It's obviously a good appointment by Liverpool but if I was a Liverpool fan I wouldn't be getting my hopes up for this season. I see Klopp taking a long time to adapt to the English game and with the squad he's left with I think he'll struggle this season.

What is the difference between 4-3-3 and 4-3-2-1?`

Glad to hear he is open to using a diamond. Think that's the only formation that players our best players in something close to their best positions.

The two attackers are playing in the half spaces instead of the wings.

Jurgen has a laugh like a big-screen villain or a madman. In fact, he's so bonkers that he took the Liverpool job.

Great minds, eh?

To be fair, I can't believe I wrote so much on Liverpool but I really love the tactical side of football, formations, etc.

I've looked at your team. Do you really think he'll play Gomez ahead of Moreno? Also, I really think he'll have a huge admiration for Benteke, who, apparently he was looking at when he was at Dortmund.

Probably not, actually. Moreno is pretty damn good going forward, so I expect him to get some time to prove himself, leaving Gomez free to cover/play CB in the cup games.

Excellent news for Liverpool and good news for the Premier League too. Will be hoping he can bring that attacking verve to England.

That's not really true. Iirc he preferred at 4321 when Mainz were playing in the Bundesliga. With Dortmund he played a 433 on occasion (for example against Bayern and City I think). Especially towards the end of the 13/14 season he switched formations a lot. Trying 433, and asymmetrical stuff that's not that easy to categorize. If I remember correctly he also tried a 442 during his last summer pre season with Dortmund and began that season with a midfield diamond. It was only until all the injuries came and they got deeper into the crisis that he reverted to using 4231 all the time. Probably in an attempt to create some stability by letting the team (and Kagawa especially) play what they were most used to.

I honestly cannot remember Klopp playing a 433, and by a 433, I mean three centre midfielders, as opposed to two defensive midfielders and one attacking midfielder. Also, I can imagine he has experimented with different formations/systems, most managers do, but I'm pretty sure for most of his managerial career he has favoured a 4231. It's the formation that has brought him the most success anyway.

What people shouldn't forget though is that German clubs work with a DoF and signings are mostly a team decision between that guy and the coach. So you can't expect Klopp to deliver Dortmund's scouting network or necessarily establish a new one at Liverpool.
Pete Krawitz scouted for Klopp already at Mainz, then Dortmund, and now Liverpool.

He used it against Bayern quite often. Mostly playing Blaszczykowski as a third CM. Sometimes playing Kagawa as the striker, turning the whole thing into a 41212/433 hybrid.

this. the PL needs some fresh exciting blood + this will add some excitement into our rivalry again witch lately was like a flat friendly

I can finally watch pre and post match interviews again

Bad news if Klopp's at Liverpool. I really rate him. I hope he carries on his late Dortmund form!

Bild reports he's set to make €10m/year, only second to Mourinho's €13,6/year.
First of all, BILD is not really a reliable source. Secondly, even BILD seems to suggest that the €10m p.a. include his backroom staff.

I have no idea. I just remember back in 2008 when he took over Dortmund, that I gave him no chance to turn that mess around. And I felt pity for him as I thought he deserved a better start into his career after Mainz.

But he did turn it around, in a pretty convincing way. Some might still not acknowledge it, but taking over Dortmund in 2008 was like volunteering to captain the Titanic AFTER it hit the iceberg. After those heydays under Hitzfeld ended in 1997, Dortmund had exhausted 8 or 9 managers in only 10 years. And that is including the rather stable 4 years with Sammer in charge.
Most Dortmund fans didn't think that he'd be able to clean up the mess, and so did many journalists. I recall an article in which the author found it rather dumb of Klopp to dismiss Leverkusen's offer and their brilliant prospects and chose hopeless Dortmund instead.

The surging form that carried his side from relegation candidacy to Europe? That would definitely spark some life into the League, agreed.

The thread about him at Pool will be a mare in the future, it will jump from positive to negative knee jerk after every single Liverpool game. Oh dear.

No press conference 'till tomorrow :( Announcement could be today though.

Excellent appointment for them. He'll almost certainly be able to put an end to Liverpool's excessive spending on average players, and will probably be a lot more shrewd with his own purchases if his history at Dortmund is anything to go by.

Very good appointment for Liverpool, they're nailed on for 5th now.
