If he regains his fitness, I think it's an absolute certainty that we're going to sign him eventually, to be honest.

Yeah, Van Gaal seems to rate him highly and he plays in a position in which we are weak. It's one of those deals that you just know are going to happen.

Great to know we pretty much have a top midfielder on his way in January. A refreshing change from biting your finger nails praying we have a target for that area. Could see this deal getting done straight away.

To be fair that team is more then good enough, individual wise, to win the champions league even. Especially with the depth we have. Getting them all settling in and playing well is the only question but on paper it's as good of a front 6 as anyone has pretty much.

I like the stability Blind/Carrick would bring to the team especially defensively considering we would be playing a couple of center backs who are both impulsive in going for the tackle rather than read the play. I'd rather move Rooney out and play Herrera as the furthest forward in a 3 man midfield. Imagine him feeding through balls to Di Maria, Januzaz and Falcao to get on the end of. That'd be lovely.

Adnan Falcao DiMaria
Herrera Strootman
Blind
Shaw Rojo Jones Rafael
DDG

said the second van gaal was appointed strootman was a lock. and before people question roma not wanting to sell, they sold their most important player this summer for a pittance. 30m would do it easy as well as them being out of the champions league due to their group being horrific.

Can't believe he's only 24. Judging by his face he looks like he's been 24 for at least 15 years.

Rooney Falcao Di Maria
Mata
Herrera Strootman
Shaw Rojo Jones Rafael
Big dave
Benefit of this lineup/system: Rooney can cut inside on his right peg for shots, and he's able to assist from the left like he did vs italy.
Allows mata the space to create from the centre in his best position.
Di maria can do whatever the feck he wants on the right, such as his destruction of germany at the weekend.
a combative Midfield of Strootman and Herrera is incredibly balanced as they are both able to defend and attack in equal measure in box to box roles. i dont believe we need a total defensive midfielder as they are both good in the tackle and the workrate both of them provides shields the defence.
Shaw, Rojo Jones and Rafael is a Ridiculously Athletic young back 4 with bags of pace, only negative being a lack of real top end experience, trial by fire i say! All of them bar rafael are defensively excellent in 1 on 1's if the midfield in bypassed on the counter, Rafael is also helped by Di Maria and his excellent workrate.

Rooney is Changable with januzaj, and you can bring on Rvp if falcao is unable to find service in the box. Blind is capable cover for any of the central midfielder pairing and also luke shaw.

I'd replace Reus with Januzaj.

for those who watched him regularly, then how good is this strootman actually? who would you likened him with the most, i mean in terms of quality and playing style.

Is there any reason why we are waiting to get him in January instead? Wouldn't it be better for us to have just bought him now and get him over while we handle his recovery. He could start training with our team earlier and start playing for us as soon as he's fit.

Too risky, no telling if he'll be the same player as before.

ACL injuries are not the end of the world these days. His speed may not even be hugely compromised (although it may take about 12 months to get back to top speed). Its mostly quick stops and pivots that may bring up lingering effects

It still makes more sense to buy him in January. He'll be slightly cheaper because he'll be on a slightly shorter contract and we get to assess his recovery.

The discount for a shorter contract would hardly matter considering the premium for transfers in January, we'll arguably get a cheaper price now since he's still injured.

Obviously not quite what you were asking for but here's a vid of his season at Roma to give you some idea.

I would agree with you when it comes to almost every player, but he's coming back from a bad injury so United wouldn't come off as desperate and he's definitely not a must buy due to that injury. A big factor is also United's position on the table as a team in bad form always loses a bit of leverage.

Would expect us to sign him January I'd expect it would be more summer window. On the plus point most opinions (mine included) were we were miles of Chelsea and City team and squad wise but with recent additions (and I know not everyone will be a success) once they have bedded in we really are a force to be reckoned with. Look at the amount of blue chip players we have DDG DI Maria Rooney Mata RVP Falcao plus potentially blue chip ones in Shaw Herrera Rafael Smalling Jones AJ Blind Rojo we really have gotten our act together well done Ed and LVG.

Signing Strootman would be the icing on the cake. I Still feel we are a midfielder short of a title winning team and Strootman fits the bill. With this signing it would give us no end of options both tactually and in terms of the starting XI, 3-5-2, 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 are all options for us now.

40 minute vid of his season at Roma, as definitive as it gets if you're interested in getting to grips with his talents.

Definitely would be an excellent addition, really does come down to how he recovers from the knee injury.

He's going to be all the talk from now until January.

That video is a commitment.

Whether it's in January or summer, this is definitely going to happen! LVG loves him and we've needed a player like him for a long while.

He'd be the perfect player if we go 433.

Three midfielders.

Ball Winner
Box to Box - Playmaker

Carrick/Blind
Strootman/Herrera - Mata/Herrera

He was brilliant last season at Roma, but mind you, he was playing with De Rossi (top 3 in the world on his position imo) and Pjanic (very talented), talking about a perfect midfield three. The combination of De Rossi, Strootman and Pjanic was just  Roma had one perfectly balanced midfield.

Season before that at PSV he played with Van Bommel and and most leading Dutch football 'experts' were doubting if Strootman was ready to make the next step.

Obviously he would be a great addition to our squad and it looks very likely to happen. However, like with Herrera, I don't know if Strootman will ever become top 3 or top 5 players in the world on his position. So in that regard, I actually think we should be aiming a bit higher. Look at City, with Yaya scoring 20 goals in a box to box role, or Modric or Schweinsteiger, all different players, but they are top 3 in the world on their position when in form. I think we should be aiming for the same and I'm not quite sure Strootman is up to that. But you could have said the same about Carrick when he joined us years ago, and he's had some brilliant seasons for us.

if we stick to 3-5-2 then we can play Strootman alongside Herrera, and dimaria in front of them. Which in first view looks a bit imbalanced in the end can be just powerhouse... all three capable palying box to box roles. Dimaria would be used as most advanced as the two would take turns in who would stay and who would go forward.. when we have this midfield I have no doubt we will win midfield battle almost over anybody. Blind is cover before the right midfielders like strootman come in. Hopefully he will recover well and if he lose some of his movement we can use him as 6, replacement for carrick, he is intelligent palyer with pass in him and looks quite similar in that position..

Jan is the time to go in heavy for Reus. I think we might just try as well as he'll be just choosing between 7-8 teams come the summer who have all just bit his release clause.....
