Would be extremely surprised if we get him. I have no idea if he is any good but he has already been capped 7 times by Spain this year alone  and that setup isn't the easiest to break into.

He has to make the step up eventually. We were able to get de Gea without much, if any, hassle.

He certainly seems to generally be highly rated across the board, it's not just a case of us building him up because we're desperate for a cm. I get the impression he's expected to become a central part of the Spanish national team, which is as high a standard as we could hope for really.

Whether we'd have a chance of getting him or not depends on a) who else is interested and b) the way we approach the deal. If the underbidding we saw during the summer continues we'll have hard time getting anyone of sufficient quality.

Approaching Atletico in January will be a huge mistake. For two reasons.

1) Absolute waste of time, he isnt leaving.

2) It will piss Atletico off trying to take away one of their star players in what could be special season for them. We should respect them and what they want to do this season.

Come back at the end of the season for the same price.

What a load of rubbish.

I don't for a minute believe he's coming here in January, but that point is nonsense.

We're not asking to borrow him. They would be compensated heavily.

fecking hell.

If you think of Atletico as some kind of easily offended Victorian lady then you are much mistaken.
They were run for years by Jesus Gil for fecks sake! An evil piece of work.

Maybe I just understand how these Spanish clubs always react when teams come in during the January window and unsettle a player. Can see the same thing happening here.

Still love how people think he is going to come to United though.

I know one certain club who couldn't give a feck, no matter which window.

Comparing Real and Barca to the rest of La Liga

I know you were just having a laugh but yeh, those two don't count when talking about La Liga, they are out on their own.

I never compared them, if you read my post. Nor did I mention Barca.

You didn't see the green smiley, sorry.

If you read my second line I was making my own point about the clubs, not yours.

They'll be selling at release clause whenever they sell. Pissed off or not.

 was there any need for points 2 and 3 then?

We need to sign a player of his ilk. He's a class above Cabaye in my book, but Cabaye has proven Premier League adaptability.
While I really want us to sign Cabaye but the point about being proven in the Premier League means nothing. Look at Fellaini, he has been well of the pace as he just doesn't fit United. Of course I'm going to give Fellaini time but he is proven in the league but doesn't mean that's a tick in the box for United.

He's played more of his career as a deep-lying playmaker. See no reason why he can't come and do that job. I understand he's been playing on the right for many of Atletico's games though. He's one of those many talented Spanish midfielders that can play in more than one midfield position like Thiago Alcantara and Fabregas. Right now for Bayern Thiago usually plays as a number '6'.

Ballbag says his release is €60m(£50m).
He's clueless though. There's a reason that most other sources say it's £20m, if there is one. I doubt it's 50m. I think football manager has it at £12m, and they usually aren't too far off!

Normally I say Balague doesn't know anything that wasn't in last week's AS. However, this time, fair play to him he's picked this one up directly from the AS website :D

Koke's always said that he's not leaving this year.

The Spanish press thought that his clause had gone to about £20m in August and if the new 60m report is right, it's very unusual for a young talent to accept such a high release clause. Normally it's kept reasonable so that their agent can use it as leverage in next year's wage negotiations.

It may be that he really does only ever want to be with Atletico, and he's got some payrise clause built into his contract. Or he may have an Aguero style clause - starts high, then reduces across the lifetime of the contract - basically more of a promise to stay for the next year or two.

In any case, signing that clause suggests he really meant it when he said he's not going anywhere soon.

Anyone rated as a future starter in Spain's midfield is clearly extremely talented.

Very hard to see him being wooed here, sadly. We won't offer the money it takes to get a top player, at least historically.

Said I would avoid the muppetry this time, but like Michael Corlelone, "..they drag me back in."

I just hope that United are not going to indulge in more Fabregassery. They either know he wants to come in Jan if they activate his release clause, or they don't bother. Don't look like prize pillocks twice in six months...

Great. That's one rapped up, now who's next?
