Koke

FFS we are talking of a couple of months ago. Get a grip.

So tell me, because we are technically the "champions" does that mean we are the best team in the Prem right now? Is it safe to assume that that seems to be your logic?

Dont know why people assumed it was Koke. It was clearly a Porto player he was watching.

We've scouted in Portugal all season.

We've been watching Atletico all season as well so who knows. But given Moyes's we are Manchester United speeches.. I'm guessing it was Koke he was looking at.

We've been scouting players from both sides so it was a good opportunity to kill two (or more) birds with one stone.

You know this how?

Its reported every week in the potugeuse press who was present at the matches - clubs realease a list of guests. We've scouted Sporting, Porto, and Benfica nearly every week. Expected targets are as follows:

Matic (Benfica)
Carvalho (Sporting)
Fernando (Porto)
Mangala (Porto)

This morning, the English press have chucked in Gonzalez as a possibility.

Yes, last summer it was Garay, the season before that it was Gaitan and sometime before that it was Veloso.

We don't just send scouts to Portugal you know

And I believe that usually, when the manager himself is involved in the scouting process, 'shit has just got real', pretty much. I remember Fergie personally going to watch Hazard, Kagawa (and Lewandowski/Hummels) and De Gea in recent times.

I don't see pics of Moyes himself popping up at these random Sporting or Benfica games himself.

 - im well aware of that. This season we have scouted more extensively in Portugal which is the difference.

Yeah, you don't know that. For all you know we might have had a scout at every Madrid game

Yes, i do - its reported every week in Portugal! You are right about Madrid though. The Portugeuse teams release attendees more readily than other European teams, so its possible we have scouted Atletico regularly.

Yeah, you don't know that. For all you know we might have had a scout at every Madrid game

Neville and Round were in the Bernabeu a few weeks back isn't it? I'm sure we haven't sent people as hig ranking as them to Portuguese games.

We may not be the best team however we're stronger and more attractive then Athletico

We can pretty much guarantee him a central midfield spot, something he hasn't been guaranteed in Madrid.
We can offer him more money.
We can offer him the chance to win a league title and a Champions League, something he hasn't got much of a chance of achieving where he is. Wasn't it Cazorla who said it's not very rewarding to play in Spain for anyone other than Real or Barcelona?

He is closer with Atletico Madrid to a title atm then he would be at Manchester United. He already plays CL with Atletico Madrid since they won their group, if he'd come to United defiantly during the winter, he wouldn't be allowed to play in the CL anymore this season. As for next year, Atletico madrid are almost guaranteed a place in top 4 and will be playing CL while at United we will have to battle very hard to secure a place in the top 4.

I also think a player like him rather keeps on playing his games under a trainer like Simeone than to make a rash decision to go on and play for a struggling Moyes in a league were he might have problems adpating to the style of football.

Apart from the fact Manchester United is a bigger name than Atletico Madrid and he might earn more money here, there really is no reason why he would leave Atletico for United. The are playing great football, he is one of the first names on the team sheet, he is playing under a good manager, they are in a second place in the league and won their group in the CL. I think he'll just stay at Madrid atleast until the end of the season. In the summer he'll have plenty of opportunity to make a transfer if he really wants, perhaps even to a better team than Manchester United.

That said I see no reason why Moyes shouldn't atleast try to get him, you never know, but he defiantly shouldn't be our only target.

Whilst this makes a lot of good points, I think it overstates our 15 game crisis.

We only need a couple of top signings and we will look very healthy again. Two players, that's it. We definitely will have the cash but that doesn't mean we'll get our targets, true.

He won't earn more cash here. He will earn bucket loads more cash here, especially if he is successful.

In the medium-term, we will be competing for CL and PL titles. Atlectico will not. They will sell their stars as the entire Spanish league is penniless beyond the top 2.

Yes but we should allow the player the opportunity to play in this competition and give himself the best possible chance to be involved in Brazil. If he is stupid enough to leave in January (which he obviously won't) I would gladly take him :) but it still has no logic at all.

If he's "stupid enough" to leave and sign for us, its on him. Not us. We'd just be giving him an option

Yeh, I said I would take him in that case, it's just that it would be a poor move for him at the moment.

Or it could be the move that makes him a better player as the main man at United. Its hard to tell the future.
I don't think 6 months is going to change that. Let him play in Europe.

I think if he was the player behind us turning our season around and having a really good second half, he'd get even more exposure
Can't see him wanting to risk that when he has already done so much hard work to get to where he is with Atletico.

And while yes, a midfielder could turn things around for us, we need our current players to start performing, one player isn't going to change things, especially a young kid who will need time to adapt. Look at two of our best January bits of business and how much time they needed to adapt and they had a lot more experience than Koke.

I very much doubt all this adapting will be going through his head. Realistically we only need 3 players and Koke would always be a player for the future signing, whether thts be jan or summer.

Yes he would be the for the future but can you please tell me why he would leave Atletico this January, they are in the last 16 of Europe which he can play in. If he does well there, it gives him the best possible chance for Brazil. January and the end of May makes no difference in my opinion. All it does is piss Atletico off if we go in January. And if we stuff up, which given the summer is a strong possibility, I can't see them being too accommodating come the end of the season.

I don't want to sound big headed, but I would be worried if players weren't willing to sign from clubs like Atletico.

I'd be more worried about players being able to sign other players from any club.

They arent going to want to sell him at either time. We should take him whenever we have a chance to.

That's the thing. Go for him in January when we can't get him. He isn't going to give up European football and the best possible chance at a spot in Spain World Cup team. While pissing Atletico off at the same time for unsettling one of their best players.

Or

Go back for the same price at the end of the season.

I know which one makes more sense.

I don't think people should hold their breath on this. I cant see us buying Koke.

A Porto player is a different story....

Atletico are in need of money too, arent they?

Atletico are always in need of money. Currently they rely a lot on financial magic tricks, like the mix of transfer fee loans and part ownership deals brokered by Jorge Mendes.

They also tend to set plausible market valuations in the player release clauses. The players feel safer when they renew their contracts that way, which oddly enough probably means they hang onto them for a year or so longer. Plus, of course, the club can use the magic words "we had no choice" when someone does buy them.

Atletico always need money indeed, but they seem to be able to wait for the summer. Don't expect much there.
