Keylor Navas

What do you think of Keylor Navas as David De Gea's replacement?

This was always the most sensible deal for both sides, I thought. I don't know why we've messed each other around for so long, when our keepers could already be starting to settle in. Hope it gets done, anyway.

He's the best of the keepers that are available. We aren't going to get anyone as good as De Gea.

Absolute bollocks. I've absolutely no doubt that people saying things like this and "I've never been impressed by him" haven't seen him play in more than a couple of games outside of the WC. He's shown far, far more than Romero.

Yeah, it's not ideal, but it's not a bad outcome for us at all. Navas is good enough to be our keeper for years to come. The only concern I have is whether he actually wants to come here. Another Latin American player from Madrid coming here somewhat against his will is the last thing we need.

Romero also had a good world cup. Doesn't make him a good keeper. My main problem with him is that he just doesn't have the skills of a premier league keeper he flaps alot, isnt commanding and is poor on crosses. But doesn't have age on his side like de gea to learn. Good shot stopper but average overall keeper.

It just seems like just another romero signing, and this aint good

He's better than Romero however I don't see him as a United no 1 quality. How many keepers does LVG need to sign btw? In 1 year and a half he signed 3.

A lot of people criminally underrating Navas, if you haven't seen enough of the man....just say.

I genuinely hope he was our first choice as a replacement for De Gea, but I very much doubt it. Disheartening.

And some of their cast offs are great. Sneijder, Etoo and Xabi Alonso to mention three. Would you put Navas at that level?

Well he certainly hasn't been a flop.

By all accounts he's been decent for Real when called upon, and was outstanding at Levante.

Whereas some of the aforementioned players were flops at Real, add Robben to the list.

Didn't stop them going on to have superb careers elsewhere.

Navas hasn't even done anything to warrant a flop tag, yet that seems to be the position.

If he wants to be here... lets give him a chance.

Who starts vs Liverpool?

Ancelotti didn't rate him very much as he used him as no 2. Rafa didn't rate him very much either since he's selling him to make space for DDG. Correct me if Im wrong but I don't remember him being linked to any top club this summer. So it seems that not many top clubs rated him either.

I think the only one having an obsession is Woodward and its about Real. He spent ridiculous money for ADM and if the rumours are to be believed he kept whoring DDG for 3 Real players including Benzema, Ramos and Bale. I understand we're nowhere near to Real at this point. They are within the world top 3-4 clubs while we aren't even top 3 in the EPL. However I still believe we can do better than Navas

Surely you can see that Navas was played behind Casillas because of dressing room politics - as Madrid fans will tell you - and that the only reason no team has bought him now is because unless they bought De Gea he was going to be their first choice. You're being wilfully ignorant if you can't acknowledge those two essential points. He was named in many people's team of the season before he went to Real. This is what was said about him before he was even rumoured to go there.

"What is he doing here? The choice of Keylor Navas in Goal's Liga Team of the Season may have raised eyebrows on Monday, particularly given the brilliance of Atletico Madrid's Thibaut Courtois, but the Costa Rican was there on merit - and anybody who disagrees has obviously not seen enough of Levante these last nine months.

In 2013-14, Navas has been in spectacular form for Levante and has kept 15 clean sheets for the Valencia-based side so far in La Liga. Agile, athletic and boasting remarkable reflexes, he has caught the eye of a number of top teams this term, among them Atletico, who will likely need a new goalkeeper if Courtois returns to Chelsea this summer."

See above. You're making your judgements on youtube videos and hearsay - it's clear as day.

People have decided they want to moan about everything and so they'll invent reasons to do so.

If he really is the keeper that LVG wanted in the last 12 months than he shall play.

I didn't expect this to actually happen, I thought we'd just take the money and run. But I think this is absolutely the best outcome that we could have hoped for, even though Navas wasn't at the top of my list of DDG replacements. We were in a bad situation regardless of whether or not we created it in the first place, with DDG acting up and trying to force a move, Madrid lowballing us, and the potential of DDG leaving on a free like Lewa to Bayern. Even if we could have enjoyed one last great season from him, watching him leave on a free would've been an incredibly bitter pill to swallow. We managed to get a hell of a price plus one of the best available keepers on such short notice.

I don't think any of them were actually flops. Real can be inpatient and they would let players when the shinier toy is available. Having said that Keylor was never their no 1. He was under 2 managers and none of them rated him good enough to be their no 1.

Be honest, was he your no 1 (or 2) choice to replace DDG?

He's another shot stopper from what I've seen. A very very good keeper but he's coming from a league that's not as physical and doesn't cross the ball as much as in England. I don't doubt he's ability but I do doubt whether he'll be a success in England.

So he could be like DDG was for the first year or so.

I am nervous.

Feck all have seen him play because he has played feck all in Europe. 3 of the last 4 seasons he has been on the bench. He has played 55 out of the last 154 La Liga games. 47 of them for Levente.

LVG has made a mess of this. One of his top priorities coming in should have been to get DDG to sign a long term deal. He is/was our best player.

But he did not want to sign a contract, which is why we have lead to where we are

That's not LvG's role at all. The club fecked up but to put it on the manager is silly.

Lol Navas is on a different level to Romero. Having said that he will need time to adjust to the english game. I just hope fans and LVG is patient with him.

Seems VG has a thing for no2's

Yes I think so mate... His distribution is good, his shot stopping is very very good but he may struggle from crosses!

I'm okay with Navas coming in, but I'm a bit worried by him apparently not wanting to leave Madrid. He's basically coming against his will so that's never a good start. Hope he has a good attitude and settles well in Manchester and is motivated to prove madrid wrong

How many times does it have to be said? De Gea did not want to sign an extension for nobody associated with United. He already made up his mind ages ago (probably before he rocked up to OT) that one day he's going to Madrid. That's impression he gives, as he jerked us around and wouldn't sign.
