Koke

We can pretty much guarantee him a central midfield spot, something he hasn't been guaranteed in Madrid.
We can offer him more money.
We can offer him the chance to win a league title and a Champions League, something he hasn't got much of a chance of achieving where he is. Wasn't it Cazorla who said it's not very rewarding to play in Spain for anyone other than Real or Barcelona?

I'd prefer Herrera to him personally. Not sure just how good Koke is, his play reminds me too much of Tom Cleverley for my liking.

People missing Fernando when talking about players moyes may have watched.
Spanish journo on twitter saying koke release clause is 24m. If that's case, we should be all over this. Anyway, i don't think we'd have a great chance. Bet city would bid

Box to box, intelligent, humble, inventive and a great motor. I think he can become even better and lead Spain's midfield after Xavi

From what I've seen Koke is much better than Herrera. Herrera is overpriced for what he brings to the table and I don't think he's got world class potential, whereas Koke has. Koke is also 3 years younger I think, he's the one we should be going for. But I don't see it happening to be honest, although we have probably got a good relationship with Atletico.

€24mil-a great bargain the way the transfer market is going.

Sorry if I missed something that's been mentioned earlier in the thread but why do you think it's so unlikely? That release clause seems like a bargain (around what we were actually willing to pay for Herrera), we're desperate to strengthen in that area, we're bigger than his current club, we'll pay more and he's guaranteed to play. What am I missing?

"Rare composure for a mid?" Aye, those Spaniards have been crying out for years for someone to keep the ball in the middle of the park….

Probably will be tapped up by barca and told we will come in for you in the summer. :(

Quite a few players he could have been interested in. Koke is probably the most likely, but like others have said I'd be surprised if we managed to get him, especially in January. We've been linked with Mangala and Fernando too, and Alex Sandro is a good shout at left back. Athletico's left back Felipe is class too...

The Woodward feck up factor mainly. But seriously I don't see Koke upping sticks in January and leaving his hometown club that is right in the title hunt and into the CL KO stages looking like arguably the best team in Europe so far this season, especially in a WC year where he's trying to get into the squad to go to Brazil. I think he's still too young to move country but we've got the De Gea factor though so who knows.

Yeah he won't be moving in Jan. For one, Atletico have a huge chance of winning the league which in Spain if you aren't in a team called Barca or Real Madrid doesn't come around too often. Secondly, he has the opportunity to play in the UCL knockouts, whereas with us he'd be cuptied.

It pleases me if Moyes is indeed looking at him. That's the quality of midfielder we should be after. Won't be easy to get him though especially if his release clause is that enticing.

€24 million release clause? Everyone will be interested at that price, we've no chance... Thiago all over again.

Let's hope we actually make a bid (the release clause, no fecking about with 10m bids woody). Make it a tough decision for Koke to choose if he wants to stay or where he wants to go at the very least, rather then not even being in the discussion like usual when it comes to us and midfielders.

Nice price. Get him in January with another and try and generate some stability. Getting us into the top 3 should be enough to get him to the World Cup.

I just don't see it happening, that price will attract too many clubs currently in better positions than us and/or willing to offer more money. I would absolutely love Koke though, more so than Herrera or Cabaye.

Times change. I think Atletico have more of a chance of winning either than United do. Atletico have an excellent chance of winning something, so while what Cazorla said has been true previously, it isn't true at the moment.

Koke brushes off Manchester United interest
Atletico Madrid midfielder, Koke has laughed off interest from Manchester United after manager David Moyes was seen at the Vicente Calderon and was believed to have been scoring the Spanish international in their 2-0 Champions League win over Porto on Wednesday evening.

It’s not secret that Moyes has been searching for a top class midfielder, after failing to sign one this summer, but Koke isn’t worried about the presence of the Scottish boss and has expressed that he has no interest in leaving the club.

In an interview with Canal+ following the match, Koke insisted that he had know knowledge that Moyes attended the match and immediately played down the rumours.

“I didn’t know [Moyes] was here. I’m not worried, I renewed by contract this summer.”

However, Atletico Madrid sporting director, Caminero doesn’t buy into the speculation and told Canal+ after the match that he believes Moyes was on a scouting trip ahead of the Champions League draw as the two sides may be paired against each other.

“I guess David Moyes wanted to come and see a Champions League team like ours. They advanced to the next round as well. We spoke, but he didn’t tell me precisley what he was there to see.”

Koke is believed to have a release clause of €24 million, which Manchester United are fully capable of activing, but would have a hard time prying Koke away from the Vicente Calderon.
That was quick anyway, put to bed.

Serious wishful thinking from a Liverpool fan there, in my opinion. I wasn't referring to this season alone.

"Times change" was in reference to La Liga. Should've made that clear. Anyway, I think it'd be a relatively difficult decision.

Is he high on your list of hopeful January signings?

For me personally, yes. I do see him as a possible signing, unlike a Gündoğan or Fabregas. It's down to Herrera, Cabaye or him, in my opinion. And based on what I've seen this season, I'd have Koke. Looks a class act to me.

Athletico has as much chance of winning the CL as Spurs have to win the EPL.

Why? They've been excellent in the competition so far and have actual experience of winning European trophy as well as Copa del Rey recently. They're not favourites by any stretch of imagination but they do have an outside chance, if Porto and Chelsea could win it then it's not unthinkable for Atletico to be a surprise package.
