Koke

Really don't understand the links with him. Just can't see him joining United in our current state.

Players will join big clubs even if they are in a slump. We still can make the top 4 so all is not lost.

When Ronaldinho joined Barca they had finished 6th the season before. People shouldn't underestimate the pull of a big club. If you are prepared to pay the big wages and transfer fees you will get the players.

Yeah heard that they are close friends. I just don't see an incentive for Koke to leave Atletico atm. Simeone is doing wonders there and they have the best chance of any team in recent years of breaking the duopoly.

I don't agree. And precedence does not support this view either, yet it is constantly cited in the TF. Players don't only leave second-tier clubs to move to a top tier one because their team isn't 'doing well'. Koke may not wish to join United, but i'd be highly surprised if he rejected an opportunity to at least go to Barcelona.

Ultimately, the players that get left at second-tier clubs (which make no mistake, Atletico are), are generally the ones not wanted by a top tier club. Pretty much works the same with clubs from every single league.

Koke ain't leaving anytime soon. Hasn't he just signed a new deal with a €36 mill buyout clause?

It increasingly looks like Moyes was watching Fernando last night. Apparently we've been present at most Porto games this season. Fernando is out of contract in summer and refused a new deal, meaning he can be bought for cheap in January.

Without meaning to come across as a 'typical Moyes' kinda guy, that does make sense. Admittedly i've never seen Koke play, at least not knowingly.

How would you rate Fernando

does anyone think we will sign him?

To be honest I can't see any other reason Moyes would go to watch it other than to watch Koke. Koke has been a rumored target for a little while too. And if that release clause is correct, I would be shocked if he didn't try to sign him. Although then again he did dither over Thiago for about £18m and then signed Fellaini for about £29m so you never know.

Well I've just watched a ten minute video of Fernando's "best bits" and it was just 10 minutes of him tackling people so I'm going to guess he's a DM, which makes me think Moyes wasn't there watching him, unless he's given up on Fellaini already. Presumably he was watching Mangala or Koke, hopefully both.

I couldn't say really as I've not really seen the guy play. He looks good in the youtube vids of him against PSG and Vienna. That's not really the best way of judging though.

It does look far more likely that we were there to watch him. I wasn't aware that we'd been present at Porto games this season until I read about it. We must be looking at one of their players and Fernando seems the most likely.

Fernando may be a good player, but I'm fed up of repeatedly going after players who are easily available or so to say. We should start acting like our size for once when it comes to transfers and go after players who will genuinely improve us irrespective of how easily available they are.

We do, and are told to feck off.

Denied:

Atletico Madrid’s Koke has shrugged offnews that David Moyes was in Madrid last night watching as his side beat Porto 2-0.

Koke has long been thought of as United target but the 21 year old has insisted that he is happy at Atletico Madrid.
Last night David Moyes headed to the Vicente Calderón to watch Koke as well as a number of Porto players the club had been linked with. With Moyes confirming that United would be in the market for players in January, it was assumed that he was watching Koke but the Spaniard has played down a move to England.
Speaking to Canal Plus, Koke said of Moyes’ visit:
“I didn’t know anything (about Moyes watching on), but I’m not concerned (with any of that). I renewed in the summer.”
It was confirmed yesterday that Koke has a buyout clause of £24m, so if that is activated Madrid will be forced to allow him to speak to suitors. But judging from his comments it appears that a move for him now may be a waste of time, especially when you look at how Atletico’s season is going.

It's off, remember last time?

First of all i struggle to believe that the epl champions are worse than atlhetico. We may be poorly managed or off form but worse? Hmm thats debatable. Secondly experience and luck play a major part in the cl. Clubs like liverpool won the cl when clearly they werent the best of teams.

If i was koke ill consider uniteds offer seriously. A great side whose desperate for a cm is an opportunity to be considered especially if the local big sides are in no need of another cm. Playing with united will mean exposure and big money. Playing in the cl is important however the option of a pre contract which would see him move next summer would be highly desirable expecially when one considers the world cup is close and koke wont be there (probably)

You're talking about the past there, we won't be "champions" for much longer. I'm talking about the here and now, which sees United languishing in 9th place and hardly impressive, and an Atletico team that has royally pissed their CL group and is now joint top of La Liga, having beating Madrid in their own back yard. And seeing as we are probably trying to get him to move next month I highly doubt he will be thinking like that. They are a massive threat to anyone in the CL, certainly more than we are this season, no mistake. Who thinks we are a better bet for the CL than Atletico at this moment in time, show of hands please...

We can sign any player pretty much if we cough up the dough, but we just are not properly competing in fees and wages.

Heard Graham Hunter on the radio saying:

A) Koke is excellent.

B) He's not leaving.

C) He doesn't think Moyes was there to see Koke. He seemed to be basing that off the identity of the scout that was with him (or something like that).

D) Moyes isn't going to sign someone he hasn't thoroughly checked out and it's more likely that he's preparing for the summer window.

E) It's unlikely that we're going to make any big signings in January unless someone who's way too good to turn down becomes available.

:(

not that he's wrong here but Hunter was waaaay off the mark in the summer.....

he was reporting that Thiago has all but signed for United

Yeah, but Graham Hunter doesn't know his arse from his elbow. He claims we matched Madrid's bid for Bale.

Yeah, I'm just happier when the unreliable stories are positive. It would be nice if they involved us buying a load of quality players, for example. Ah well.

We often talk about ethics and morals when relating to transfer business and while United didn't cover themselves in glory this past summer, I still like to think that we do, do the right things by players and clubs.

I think it would be (I don't know the word) rude or ill-timed maybe? To approach Koke and Atletico this January. He is a young player about to play in the knock out stages of the Champions League, they have a chance to do well, why on earth would he want to leave and the club lose a great player. Robbing a young player of the chance to compete at this stage of the tournament I don't think is right. Yes, we are us and we have to do what suits us, no doubt but I really don't see any logic behind it. Especially considering we can't tell him well you will play in it next season because who knows, we might not be in the bloody thing.

If we do go after him in January and it doesn't go through, I highly doubt Atletico will be willing to do business with us in the summer when we tried to take a key player out of their European aspirations.

You do realise he has to accept the transfer, yes? We wouldnt be dragging him out kicking and screaming. We wouldnt rob him of anything

Yes but we should allow the player the opportunity to play in this competition and give himself the best possible chance to be involved in Brazil. If he is stupid enough to leave in January (which he obviously won't) I would gladly take him :) but it still has no logic at all.

Honestly, if he was to join it would be in the summer. Atletico have more of a chance of winning a league/winning the European Cup than us.

Not really.

Really? Have you actually seen them play this year? They are easily better than anything this league has to offer this year. Level on points with Barca aswell.

That's why it makes no sense at all. There is no logical reason for him to join us in January.

It's media bollocks. The only ones who think it's credible are the ones going "BUT WE'RE MAN UNITED!" Truth is, that means very little when we're not competing and Athletico are.
Agreed but I don't think it's so much to do with competing (obviously a factor but I think we will be fine long term). In my opinion, this is all about the short term. He is playing well in a team doing well in both the league and in Europe, both he and the club won't want to change that. And I really don't see the point in spending big money in January and not getting full use out of the player straight away. Might as well let him develop as a player, see how he performs on the big stage, don't piss Atletico off and ask for the same price in the off season.

Aye. Problem is, if he has a great world cup, Barcelona will up their pursuit, City, PSG and Monaco will come sniffing as well. This summer is going to be a shit time to buy. The world cup drives prices up.

Yes. But CL is a different ball game altogether. The knockouts start in Feb, and a lot can change in these three months. Not to forget, once the games start piling up for them, and fatigue kicks in, their level will drop.

FFS we are talking of a couple of months ago. Get a grip.

I think the club will be on any business before the World Cup, like they did with Hernandez, well I hope they will be. Could you imagine what his price would have done after the World Cup.

I can't see Koke featuring for Spain at the World Cup but he will be aiming to be in the squad.

Apparently, Moyes was there to watch Lucho Gonzalez.

Paul Lambert and Martin Jol were also there, so it might have just been a few beers in Madrid for all we know.

Nice house mate, how much?
Erm, it's not for sale!
You sure? Could I not make an offer?
Well, I'm sure you could but...
I'll give you a hundred grand for it.
Are you joking its worth double! And it's not for sale so...
110 grand. Come on you can't say fairer than that can you?
Are you not listening? It's worth double? WTF?
Okay okay...final offer 130 grand.
feck OFF YOU CLOWN!!!
Ah well. At least I can tell the missus I tried.
