He was very good, people in here (including myself) should watch player before judging them. He was very good in that role, very intelligent, and Van Ginkel too.
He definitely wasn't very good. He was fairly underwhelming. The pressure got to him, it's fine, but he's definitely improved since then. But as a #8, which is his position, and where he has potential to become a top, top player.

You are talking about what period here ? Because i'm talking about last summer, before that he has been underwhelming, sometimes.

The EUROs in which he played as the #6, as that is not his position.

I wonder if we really need him. We have Daley and Michael to cover the defensive midfield positions. Hererra, Pereira and Pearson to cover the box to box position. I would hate to think that we would stop the deveoppment of Pearson, Perreira or Rothwell just to sign him. I did not see enough of him at Roma but his season at PSV was average at best.

if he arrives, Herrera or Mata would drop from the first eleven. Herrera occupies his position at the moment. He isnt a number 6, at least not under van Gaal.

Both superior players to Strootman in my view. That isn't a reason not to sign him though of course, especially given the current weakness of the rotation/backup options in that area of the squad.

I think he can play the Blind role. If not he can swap with Herrera alongside Di Maria and have Blind as cover since he is more of a box to box like Herrera.

We'll probably drop 30 on him, which is fair given that he probably wants to come and is coming off a serious injury.

Roma can go and... themselves.

10M in january (we dont really know how is he gonna come back)
25M in the summer (Only if he is back to his level and injury free)

that's fair dealio.

Anything over that, thank Fellaini.

if we go after him in summer there might be some new players fitting into our "philoshophy" so we shouldn't be much sad not getting him for ridiculous price of 45m. He will be worth +-30m after the injury..

fecking crazy they are. 46m? laughable. We wont go over 30-35m. We arent that desperate now i guess.

I think Blind may surprise a few in the Evra, Vidic mold - relatively less expensive signing who came in a bit under the radar and went on to have impressive careers, and were important anchors during our CL runs. Him and Strootman would be immense for the better part of the next decade imo.

I think the midfield 4 of blind herrera di maria and mata could surprise allot of people this season, I think perhaps we are lacking depth to cover these 4, as carrick is not available until november fitness wise to cover blind, and we only have janazaj and anderson to come in for either of di maria and herrera, so depth wise we could have a problem. I think next season we should have more strength in depth to cover blind, herrera, di maria and mata.

They can go and do one as far as I'm concerned, we aren't going a penny over £35m and that's being generous. If we got forty six mill why not add ten to fifteen million more and go for Koke?

The Mirror reckon Roma want £46M for him but we only want to pay £25M.

£46M a bit much, £30+- is a fair deal especially considering he's coming back from injury. Add Fellaini to sweeten the deal if we must, I wouldn't shed any tears if we paid £30 + Fellaini.
I seriously hope we do get him. Didn't Roma want something £40M+ for Benatia and ended up selling him for £25M to Bayern? I expect the same thing to happen here.

I've watched this YouTube video of him today, had time to kill (46 mins long). I've watched him for the last 3 seasons and the more I watch him the more I want him here, he's exactly what we need.

King Muppet signings would be Vidal/Pogba and Reus/Ronaldo but in my opinion adding Strootman and Cuadrado would be equally as good.
Just imagine

Herrera......Strootman
Mata
Di Maria...............................Cuadrado
Falcao
 I'm going to clean my underwear.....

Can't say I am that bothered about Cuadrado, not sure we really need him either and I like Di Maria playing as an AM/winger hybrid, but I do think Strootman would add a bit of power and physicality that our midfield is missing.

The next 6 months will be crucial as VG will assess the squad closely, get rid of the deadwood and implement his philosophy. Fletcher, Carrick, Mata, Fellaini and Falcao are the most vulnerable targets. Mata has yet to prove that's he's more then a no 10. Fellaini needs to settle in VG system which is completely different to Moyes and Falcao has to break in the Rooney-RVP tandem and prove that he's worth 45m (the rumored sum of a permanent deal). With Strootman and Ronaldo rumored to want to come at United the present side need to step up or else they risk to be sold.

-------------Herrera-------Strootman/Blind---------------

Ronaldo/Januzaj--------------Rooney-----------------Di Maria---

--------------------- ----------Falcao/RVP ----------------------

I'm really not keen on him - we can get Khedira at a very low fee or free next summer.

30m plus Fellaini (plus the offloading of his wages) would seem like a good deal for all parties.

I am sure about that. However once you go past that midfield you end up with the likes of Fletcher, Ando, Carrick (nearly 34) and the long ball specialist. None of them come even close to top EPL level. VG will make sure to add quality and competition to the side to avoid complacency.

Are there good young midfield players in the united academy who might be ready in 6-12 months?

I think there are. Whether they can fit in vg philosophy or ready remain in question.

I believe that VG will remove the concept of squad players in favor of players who can seriously compete for a first team role and would keep the first teamers on their toes. That may make it harder for kids to break in. Every minute will have to count for them and every loan must be taken seriously.

If van Gaal's philosophy, goes right through United from the bottom up, they might have a decent chance of fitting in, but Strootman will probably be a United player by the start of next season at the latest.

Me neither. Not sure what the fuss is about. Good player but nothing more than a fit Darren IMO...

No suprises about the ridiculous prices(relatively) being bandied about. Roma said they'll be cnuts about this.

They will and its quite understandable. The Serie A is becoming a bit of a one horse race with Juventus being the only club capable of spending some real money. 45m will do a great deal in putting Roma back on track. I often wonder what kept Moyes from getting the likes of Herrera, Benatia and Strootman. There were plenty of value moving around during that summer. Its quite a shame we weren't interested in them.

Quite obviously a negotiating tactic. What else is he supposed to publicly say?
Probably

Should they qualify for the next cl stage though i could see them resisting any bids till the summer.

Mind you in the summer pogba will be close to the end of his contract, gundogan should be fit and in the last year or two of his contract and potentially sporting might want to sort out a deal for Nani involving carvahllo so perhaps we will be able to get a better deal (and hopefully be able to offer cl football) in the summer.

Personally I'd prefer pogba but any of the four would be great
