Indeed. There is a new sheriff in town and his first business was to show Barca and Real who the boss is.
This is a statement of intent.

Considering FFP is well and truly dead and buried this might well be true. But big signings and obliterating transfer records do not necessarily mean silverware. Just ask Madrid in it's Galactico's period when it had relatively few trophies to show for it.

PSG have a lower budget than the biggest clubs and less than 55% wages to turnover ratio before this summer.

You also have to take in account that French employers have to pay a significant amount of social contributions on top of the gross wages.

PSG had the 6th highest wage bill past season according to this.....

It seems like you will be topping the charts after the addition of Neymar and Mbappe,if I am not mistaken.

Cringe. It's weird that people are so enamoured of the power of Qatari money.

I don't get how this is possible. Around 400m on 2 players?

Easy. Dirty laundered oil money for a team owned by a country. Also, since Neymar apparently paid his own release clause from his 300mil contract to be Quatar's 2022 WC ambassador, PSG are not in violation of FFP because the club technically did not pay his release clause. All this slime and grime being done by the Quatari government to take the focus off their human rights violations getting these stadiums built and apparently it is working because I haven't heard anything about their slave labor in some time.

Don't know what joy people are getting from seeing Madrid and Barca screwed. It's a sad indicator of where football is headed if players leave/not go to teams like Barca and Madrid to go France to play their football. Anyway, hope Mbape enjoys playing his entire career in Ligue 1 (if he actually becomes a star)

Well it's not at all a good thing that oil teams are stretching the already insane money even further. Not good at all.

But Barcelona and Real have been the bully boys for a long time, so it's good to see a bit of comeuppance on them

Not this way though imo. I can't stand Madrid but I wish Mbape would go there and actually have a career at a top top club in a good league. Pity he's going to spend all of it at PSG now.

They've hoovered up other sides best players for years. I guess some people enjoy seeing them not always get their own way regarding transfers.

How about a normal answer.

How popular is PSG in France?

Probably the third team behind Marseille and Saint-Etienne but for Sainté it's mainly people that were kids during the 60s 70s, so PSG might be above them now.

Not even the most popular in France? Wow that's surprising.

PSG was 2nd most popular in France behind Marseille in the 90s and by far the most popular in France now with the recent success.

Paris is gathering a lot of interest abroad too, up to 200 million "fans" according to the marketing department.

That's exactly what we want to see. Real and Barca getting a dose of their own medicine albeit by foul means. Feck 'em! Is it such a bad thing if PSG/Monaco become the new Real/Barca. Don't get why you think it's a sad/bad thing?

But Monaco aren't doing anything? They're a selling club.

So how would they and PSG become the new Real/Barca?

That's the irony that I mentioned a few years ago, FFP ensures that clubs like Monaco stay selling clubs, they make sure that the big historical clubs keep their monopoly while clubs like PSG or City join them.

Just talking hypothetically. With their recent success and the activities of PSG, Players may find Ligue 1 more appealing, especially if PSG win the CL this season. It would be like a few years back when they were hoovering up players like Falcao and Rodriguez.

If this happens and the Uefa doesnt enquire about it, the future of football looks sad. People laughing at Barca and Madrid won't be laughing when one of our players/potential transfer targets does the same thing. Clubs like PSG and City are spending oil money to get to the top. Very soon, clubs like United, Madrid and Barca won't be able to keep up with such spending. Signing a teenager for such absurd money also does the market no good. It would be super sweet if Monaco still pep them to the title.

You're way off with that statement mate, seeing an end to this La Liga monopoly for the best players in the world would be an extremely good thing.

So the new sheriff in town is a club backed by sovereign wealth and you talk about it like it's a good thing for football? Moronic post.

If anything, they should have been appealing THIS season considering they went to the semi-finals in the CL and won Ligue 1 last season while playing great attacking football.

And instead they're in the process of selling their best players. They can't keep their best players AFTER success, so I don't see how it'll happen in the future with potentially no success and how they'll allure players when they're not paying wages like the other clubs are.

Nope because all that'll happen is City and PSG will get all the best talent as they have absolutely no regard for money or playing by the rules. Awful for football.

Well they'll have a shitload of money now so maybe they'll start again and this time try and remain competitive and hang on to their players.

If that scenario ends up being the case, which it definitely won't because they can only field 11 players each at the end of the day, then yes that would be awful, but that's quite unrelated to what I said. I said seeing an end to the La Liga best players in the world monopoly would be an extremely good thing, because it somewhat levels out the playing field a bit more. This is a good thing because it's subtly brings us closer to what European football used to be like before it was a toss up between Barca or Real Madrid as the best team on the planet every bloody year.

I don't think La Liga monopoly is ending anytime soon as long as they have players like Messi/Cristiano and that they are winning European trophies. There's a generation of kids who are now turning professional who grew up watching Barcelona dominate (Dembele being one of them) and who, to them, Barcelona/Real Madrid is the pinnacle. I definitely don't see PSG becoming the next big destination for every great player. They've always had an affinity for Brazilian players, and getting Neymar is a huge deal, but they need to win in Europe and being consistently great for a long time before they can even think of being a top destination for the future talents of football.

weird thing to say after they've just signed two of the best future (current with Neymar) talents of football.

You can look at it that way, I look at it as Neymar chose Barcelona first over PSG and their board screwed up, just as Mbappe most likely wanted Real Madrid over PSG and will eventually want a move there. PSG got Neymar because Barcelona screwed up, and PSG got Mbappe because his team screwed up in their demands and it was also just bad timing, too soon for him.

Sure, sure. But top talents will keep wanting to join Paris while haters will keep claiming it's only because X or Y "screwed up".

Is it? So as well as competing with Madrid and Barca, you want to see a few more mega rich teams tossed into the mix? 'Cos if you think Madrid and Barca will suddenly become undesirable to the vast majority of players you are sadly mistaken. It's quite strange. People's bitterness towards the success of the Spanish teams has gone beyond rational envy and has spilled into the deranged and nonsensical. What it does is knocks us down the pecking order further. But waheyyy!! Those Spaniards! Not so cocky now are they!! It's pathetic people get so excited over Arab money hoovering up. It is nothing positive for Utd, short or long term.

Listen man, I'm from Paris so I'm not hating on anything. However, you and I both know it's a fact Mbappe was interested in Madrid before PSG (who turned down the possibility of having him in the academy), and Neymar most likely would have stayed put in Barcelona (or would have gone to Madrid as that was his first choice as a kid) over PSG if their board managed the situation better. I'm happy for PSG that they got both of those players, but it's not changing the fact that Barcelona and Real Madrid have more prestige and pull for young players than PSG will for the foreseeable future. Dembele dreamt of Barcelona, Mbappe of Madrid and they're the two best talents in France, so imagine for talents from the rest of the world.

I never liked UEFA under Michele Platini. He was proven to have taken money illegally but at least the FFP rules were enforced under him.
It's guilible to think Platini would enforce FFP on a French club (PSG) and turn away from money UEFA can benefit from these kind of transfer

Not just that. Remember the recent event of how Barcelona unsettled Verratti and pretty much disrespected PSG. Then Coutinho with L'pool and Dembele with Dortmund. This is nothing new it's Barcelona and Madrid. F.Perez is often quite open talking about other clubs' player from time to time. Both clubs are too smug for other clubs' benefit. It's about time they taste their own their medicine.

What with the death of football? If anything, spreading super stars across the club is good for the game, rather than few dream teams dominating year after years.

Doesn't matter, PSG will just pay them more and offer their clubs a bigger fee. In the end money will trump prestige and pull as long as PSG are competing in the latter rounds of the Champions League.

I expect in the future PSG and City will become the Real / Barca equivalent but on an even bigger scale, unless other royal families enter the market. There's no way normal clubs can keep up with their funds.

Just enjoy the moments, PSG is doing something truly incredible and for a moment their fans should truly appreciate that. For years they wanted these type of players.

Agree. Probably the same crowd that celebrates when an athlete takes a picture of himself with a suitcase full of money and posts it on Instagram
