy and they have also always focused on the post formation, basically signing players at 17-18 in order to develop them. They have scouts everywhere.

.....And if he ends up here and there's an inevitable period of adjustment/dip in form, there'll be carnage on these forums, yet he's only a teenager. If we buy him, it'd be worth remembering he's not the finished article and won't be for some years most likely. Hugely impressive though.

Right now he is scoring consistently in the KO stages of the CL which I think most people will call the highest level of Football. Also there will be carnage here regardless see Zlatan/Pogba.

There are two sides to this. If Mbappe came, Martial or Rashford would be affected negatively. Martial more so than Rashford because Mbappe will play ahead of Martial at United as well as for France which means Martial will forever play on the wings or upfront if we have injuries or match bans. Rashford on the other hand is the fearless sort. He has a lot of belief in his own ability which means we could go ahead and buy Aubameyang, Lewandowski and so on, he will take that up as a challenge and will will learn from them and better himself. Rashford has a great head on his shoulders and that's why Mourinho loves him and will help him achieve his true potential. If Martial doesn't start producing the goods consistently, he'll be shipped out sooner rather than later.

And I think Mbappe is a great striker with amazing finishing. Rashford needs to better that aspect of his game and he'll be the complete striker. He's got more pace than Mbappe in my opinion.

If Mbappe is going to become the best, he has to remain injury free, maintain the right attitude and work hard.
There is so much wrong with your line of "reasoning" regarding Arsenal and Mbappe, but this takes the cake. He needs to remain injury free to become the best so your recommendation is to join Arsenal, the most injured club of the past decade?

Also, when was the last "best striker in the world" to have been developed at Arsenal? According to your first statement, going to a Arsenal is a prerequisite for this.

Honestly mate, I don't blame you for some wishful thinking, but you can't seriously believe any of that, can you?

It is very very hard to believe he is just a teenager. I seen some wonderful teenage strikers in my life but this kid is different. It takes time for a footballer to reach world class levels in terms of finishing, movement, decision making. Yet, Mbappe is already as good as anyone. I think during 06-7 season, SAF said a typical footballer keeps developing until 24-25. It is scary to think what Mbappe will be 6 years on. He has the potantial to be this generation's Brazilian Ronaldo.

I wouldn't leave Monaco this summer if I were him. He seems to have a perfect situation.

Well he is not gonna come here. Even if he comes here he might need a season to get used to the PL. The same people who are fantasizing about him joining us will start saying "Mbappe is not good enough, let's sign the next random best young striker" if he fails to play well.

When will you all realize that money isn't the solution always? We have spent so much and still struggling to finish in the top 4.

Van Persie was pretty good for a while there.
Thierry Henry was the best striker in the world during his time here.

Even Adebayor was one of the best strikers in the league for a season.

Feel free to disagree with me, but we have developed good strikers in the past.

Perhaps I should have explained my injury free point more clearly, I didn't say to remain injury free Mbappe must come to Arsenal. My first point was that he should come to Arsenal to develop under Wenger. Him remaining injury free is a general requisite for his development, regardless of where he goes. He isn't going to suffer more or less injuries just because he comes here.

Talented players are the solution. Quality footballers are what we need.

Money buys that. So, yes, money is the solution.

I agree with most of what you said. Henry, RVP and Adebayor were all developed by Wenger. However, Arsenal haven't really shown much ambition in the last couple years. They haven't bought in more world class players to better themselves which is why Ozil and Sanchez have been hesitant to sign new contracts. Baring that in mind, Arsenal are no longer the same. I'm a United supporter and would love for Mbappe to come to OT but I feel being young and all, he's better off being at Monaco or joining a team like Dortmund or even Athletico Madrid (but then again that could jeopardize his chances of joining his favorite team, Real in the future.

Money is a part of the solution, it's not the only solution. We have spent OTT for 4 years and still can't finish in the top 4. I'm not saying that we shouldn't spend at all, I am saying that we should spend the money wisely. Tactics, formations, etc all play a part in how the team plays on the pitch. Some teams don't pay huge amounts of money for transfers but still have good players. We all thought Di Maria, Falcao, Memphis were going to be our star players but where are they now?

Although not sure why you didnt just google that.

I know where they are, it was an hypothetical question, what I meant to say was that we should spend money on players which suit the managers tactics and formations. Also we can't give up on talented players just because they have one bad season. Now people are saying Martial and Shaw aren't good enough just because they are out of form for this season. People want instant success and want United to spend millions and fantasize, and then bash those expensive players when they don't perform as expected, these are players not 2 minute noodles to give you instant success.

What a talent and would be a great signing but I think we have enough young players that we are waiting for them to show their full potential. We need proven 26 - 28 years old players who know their game with proven quality who are physically and mentally strong to play for Jose and in the PL.
This lad will cost more than Martial and we would need to then pay over 60m to get him. I can see their being a long queue of teams for this lad, and Real need to refresh their front line. This lad is made for them....

He's not going to leave this summer.

Apparently told Repubblica (not sure how trustworthy a newspaper they are, but...):

“I’d like to win the Ballon d’Or, the Champions League and be a regular starter for France. I’d like to leave a mark with Monaco before I leave. I am only focused on this season.

“If the mind works well then anything can happen and this amazing season of Monaco proves it.”

RVP and Adebayour were never the best strikers in the world, even at their peak. You can list some great strikers at Arsenal, but you can say the same about many top clubs.

Back at Arsenal's peak there was not much to distinguish them vs. other top clubs in this regard, even in England. Now, even less so.

I agree regarding the injury free point. And I think that's a significant reason to avoid Arsenal altogether. Their record with injuries is very poor.

Has arsenal written all over him will stay there for a couple of years then go to Barca or Real .

Apparently told Repubblica (not sure how trustworthy a newspaper they are, but...):

I think the fact that there is a world cup at the end of the next season means that he might stay because everything is so new to him, he shouldn't risk going abroad when proving a 2nd season at Monaco would be better for him in terms of maturity and development. If they win the league (they're wll on their way) and the CL (I think Juventus will knock them out) then who knows really.

Well said. Can't believe the people rationalising the sale of Martial and Shaw (though less so in Shaw's case). It's pointless though. Lot's of people derive more pleasure talking transfers than actual football itself. I saw one guy suggest we made SEVEN signings this summer :wenger: people get in such a frenzy over transfer windows it's mad.
