Klopp Confirmed Liverpool Manager

I'm still very wary of believing the media narrative so I hold hope this doesn't go through. His agent may be letting the story run to draw in other clubs interest.

If not, always good to have characters in the league

The wider cultural atmosphere, in which Gary Bloody Neville (the pundit) is hailed as an insightful breath of fresh air, dictates that foreign managers are considered to be either maverick geniuses or weird failures. Such is the generally dire level of true competence, innovation and adaptability amongst British managers, it's inevitable that Klopp is viewed in an extreme way: potential genius or potentially rubbish...because there's precious little nuance in football when it comes to opinions.

Well especially if Liverpool is involved and if one of the caf's favourites, outside the club, ends up going there. I guess at this stage i will just lean back and enjoy the show. Got any popcorn?

That's not really true. Iirc he preferred at 4321 when Mainz were playing in the Bundesliga. With Dortmund he played a 433 on occasion (for example against Bayern and City I think). Especially towards the end of the 13/14 season he switched formations a lot. Trying 433, and asymmetrical stuff that's not that easy to categorize. If I remember correctly he also tried a 442 during his last summer pre season with Dortmund and began that season with a midfield diamond. It was only until all the injuries came and they got deeper into the crisis that he reverted to using 4231 all the time. Probably in an attempt to create some stability by letting the team (and Kagawa especially) play what they were most used to.
This and obviously he didn't stick to one formation during a game but adjusted to going forward and defending. From time to time, he dug at journos in post-match pressers, asking them which formation they thought Dortmund had played and laughed out loud when they didn't get it right.

I'm looking forward to watching his pressers at Pool. Big entertainment to come, including his English and mimics.

He's been confirmed apparently.

I dunno, seems likely now. Where else is he going to go? Who else would be particularly interested right now?

Oh Jurgen... I don't want to have to not like you anymore :(

Appreciate the help with codes for getting Kloppy's first name right, I can probably cope with Alt 0252 or jüst not bother, but have you seen the state of the Bosnian assistant's name? It's an absolute minefield.

Željko Buvač What are those?

Don't forget about 香川 真司
Kagawa Shinji

"Somewhere in Japan Madwinger just woke up from his sound sleep as an alarm on his phone went off. Someone had posted about a certain player on a certain website he was no longer welcome to."

He may have just gone to bed. It's nearly 11.30pm here.

The poor bugger is probably lurking here :(

I think he'll do well. Hopefully it will force us to get our shit in gear, too. We still look awful most of the time.

Almost shed a tear there... but I take solace that he's in a better place now. Probably a room full of his hero's posters, action figurines and a life sized Shinji body pillow still dressed in a United jersey.

Fingers crossed it works out, cos if it does it'll be brilliant, but with the way the Premier League has been this season for surprising results feck knows whats gonna happen. :nervous:

Quality appointment. If Klopp wasn't available, they would've surely stuck with Brentan for a bit longer. Once they sent their feelers around and got a sniff that Klopp was amenable, it was a an easy choice to act quickly before another club snapped him up.

Superb appointment. They had, what I would say is a very, remote chance of top four under Brendan, but under Klopp it's real possibility.

Chelsea are flailing and we aren't setting the world alight. I'd say City and Arsenal are pretty much nailed on and we will probably be fine too. It gives them a chance anyway, especially if Chelsea don't get their act together and Jose gets dismissed.

Feck me, it's already started.

My brother (Pool fan unfortunately) just sent me a whatsapp: "Klopp confirmed on 3 year deal. He wants Reus and Hummels in January".

FFS. Guess they'l be linked to every Dortmund players now, especially those 2.

Just saw Klopp and his wife on German telly leaving for Liverpool.

Those are two of the three least likely to come. :D

What an appointment for them. Would love to see them keep Chelsea out of the top 4.

Reus and Hummels with no CL

Aye, I know  but stranger things have happened :nervous:

Anyway, my point had more to do with the "unbearable scouse optimism cycle" (aka boom-bust).

His next whatsapp read: "Super excited to see the master of heavy metal football at the Kop" FFS

This is after he's been on radio silence, wrt all things relating football, this past couple of months.

Sounds like career suicide to me, LFC squad is appalling couple that with no CL (I doubt they will qualify this season). Coutinho will be off next season if they don't and how long will Sturridge stay?!

I also think he will be under a lot more pressure from the off, he is expected by LFC fans to turn it around but Liverpool's problems are deep rooted and its not just a case of some new faces (Reus?! come off it, Hummels? ha ha). Plus he has to deal with unrealistic expectations in a league he knows little about.

Can't see it happening. Chelsea's squad is too good and Mourinho too good a manager. He will probably use reverse psychology to suggest their chances of wining a trophy are gone to take the pressure of the players, at which point they will roar back. Wouldn't be surprised to see them back in the top 4 by the new year.
