Kobbie Mainoo (out)

If he genuinely wants £200k and won’t settle for anything around the £100k mark then by all means sell him.
This is exactly how we got into the mess we are currently getting out of in the first place.
I’m not sure that can be true though surely?
We don't even need to do that though. He's tied up for several years. The club holds all the cards.

I think so. Still - if true you can’t help admire the sheer audacity given his performances this season.
They probably think it's worth a try due to our past history. We absolutely shouldn't budge though. What happens in a few years time when he's 22/23 years old and demanding £300k+ a week?

Bollocks I think, no chance would he ask for that much.
Why wouldn't he? The club always folds in these negotiations unfortunately. Any competent agent negotiating with United would start with an outrageous figure like that.

Assuming this is true, asking for something like this while there's sacking and cost-cutting spree taking place inside the club...

And it would be very disappointing if the club gives in.

What is he on at the moment?
By all means give him a bump if it’s £50k or something but £200k is taking the piss and if we can get £130m+ for him right now and save a load of future headaches I wouldn’t be averse to that. Although it would definitely sting.

I'm not being funny but if he really is demanding that wage, we should take a nine-figure sum for him and sell.

I think Mainoo is a really good player but we simply have to stop handing out these bumper contracts to players who haven't earned them throughout their careers.

It's not a popular sentiment on here but honestly, this is the one area where I really don't mind if Ratcliffe and co. want to flex their ruthlessness. A nine-figure sum for Mainoo opens up a world of possibilities in the transfer market and, if we take the right ones, could make us a much better side in the long-run.

Thing is, Chelsea have been giving their big signings no more than £150k a week, more often less than £100k a week, so that's where the whole story falls down. They would be the club who would pay the stupid fee we would likely want, but would be unlikely to pay any higher wages than we would.

I would love to see a manager like Sir Alex or Clough handle this type of situation

Laughable really from him if true.

I think you will find that your take in fact is quite popular, I totally agree actually.

Any idea how much he's currently on ?
£20k is what I've read

To be fair, I didn't word that very well. I imagine most posters here aren't keen on Mainoo getting a £200k a week deal. Where my opinion probably differs slightly from the majority, and I didn't make this clear at all, is that I'd consider selling him for a nine-figure sum if an offer is forthcoming even without the wage being a consideration.

Rashford being homegrown would've factored into most people's reasoning for him being considered "unsellable" a few seasons ago but the smart move would again have been to get rid when there were teams considering paying around £100 million. If you can re-invest that kind of money properly, I think you're going to end up with a net positive to your team that very, very few individual players can provide.

Yeah nah..

If that indeed what he’s angling for either sell him or run down the contract (still 2.5y on it) whilst he’s on 20k and see how he develops before offering him any improved contract conditions, he hasn’t proven a thing yet, we’re closer to the relegation zone than to the top, he should get a grip.

This is how you know our players are delusional beyond words. Van Dijk is on that kind of money in his prime. You've had one good season, get a reality check. If chelsea bid big, sell.
I mean, Maguire & Antony are on that kind of money which is probably more relevant to him… and Mount is on 250k (I’m not even talking about our top earners).

Not that we should accept his terms, mind you, we need to go away from these kind of deals. But his logic is understandable from his point of view, surely you evaluate your salary expectations first and foremost by looking at your own coworkers.

Guys Wheeler isn't credible but even in his article he hasn't mentioned the wage demand of 200000 k a week , it seems this aggregator account isn't beyond making shit up to drive up engagement .

if he truly wants £200k a week them good riddims, he can leave.

And he reportedly wants to instantly go up to 200k a week ?

What are he and his agent smoking.
His agent is a genius. Put out a £200k demand so that an £80-100k extension to an already long-term contract appears reasonable.

I think United are in a position where we have no need to cave into his demands given his current contract. I don't have an issue with him demanding that type of money though, ultimately it's a negotiating position and he's a young academy players who is also an England international. He may as well try his look and when push comes to shove (when he has less than 2 years left on his contract) we will see whether he is worth that or not.

The Salt dude mentioned it in his United round-up article, it's behind a paywall though. No idea why everyones losing their marbles over what is quite clearly a bollocks story though.

If his agent is doing it, usually the player knows about it and is ok with it. The agents are doing what their clients want

Yeah, I'd be telling them both to feck off. He's 19, he's achieved relatively little so far in his career, has about 3 years left on his current deal.

Incremental incentivised wage increases is what he and any other young player should be offered, make them go out on the pitch and earn it.

Maguire is nothing like Antony or Mount. Why - despite him being our best CB for 18 months - are people still shitting on him? If you list the top CBs in the league and the top CMs in the league you’re getting to Harry Maguire way before you get to Mainoo.

Yes, you can understand why he'd want that type of money, given the club's history of overpaying players.

You can also understand why the club would point to his existing contract and tell him to (nicely) feck off.

England international, starter at Man Utd, huge future promise if (big if) he achieves it, I’d say £80k is fair at the moment. 5 year contract = job done and kick the can down the road for another 3 years.

The level between Ugarte and Mainoo at right now is night and day who is 4 years apart, if we receive an offer in the region of £100m+ for Mainoo then we have got to seriously consider it IMO.

It’s clearly complete bollocks.

Mainoo is going to Chelsea to do what? Not play ahead of Enzo, Caicedo and Lavia?

I hate this time of year for these click bait articlesz
