Kylian Mbappé joins PSG on one year loan with option to buy

It was coming. So much noise the last few weeks, seems a matter of days now.

Never thought he would join PSG after the Neymar transfer, but if they are bidding so much money for him, not many clubs wouldnt sell. Seems like even Real were reluctant to pay the money

Rightfully so, I might add. They have a great balance on their team, and I don't know if it's the Zidane influence (since the media kept reporting he promised one of the BBC members out for Mbappe), but Florentino Perez has been impressively calm and composed in his dealings. This is the best team in the world right now by a stretch and it's not something I would want to mess with by gambling immensely on a youngster who is, admittedly, a freak of nature for 18 years old but still unproven in the long run.

I guess after Neymar many players would like to join to PSG. And specially when they pay top salaries. In PSG and you can sure club makes everything what it needs to win CL. And you will be Bayern kind of favourites to win domestic league. Mbappe and Neymar will not be the last superstars/supertalents to join PSG in coming years.

The fees are spread across the length of contract. Both of them over 5 years (length of contract) is the same as PSG buying a player every year for 75m Euros. Something I assume most people know and understand isnt impossible.
The spread across payments are only a marginal benefit.

For example when a club like City or United spend 150m in a window, it's actually staggered into about 30m per year. In effect, no matter how you look at it, 400m in a window is 400m in one single window. I could make it more technical but I think you get what I am trying to say.

I think that no matter how PSG engineers it, this will have consequences. For the young fan brought up on Instagram it might not matter, but you hear a lot of rumblings from heavy hitters (Lyon, Juve, Bayern, Borussia bosses). And you can be sure the drama queens at Barsa will not forget the Neymar thing.
I don't think it's UEFA that the should worry about. It's the EU commissioner for competition that's the danger.

It's a bit crap really. Guess I'm just glad he's not going to City.

Ligue 1 is a second rate league, I stand by that. It's a level below the four primary European leagues despite having two good European teams in recent years. I still don't think PSG will do much better in the CL than they have done recently, having an entirely uncompetitive domestic league surely will be a problem for them.
Not that below from Italy.

Yup. The Neymar signing will have a major impact to PSG (and Ligue 1). Neymar is undoubtedly talented, but he's also one of the most marketable players ever. If Mbappe joins, it will be easier for them to attract even more talent. You get to play in a city like Paris, with the league guranteed and a very good chance (if they continue like this) to win the CL while playing with the likes of Neymar. Also the wages won't be an issue.

But spending roughly 400m on two players in the same year is just taking the piss. If more oil clubs like this emerge, the traditional powerhouses will find it hard to compete with them in terms of money. UEFA should not allow this, but we all know they won't stop this.

So how's it structured? Loan with obligation to buy next year or they're signing him now?

Because that's going to be €160-180M increase in the club's gross debt(per year). I imagine they believe they could deal with it starting from next year, but right now? They'd need, what, a €130m increase in revenue for the season? €100m? Even €80m wouldn't be easy to pull off...

It'll be interesting to see how well Jardim's players adapt away from his tactical setup. I still see the most impressive piece being B.Silva but Kylian's transfer and wage demands are really a bad omen for things to come

Can the title be updated after Romano's tweet? That must make this PSG move a done dealio.

So City's reason for not doing this deal isn't the eye watering cost, but the lack of time left to complete it.

Other than having all the window to complete it, what a lovely thought that they are willing to spend £400 million in a single window. But hey, Pep's a genius right?

Absolute shite club.

If I was a Ligue 1 team, I'd line up with my reserve players as a statement against financial doping. They're gonna win anyway, right?

Debt is financial doping

Yes.

I've read today that PSG tries to include a player in the deal (like Lucas Moura) but he doesn't want to join Monaco.

The market value seems to be around 150 millions.

I follow a PSG forum and according to some ITK guys: M'bappé is a deal done

PSG will present his new 3rd shirt and M'bappé at once but the deal will be officialised before.

The salary package is 10 millions of euros for the 1st year >> 15 millions last year of the contract

M'Bappé will be in Paris this week-end

That's net salary, right? Incredible. If they pull everything off without breaching FFP, kudos to Nasser

There is no way there are pulling of these two deals without breaching FFP. But they have money and they would have paid off UEFA as well.

Personally, I see Mendy and Silva fairing and adapting the worst, while Mbpappe in my mind is going to terrorise French championship along with Neymar. Bakayoko may well be overwhelmed by the speed and stamina of the players in the EPL too, I see him struggling at the beginning at least before he builts it up. I remember him being completely done in like 60 minutes in two games Monaco played City.

Not sure you can terrorize in the French Ligue. It's always interesting to see players who thrived one place and in one system move somewhere else to see how much is system and how much is player or a combination of the two. We'll see

Seriously? Find that very hard to believe. If so, truly incredible
These wages make sense and fit into our wage structure.

The most stupid numbers quoted were obviously wrong. As a rule of thumb I take every mention of net wages in France with a pinch of salt.

I never liked UEFA under Michele Platini. He was proven to have taken money illegally but at least the FFP rules were enforced under him.

Yup, wages are generally gross and somehow inflated.

Surely this puts to an end any dreams he had of playing for Madrid, right?
Those 'dreams' sound like a load of crap generated from Marca doing a Marca. He had pictures of Cristiano Ronaldo but that makes it look like he's a Ronaldo fan that Real fan. There's a lot more chance than he dreams of representing the city of his birth.

PSG with a two fingered salute to FFP.

I might be the only person who still doesn't have an opinion on M'bappé. I saw him and Monaco a few times last year but I never really noticed him enough to form an opinion on him. I'll see him a lot more this season with him seemingly heading to PSG.

It'd be quite odd if he accepted less money from PSG than what monaco and real madrid were willing to offer

If that's the case PSG would have the lowest wage bill of all top clubs. Somehow it doesn't seem believable to me...

PSG have a lower budget than the biggest clubs and less than 55% wages to turnover ratio before this summer.

You also have to take in account that French employers have to pay a significant amount of social contributions on top of the gross wages.

PSG had the 6th highest wage bill past season according to this ranking:

Should be higher in 17/18.

@BBRBB so their wage bill is consistent with other big clubs. So my point stands. I find it very hard to believe Mbappé would go to PSG to earn considerably less than elsewhere...

Wonderful to see both Barca and Real Madrid get screwed in 1 transfer window.

Isn't it in the ballpark of what other clubs were offering?

Mbappé to PSG with those wages doesn't fit the narrative of blowing other favoured clubs by splashing more money but it just seems that Paris was his #1 choice from the start, reinforced by how the dealings in the summer went down.

Indeed.
If I were born in say London, I'd much rather play for a London club, for HUGE wages, than a foreign club, for less wages.
And who knows, in 5 or so years when he is 24 (still not yet at his peak), he may move to Barca or Real.

Indeed. There is a new sheriff in town and his first business was to show Barca and Real who the boss is.
This is a statement of intent.
