Jan is the time to go in heavy for Reus. I think we might just try as well as he'll be just choosing between 7-8 teams come the summer who have all just bit his release clause.....
Would Dortmund sell though? I don't believe they will.

for those who watched him regularly, then how good is this strootman actually? who would you likened him with the most, i mean in terms of quality and playing style.
in a very simplistic comparison, he's in the mold of a roy keane. box to box central midifielder with a high workrate and above average passive qualities. can score, has a good long shot on him, and he Oozes authority, he's a born leader absolute captain material. im not saying he's as good as keane btw.

Do they want the risk of him walking down to Bayern? that would be crushing. not that i think we can land him, but its a genuine question if they can get more than his release clause and avoid him going to a direct rival.

40 minute vid of his season at Roma, as definitive as it gets if you're interested in getting to grips with his talents.

Definitely would be an excellent addition, really does come down to how he recovers from the knee injury.

He's very dynamic, carries the ball well, and plays long, first-time passes to Gervinho without looking up. Actually, Gervinho looks a good player in this video.

I still don't get why Roma would have any reason to sell him January rather than just wait for June?

yeah I thought the same, I actually thought it was video about Gervinho..

Gervinho is the type of forward who would excel in a 3-5-2, because he can stretch the play and run at players.

yeah I always thought he is kinda like welbeck posses speed some tricks but cant finish. Welbeck would be perfect tbh but lets replace him with falcao just bcs he is available. I think di Maria would be also great there as well as Wilson when talking about available players.. Januzaj another option.

Maybe Blind and Herrera will form such a great partnership in midfield that we won't need Strootman by January.

we will still be over him, if not in January, then in the summer. Maybe we will sell Fellaini in January and go for him to give us another boost for the rest of the season.

Yeah, I agree, we will still be short in midfield. I don't see Carrick or Fletcher playing much part for long.

For those of you that watch him regularly, whats he like in a physical sense? Is the kind of player that will really put his foot in and stop the likes of Toure just bulldozing their way through our midfield? Or is he more of a Carrick type midfielder i.e less reliant of physicality, but has very good positioning and makes lots of interceptions.

He is a box to box midfielder . He reminds me at van Bommel , physical strong .

Obviously not quite what you were asking for but here's a vid of his season at Roma to give you some idea.

nice. from the video he looks absolutely can do everything. can pass, can tackle, good work rate, got a cracking goal in him as well.

i honestly think there is nobody as good as our old keano these days but if strootman can be at least just over the half of a player keane was, then we have a top class player here. just hoping the injury he suffered does not feck his leg or knee or something. i'm pretty sure when he is fit and playing LVG will make a call for him.

Am I the only one thats just watched this video and thought 'fecking hell we need to sign this lad'?

Take your Vidal's and your Fabreagas' and shove em up your ass. Kev is the man

Thats what we like to hear. We need some of that back in the team. A few cnuts would do nicely.

They may figure they can milk more euros from us in January. That's the only reason I can think of.

He actually isn't half as bad as he looked at Arsenal - the right player in the right system etc.
And he was immense last season in serie A

Yep.If Roma are out of the CL by January(They've got Bayren & City in their group)and if we are challenging for the league title then January's going to be the best time to take us to the cleaners.

Still we have no idea how Strootman will recover from his injury.

Obviously LVG coming in will have changed things but based on Strootman's performances for Roma last season it's hard to imagine why we weren't in for him at that price. He'll cost us at least twice the price now if we go for him.

He wasn't EPL proven!!

Seriously they were plenty in here who agreed with Moyes thoughts back then. The Dutch league is pretty underrated in Britain and the same comments regarding Strootman back then were repeated once again on Blind.

I must admit when we were linked with him last summer I didn't want him.

I'd only seen him very rarely (mainly for Dutch U21) but he never stood out for me, seemed extremely passive and not what we needed.

He's clearly been absolutely brilliant for Roma and LVG was gutted that he got injured for the WC. If we get him and he's brilliant then I'll be pleased as punch to be proven room from my initial views.

He's a mixture of both, intelligent and much tougher in the tackle than a Carrick.. he's more prepared to go to ground. He's a more imaginative passer than Carrick and tons better on the ball in terms of dribbling and protecting it under pressure. He also has a lethal shot from long distance and is a solid penalty taker.

Only issue is that he is more box to box than Carrick, so whilst he would complement Herrera... it is arguable that they both would need still need someone defensive alongside them. Strootman is definitely the better player defensively, Herrera is not good at tackling in my opinion.

The amount of times he released Gervinho 1v1 in that video....I assume he went on to fluff all those chances.

If Roma are involved in a push for the title they probably won't be looking to sell him in January.

If strootman recovers, why would they put in so much hard work getting him physically ready? but sell him to someone else, so that club could enjoy the fruits of their labour. That is what makes the transfer a non starter in January, if united wanted strootman, they should have bought him now, and take the hit of the injury

I think some underestimate how difficult this signing may be. I doubt Strootman is much more obtainable than Vidal.

Roma sold Benatia, a key player in defence for a fair price. They seem reluctant to sell in the beginning, but when you make a bid, they practically always sell, especially when the player wants to leave. They have enough players in his position too. So i think if we put in a decent bid for him and he wants out, he will be a United player. With Vidal, we never knew how desperate he was to leave. It seems like he wanted the move, but was happy enough to stay.

He will be fantastic for us. Great foil for the likes of Di Maria and Mata and amazing service for the likes of RvP and Falcao.

Is it at all possible that blind could prove to be better than Strootman..? I don't see why not.

I think Blind may surprise a few in the Evra, Vidic mold - relatively less expensive signing who came in a bit under the radar and went on to have impressive careers, and were important anchors during our CL runs. Him and Strootman would be immense for the better part of the next decade imo.
