Keylor Navas

What do you think of Keylor Navas as David De Gea's replacement?

Yes but at least he makes saves and means we don't spend any money on a GK and overpaying excessively. Romero as first choice is woeful at best.

To be honest we should just put Valdes in goal and stop messing about.

In case anyone hasn't seen it.

What a beast!

We're getting a fantastic deal and a top class keeper in return. Straight into the team for the Liverpool game.

He's also very good at saving penalties.

Pretty sure the stats prove that Hoek improved De Gea's aerial ability last season, same deal here and he really might be a decent pickup.

Handling crosses will come with coaching, DDG was crap at it at first, too.

At least Mike Smalling will be able to give cover.
De Gea was a young weakling. Punching the ball just invites more pressure. Let's hope he's a quick learner.

I couldn't care if he punched instead of catches, so long as he punches it clear and far.

Somewhere, someone at the Mirror is just waiting to type, "SAT NAV signs for United."

Personally, I hope they go with 'KEYLOR SOZE'.

Basically unless we sign Neuer or Courtois we aren't getting a readymade like for like replacement for De Gea.

Navas is a good option I'd think.

Guillem Balague is pushing the idea more and more that we plan to swap De Gea for Keylor Navas and a fee.

He also mentioned this bizarre snippet in a recent piece, and Balague is not the type to bullshit:
Heard that a couple of times before.

I read some comments elsewhere from Madrid supporters who feel the exact way you do. What's gonna happen if Dave doesn't hit the ground running? Won't fans be pissed off?
Nah, I don't think there will be much uproar as the fans won't miss Keylor like they did with Ozil or Di Maria. Just reeks of Florentino that had to make some kind of "big" signing, but not really necessary if you ask me. DDG will be under much more pressure in Madrid than in Manchester though, especially having sold a club legend like Casillas in the same window.

You guys were going nuts on Facebook, calling for Navas to stay, all the madridstas on twitter too.

He is useless in the air, I can't understand why we aren't looking in Germany at proper PL suited keepers, not these flashy flappers.

He punched absolutely everything. I'm scared now.

There is one cross that comes to him at about head height at the front post - easy catch. Not an attacker in 6 or 7 yards of him and he punches it.

Also the save from the longshot - he pushed the ball right back towards the penalty spot. If there was an attacker following up its a goal.

Dunno, which keeper other than Neuer is super solid on high balls and crosses though? Cech maybe? People are overreacting imo.

Coutouis and De Gea are both excellent at catching crosses and high balls.

De Gea's catching has been immaculate since the start of 2014/15. If memory serves his catching stats got better last season. You lot are getting the best keeper in the world. No doubt.

That being said I'm pleased to be getting Navas in return. When you look at what's available besides De Gea who else could we have got who is better than Navas? Lloris is more accustomed to English football but he's not a better shot stopper than Navas is. If Navas can work on how he deals with high balls, like De Gea did, we'll be set.

Let's see, so the camp of a player who wants to leave is leaking negative stories to the press. I'm shocked.

Ofcourse the Caf laps it up because it feeds the general negative narrative at the moment. Most of you lads just need something to moan about all day long.

Real: we want DDG
Woodward: We want 40m for him
Real: No
Woodward: Straight swap with Benzema?
Real: No
Woodward: What about a fee + DDG for Bale?
Real:No
Woodward: Look we can play dirty if you want. We'll unsettle Ramos
Ramos: Nah I would never leave Real for you
Woodward: Please give us something!
Real: We've got this Keylor something. He's a surplus for us now
Woodward: Wow we've taken a Real's star.

Everyone calling this bullshit, this isn't a new rumour plucked out of the air.

Yeah, probably went like that. We're a joke of a club.

De Gea wasn't 'De Gea Standard' when he joined. We are basically trying to get anyone who is better than Romero in. Navas is better, fine, but no-one would say he any more than a solution for this season only.

Not true at all. Before he left there were plenty of people who talked about Navas as the best keeper in La Liga.
He is the best keeper in the league...
Navas has been immense every time I've watched Levante this season, only 27 too so could get a move to a bigger team if he keeps it up.

On the other hand Navas (Levante) and Kiko Casilla of Espanyol have been outstanding very often and are a major part of why their teams have such great defensive records relative to their league positions.

Most people who watched La Liga that season called him outstanding and he had a terrific World Cup to back it up. He's done little wrong at Madrid too. I for one could quite easily see him as a long-term option for us.
