Koke

For me personally, yes. I do see him as a possible signing, unlike a Gündoğan or Fabregas. It's down to Herrera, Cabaye or him, in my opinion. And based on what I've seen this season, I'd have Koke. Looks a class act to me.

I don't think Gundogan is completely unrealistic.

Along with a creative player, I think you need a more combative midfielder. I think Matuidi would be perfect for youse as well should you manage to land him on a free. I agree, I think Koke is a better player than Cabaye and Herrera and I'd also expect Koke to be the cheapest.

He's not gonna leave in January.

So Moyes was at the game tonight? Is it nailed on that Koke was the player he was scouting?

I know, it's all about damage limitations in these threads though, isn't it? No point getting our hopes up... :(
I'm certainly not getting my hopes up, I've never seen him play, and Moyes is a better scout(not that I'm a good scout) than me, so whatever he decide and whoever he brings in I'd be happy with as long as it's for the good of the club. :p

If he does have a buyout clause that low, I wonder if it has a date like Fellaini's... I know players contracts in Spain have to have buyout clauses but perhaps Koke's clause changes after a date or certain amount of appearances? Pure speculation now, but that could force through a January move.

You just said that you don't want to get your hopes up, and that sounds to me like your getting your hopes up.

Twitter regulars saying Porto's Fernando was more likely being scouted

It appears that there's been a bid from Juventus for Fernando in the last few days so yes that seems more likely. I haven't really seen much of him but he seems to be more box-to-box than anyone we currently have.

He's not, he's the atypical sitting midfielder in front of the back four.

Maybe he was watching Alex Sandro at left back

"Midfielder linked, eh...?"

*F-A-P*

Koke > Cabaye/Herrara in my opinion but I don't know why he'd want to leave a team which is on the up.

I don't really see him as ideal for us in a midfield two (which we are clearly not moving away from).
Good player though.

Really don't understand the links with him. Just can't see him joining United in our current state.

Indeed, given Madrids form, current level and involvement in competitions and look at our situation and then compare them, it's very unlikely in the summer that he'd join us nevermind January. We could offer him more money I imagine but he's 21 and can be patient.I can't get excited about this upcoming window, but one day, we will buy midfielders and if i'm not fully prepared I think My ticker will pack in!

Just a thought..... More money, bigger club and we aren't going to be like this for ever. Remember Barcelona?

I understand all that but he is in the last 16 of Europe, has a lot of big clubs after him who can and will offer more money than we would and teams that have a more suitable playing style. I just can't see him joining United.

Because they are a far better team than us right now perhaps? They will come closer than we will.

First of all i struggle to believe that the epl champions are worse than atlhetico. We may be poorly managed or off form but worse? Hmm thats debatable. Secondly experience and luck play a major part in the cl. Clubs like liverpool won the cl when clearly they werent the best of teams.

If i was koke ill consider uniteds offer seriously. A great side whose desperate for a cm is an opportunity to be considered especially if the local big sides are in no need of another cm. Playing with united will mean exposure and big money. Playing in the cl is important however the option of a pre contract which would see him move next summer would be highly desirable expecially when one considers the world cup is close and koke wont be there (probably)

From what I've seen Koke is much better than Herrera. Herrera is overpriced for what he brings to the table and I don't think he's got world class potential, whereas Koke has. Koke is also 3 years younger I think, he's the one we should be going for. But I don't see it happening to be honest, although we have probably got a good relationship with Atletico.

I think Herrera easily has more ability. If you were to see both players have a good game, Herrera's would be better I think. I think Ander may have gone a bit stale at Bilbao, but he's got brilliant technique. Koke is the more 'English' midfielder I think, and as a result, may suit us better perhaps. That said, football is about blending styles and cultures, and if we got a Spanish midfielder, I would prefer he was more 'typically' Spanish. And he can look after himself too.

Just think he's got a bit more scope for the outrageous than Koke, who may be more consistent and metronomic. He really does remind me of Cleverley (although better to be fair).

Anyway, Koke and Matuidi on a free would be great business and sort us in the middle. Would make Fellaini look all the more useless though.

Which is why we seek to buy him in January. Non of the big clubs have need for him now. By the sounds of it he's not even playing in the centre for Atletico. If I'm being honest i don't see a big club i.e. Spanish giants or Chelsea in for him in the summer.

He would be a fool to pass up the opportunity to play in the knockout rounds of the Champions League this season. I don't know what his chances are of making the Spanish side for Brazil but I'm sure he wants to give himself the best possible chance and he does that by staying in Spain and playing.

Koke's crossing and set piece ability alone means he would be a great fit for us. He is a versatile player, and can play in a midfield 2, a 3, wide right or left. Pretty much the complete midfielder in the making.

In our current states Atletico would be favourites against us. They have lost 1 game all season, and don't look like slowing down. I reckon he'll want to stay till the summer, but by then plenty of teams will be after him, if they're not already.

Spain tend to run their national team pretty much like a club team set-up. In my view, regardless of form, Koke will not be getting in ahead of any more senior players unless they are injured. The squad (when it comes to serious business) hardly every changes. Every player has the same shirt number, and has done for years. Koke has his place in the set-up, and he is currently like a reserve player. As the olders wind down, he is in the next batch to step up.

Basically, I don't think Spain base their squads much on recent form. Their squad is their squad, and has been for years. They use friendlies to give the young players a taste, but until one of the existing squad is finished at the top, they won't make the squad.

Wow Moyes actually spoke to him? That's encouraging. Muppet mode engaged.

Don't get me wrong in not wanting him, I think he would be a great addition, I just have big doubts and don't see it happening at all to be honest.

I think January is impossible, but there definitely will be teams after him in the summer, Barca especially. Would he leave Atletico? Doubtful. I would say Agent De Gea, but we all know how that turned out the last time :( That release clause is tasty though.

There is the possibility Moyes was watching more than 1 player.

Aye, I hadn't realised Matuidi is on his last year of his contract until yesterday, same scenario with Rakitic (who has been pushing the idea of a Janauary transfer). I'd be over the moon if we're after Koke and Rakitic.

I think there is a difference there tbh. From what I gather, De Gea is genuinely good friends with Koke. I see them speak to each other regularly, even from a year or more ago. They came up in the same Atletico set-tup too, wheras Thiago just plays for the same national team as De Gea.

Yeah heard that they are close friends. I just don't see an incentive for Koke to leave Atletico atm. Simeone is doing wonders there and they have the best chance of any team in recent years of breaking the duopoly.

I gotta agree with that. There's too much risk involved for Koke to leave considering its a WC year, I think he'd turn down any offers in January. But who knows? May as well give it a go!
